Notes: My eyes were definitely hurting on this one. lol Thank you for such a challenging shell. I ended up breaking down almost all of the walls and re-starting from scratch. In addition to the two kids' rooms, I also added a playroom since the bedrooms were so small. There is also lots of play equipment outside, including a pool and swings. These grandparents are definitely dedicated to their grandchildren!

This one looks like fun! I have a couple questions though @nali272
Are there any load bearing walls in this house that can not be removed? Can I plant more plants in the desert garden? And is the $65,000 total gallery cost or the money that Finn and Anne are giving us for renovations?
  • nali272nali272 Posts: 431 Member
@AlJay, no load-bearing walls, yes to more plants, the money for the reno. Hope you have fun.

Can we give the outside a fresher Look ?
Can we change the mail box too ?
Also do we have to use the same lot you did ?

Notes: If your eyes weren't hurting before they probably will after this lol. I stuck with the weird abstract look for a lot of the rooms, hope I pulled it off. For the kids room I thought about what I always wanted when my cousins and I stayed at my grandparents and we always stayed in the same rooms together so I wanted to make a room where they all could sleep but still have their own spaces. I meant to make it summer time and place it on a different lot before taking pics...

@icanhassims - Wonderful redesign of the floorplan and yard, the side yard flower bed is better then what was there. The grandchildren will love spending time here. Good-looking dining area for the family and the kitchen is still big with that reconfiguration! The color scheme is soothing and pairs very well together. All the grandchildren will fit nicely into the 2 guest rooms. I like how the sconces and matching light in the master lean into the mid-century modern style. The playroom is awesome. The family will enjoy the addition of the pool. Thank you for participating.

@Clousinators - The new blue exterior is a lovely backdrop to the landscaping additions, which are great, loving how the carport roof matches the house roof, the upgrade to the vehicle is a nice touch, the change to patio roof will now allow for sitting outside without getting wet. The family will enjoy all of the outdoor activities. I wish I could live in that living room! Nice combination of the foyer and hall. Wonderful redesign of the kitchen and dining space. I will be using that dress drawer in the master bedroom in the future. The sleeping quarters for the grandkids is an interesting concept, Rooms without being rooms…nice way to keep an eye on them ;). Thank you for participating.

Notes: With this remodel I basically just pressure washed the exterior to brighten it up and did a ton of landscaping, adding a pathway type trail through the back yard. The interior on the other hand was a total gut job. I used rich browns and reds throughout the house as a color scheme. I made three bedrooms for the children, one of which is a nursery but can be changed into a child's bedroom as the youngest grows up. I increased the master bathroom size, furnished the sitting area outside the front door and gave them an office to enjoy as well.

Details: Mid-Century Modern: Changed the outside façade of the home & roof. Changed the Mailbox. Changed the walk way & drive way texture. Redesigned the floor plan. Added to the desert garden at the front of the house. Enlarged the master bathroom. Created enough beds to accommodate the 5 grandkids (2B/3G). Created a sitting space in front of the area opposite the desert garden so they can view the fountain. Went somewhat over budget implementing children's activities through out the home, inside & out.
I went out of the way to try to recreate the Retro- Mid~Century style through out the house . This was so much fun for me !

@Pinkusfamily, Great spin on modernizing a mid-century modern exterior… that stone sidewalk to the front door - thumbs up! The window placements in the kitchen are awesome. Opening up the patio with the slants to allow more breeze - great idea; sitting out there in the evenings will be lovely. Fencing off the backyard to help contain the grandkids another awesome idea. What a beautiful oasis, green grass, and some palm trees (my favorite). The vita sail shade is something I have never used before… (filing that way for use). Wonderful use of it over the hot tube! The backyard is beautifully designed for outdoor entertaining, the whole family will love it. Nice to have a door to the backyard off the Kitchen. Great desert landscaping. Extending the modernization into the interior is even better. Making the living room the central hub of the house is a marvelous idea. That fireplace is awesome. The grandkids will love their rooms, lots of items to entertain them indoors. The master bedroom is magnificent. They will enjoy the TV and sitting space. Thank you for participating.

@AlJay, The landscaping is so much better than mine! Funny that all it took was some power washing to change the color…lol. Using that wall from debug that matches the column windows… I mean duh?! Why didn't I think of that? It seems they had a vehicle upgrade too…lol. what a wonderful idea to put the gaming table on the patio off the kitchen and giving it access. The entertaining space of the backyard is just ideal. The sitting area off the front door, looking at the desert garden is perfect. Duplicating the flowerbox at the front is great for symmetry. The pavers in place of the original sidewalk is another great idea. The chocolate-colored kitchen, living, and dining rooms was an interesting surprise, I would not have thought it worked but it does! The master suite is beautifully designed and gives off a relaxing sensation. Loving the office off the back patio. With 5 grandkids, the Lytle's thank you for the laundry room!! Adorable toddler/baby room. That boys' room tickled me pink with the clutter on the floor…lol. Hours of entertainment in the girls' room for all of their imagination. Thank you for participating.

    The Hubbard Briefing:

Background - The Hubbard men are 4 generations strong and love the feeling when they go to the family's mountain
Châtel. So much so, they packed up the wives, the youngest Hubbard, Tristen, and moved in permanently. Due to termites, the interior had to be gutted and they need it to feel like home instead of an indoor campground.

Gallery Lot ID: RMHHubbard BUDGET: $70,000 Lot size: 40x30 Floorplan: 2 story 0bd 0ba Lot/World I used: Avarice Acres, Newcrest

    Gallery Link: Here

    Exterior style: Mountain Chalet
You can resize the exterior walls, as long as it does not modify the sunken living room. If you can make the stairs better go for it.

Interior style: Mountain or rustic Châtel
Do not modify the living room walls (may change the color), sunken floor (may change the color), or fireplace. Any removed walls or trash do not count toward your budget. Any appliances and furniture do count towards the budget.

    Landscape Style:
    Mountain.

Issues to resolve / things to know: (MOO is on)
    • Create beds room to accommodate 3 couples and one child.
    • Create 2.5 bathrooms
    • Make the sunken living room cozier with furniture.
    • Wire the house for lighting or make it eco-friendly to sustain the off the grid living.
    • Tristen is into scouting.
    • Matriarch Hubbard is into knitting and would like a place to do that.
    • Patriarch Hubbard is into outdoor games.
    • if possible create an office space for the working/schooling folks; 2 desks.

    Notes:
The first thing I noticed was how dark it seemed in the home. While it was beautiful thematically, in my version of the Hubbards' lives, they wanted a brighter living environment. So I first re-finished all the walls, stairs, windows, doors, banister, and beams. Then I replaced the hardwood floors with something a little more updated (using sustainably harvested wood of course). I also power-washed the outside of the building to bring off grime and reveal slightly lighter wood and stone (including the stone walkway and stairs). I also removed some overgrowth on the side of the house in order to make room for a game of horseshoes for Patriarch Hubbard. I decided to add sheer curtains for some privacy while still allowing the natural beauty in through the windows, as well as a fire pit in front of the house along with a little more foliage. In addition, I added some solar panels to charge one laptop and everyone's cell phones, but otherwise kept everything else off-grid

@icanhassims - wow, how do you redesign so fast? :DB) Adding the entertainment space at the front of the house is a great idea with horseshoes on the side the family will have hours of fun. The lighting is wonderful, it really brightened ups the place. The color scheme really warms the spaces. There is enough room in the kitchen for the family to have meals together and adding the gaming table inside is awesome for indoor play. The furniture choices in the sunken living room create an even cozier atmosphere. Tristen thanks you for the art table and the scout room. Madelynn will enjoy her knitting corner. And the remote workers will appreciate the computer station. The family will love the years they live in this house. Thank you for participating.

@nali272 it's a combination of having literally nothing else to do and too many hours to admit building in the sims. lol

Thank you for the lovely review! The outside doesn't look quite as beautiful as your original, but I definitely focused on lightening up the whole build and am pretty happy with that result.
