Sims come to my house with food after death??

I had a sim die yesterday of old age. I may have made him die by use of Master Controller but that is neither here not there! 
...Anyway, after a few sim hours I got a popup about how bad this sim felt about my loss. A few sims brought a dish of food over and there was an event called "loss of loved one" or something which I can't remember exact text at all. Is this new?? I've never had someone mention this at all! It happened in Sulani if that matters!
