hey all i'm looking for ts3 lighting mods. right now, i'm using Environment Lighting Tweaks and i really like it but i'd like to see if there are other lighting mods out there for ts3.
please feel free to share any lighting mods that you use!
I'm so used to the consistent brightness in The Sims 4.... Everything is so dark in The Sims 3. The shadows are very contrasting to the light, and I can't see the ground outside at night. It's very dark compared to TS4.

I'm interested to know which mod you ended up choosing @ohmyohmy? I'm using brntwaffles Frozen mod and I love how saturated everything is but I'm also new to modding the game in this way and super interested in seeing everybody's different choices/what they think.
In TS4 I use reshade to to make things more colourful and bright. I've been wondering if it works with TS3 as well. Anybody know?
reShade is like a filter more than anything but yes, you can use it with Sims 3. I have a love-hate relationship with it since it can tank game performance depending on the version, settings used, + game.

heya @dreamyari, i didn't pick one. i went back to the default lighting because i like how it looks in certain worlds like bridgeport and moonlight falls.
@Sharonia, with my Apocalypse save, I use Brntwaffles Dystopian Lighting mod and as far as I've seen, all the weather patterns remain unchanged. It rains, snows...gets windy and all that type of fun stuff. So I'm sure that most of the lighting mods are unaffected as far as weather.
Always "River McIrish" ...and maybe some Bebe Hart. ~innocent expression~

That's good to know. I think about trying a lighting mod just to brighten things up a little.
Lighting mods do not change the normal patterns of game weather but one lighting mod will effect all your worlds skies so I have several different ones and change them when I want a certain look in a certain world. You can also add a cloud mod, plus stars and moon mods alongside any lighting mod which enhances sky effects even more.
I use these clouds, starfield and moon, and they're fantastic, definitely recommend.
Speaking of lighting mods, @Ziristha I noticed a few lovely lit shots of yours in a thread the other day; are you using a lighting mod? Which one is it? Your game looks bright and gorgeous

You are welcome. My advice to you is if you know you are going to use a cloud, stars and moon mod is to choose those first and add them to your game because if you like the effect you never need remove those mod files again regardless of what world you are playing in. Next take a little time to play around with the various lighting mods and choose several that you would like to keep placing them in folder with the world name you would like to use them with then all you have to do is change the sky mods whenever you change the world you are playing in. I love being able to see various sky changes in my worlds but it took me a while to decide which ones I wanted to use permanently..
I must be doing something right if @pary is using the same combo as me (or perhaps it was the other way around-) who knows

I'm playing in Sunset Valley with my family. Will any lighting mod look okay there?
@Pary Hi! I'm assuming you're referring to my recent pics in the I still love scenery thread, yes? if that's the case, I wish I could be 100% sure of my answer, you see, around the time I took some of those screenshots I was testing Perfect Day and Frozen, I don't remember if both with RH water or IP water, but at the end I favored more Perfect Day for that specific game folder and left it installed.
I tried to take some quick screenshots again to make sure, but you know how random the lighting can be, no day looks the same
So here are some pictures of Frozen with RH water
And here are some with Perfect Day with IP water (this is the installed version)
And I know for a fact that this two pics were took with this lighting mod before today
All of them are around the same hours of the day in Barnacle Bay with Nilxis realistic clouds
Thank you so much for going to all that trouble, I appreciate that It was, in particular, this picture or one like it, that really caught my eye in the other thread, I thought it was incredibly lovely,
I might take a look at that mod myself. I like different lighting for different worlds or moods.
your pictures are beautiful and I recognized perfect day immediately as I have used/use it myself with several different world water color variants of it in my own worlds because it's just so fresh and clean looking (if that makes sense-) and it does not overwhelm the sky with any really deep looking colors. Thank you for taking the time to post your pics
I haven't played in sunset valley for a long time so I cannot personally recommend any lighting mods for the world however if you take a look at page 4 from the link I posted earlier in this thread of various player tests of lighting mods they use and scroll down to petalbot's post you can see a pic tests between Buhudain's v5.655 GOLD, Brntwaffles St. Clair, Perfect Day and Dream Dimension sky mods in sunset valley in pictures posted at various time frames throughout the day so you can clearly see the comparisons. I think the sky mods used look nice and maybe as the pictures are taken in sunset valley you might be able to choose something to try out as a first try?
Buhudain's v5.655 gold sky mod on following link there is further information and more pics to look at. Also just a heads up some of the cc on this site is considered a d u l t so you will have to agree to that before clicking into the site. I just downloaded the mod again through the mega download link and it downloaded fine.
Brntwaffles perfect day (choose whichever world water from various worlds you would like to try with the mod) as shown/described by @Ziristha in the above post in the pics posted.
on the same link as above just below the blue skies and sunshine mod after it states a request by JettSchae in the following paragraph you will see the Downloads listed for St. Claire’s weather lighting mod again with different world water choices.
dream dimension sky mod is on page 2 scroll down and you will see further pics and water variants to choose from.
All the mods on the Brntwaffles site downloaded fine for me.
If you are wondering about choosing a sky mod with water choices it just means you can use the same sky mod but choose the water color you would like to go with it based on different sims 3 worlds.
I hope you manage to find something you like then you can come back and post some pics as we all like looking at those
@Pary you're most welcome! it wasn't trouble at all, I just felt the need to clarify since I didn't like the idea of being vague and unsure when it came to mods that might be installed on someone elses game . I too, use different lighting mods for different saves, sometimes I go with EA default lighting, specially with the worlds that came after Bridgeport, of course I always left installed the clouds, moon and star field replacements
@SPARKY1922 Thank you! honestly I really like Perfect Day for the same reasons you mentioned, I believe I played with that lighting mod installed the most, it really makes everything prettier and brighter without overwhelming the overall feel of the world... well unless you're playing in Midnight Hollow, but that's the odd one out of the bunch
it is one of my favorites as it looks good in almost any world and as far as Midnight hollow is concerned I use another specific lighting mod for that world that looks awesome
Do the lighting mods alter how time works? I’m currently playing with the burntwaffles perfect day lighting mod and it seems to give me more daylight which I like a lot. Without the mod it seems to go dark really early like around 6.30pm ish but with the mod it can still be kind of light even at 9pm.

I like the following star mod as the stars are smaller than most star mods found out there..

I like this moon but there are some fantastic fantasy moon mods out there as well if you enjoy that kind of game-play..

There is also an all in one mod that changes everything in game in one mod:
Sky Mod replaces:
-Sun
-Sun halo
-Moon halo
-Clouds
-Rainbow
-Stars
