I'm back on The Sims 3 and I couldn't be happier

sketchessketches Posts: 274 Member
I don't even have all the expansions. And I have cars and bikes, and I take a taxi to go on vacation.

I completely forgot about the Opportunities tab. But oh boy, it enriches the game x1,000,000.

The only weird, unnerving thing for me is the dark lighting. How do you fix it? I downloaded a lighting mod, but it doesn't appear to help. Maybe I didn't install it correctly.

The Sims 4 looks beautiful, and I'm used to those looks, but The Sims 3 has SO VERY much incredible, well-written, engaging, smile-inducing, fulfilling gameplay, that I haven't even thought about B/B mode yet. The most gameplay I had in The Sims 4 was build/buy. Bleh.

The lifetime aspirations actually seem to take a lifetime to fulfill. And each opportunity is so creatively written — they didn't skimp on their verbiage.

Also, how do you get free SimPoints in 2020?

Edit: Please move this thread to The Sims 3 General Discussion. I misread the forum title, and missed the word "Store." Sorry! Thanks!

You mean the lighting mod from this site: https://brntwaffles.tumblr.com/. I have one too (for Midnight Hollow) but not yet installed. I assume you unwrap the download and install the package in My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages. How did you install it? Maybe you need to try a different lighting mod from that site to get the effect you desire. Also, I think this tutorial might come in handy when playing around with such mods: https://sigmundsims.tumblr.com/post/76859558609/multiple-lighting-mods-tutorial

No video's to click anymore and by now we all cashed in our free SimPoints when we registered our games. You could enter the scavenger hunt hosted by @ErnesaT. Each round you can win SP which you can either spent right away or stack so you can save up for something more expansive.

The contest is already running for a while and I don't know how long it will run but now it's running and you could enter. I got so many stuff because of this contest (in this post I list my winnings, in case you're curious. Among other things I won two worlds). It's only to bad the DD discount deals do not count when somebody gifts you and the way you win is by ErnesaT gifting you the items you request for the amount of SP you have won so far. It's a fun contest.

I created a Mods folder, and inside that, created an Overrides folder and Packages folder, and I put in the package file inside the Packages folder. Then, I found a Resource.cfg online from ModTheSims, from a Google search: https://modthesims.info/t/424043 and placed it right in the Mods folder. This is the lighting mod I used: https://brntwaffles.tumblr.com/post/88207076442/inspired-by-the-lighting-in-the-film-frozen-i

I followed this YouTube video for the installation steps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjMJKYDSjE

Thank you for all the info, @SimLibby ! I hope you have a great day.

That sounds right. I assume you placed the Mods folder, with everything in it, in your Documents (and not in the installation directory). For future reference, you could also download the framework setup (which includes all the files/folders you mention including the nointro.package* and NoBuildSparkles.package*) and keep it somewhere as a backup (in case of a reinstallation of TS3 for example): https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Installing_Sims_3_Package_Files/Setup_and_Files

    * those packages can be used to see if you setup everything as it should (or you delete them if you don't care for what they do). See the paragraph 'Test' in the previous link.

I cannot watch the video. Is says 'video unavailable'.

Maybe try a different lighting mod to see if that gives the results you want. Or maybe play around with the brightness and such of your computer screen.

My evening has just began. I hope you have a great day/evening as well.

Nope! Haha. The video says to create Mods folder under Program Files > Origin Games > The Sims 3. Ha! That's probably what's going on, then.

Thank you! I will look into this later today.

You have been a major help!

I don't play the digital version (I play from DVD) but that's the default installation folder when installing the digital version, right? The full path where you should place the mods folder is: My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\.
