When do you think The Sims 5 will be released?

It’s safe to assume The Sims 5 is already in development with a small team at the moment led by SimGuruGrant It’s obviously not coming this year but I think we’ll get an announcement next August with a September 2022 release?
Your predictions?

They tend to announce the next title 12-15 months before release. We’ll finish 2020 with 9 (maybe 10 expansions). I expect it to have no more than 12/13 so I think we’re approaching the end, more experimental phase of Sims 4 gearing up for the next title

Everyone repeats that line about “3 years left of more content” on a daily basis but I’m pretty sure that was said in 2018? Which kinda matches up with the 2021-2023 theory. I can’t see Sims 4 extending to 2024 that would be 10 years which is wild!

When ts4 lite ts5 rolls out, I'll be hyped to see dude bro what's-his-face's menacing tweet threatening us that there'll be no ts6 if we the consumers don't make ts5 successful.

And we'll just point and laugh at him while we play Paralives and Paradox Tectonic's life sim game. They can't abuse us take us for Granted anymore.

I'm thinking 2022, but it could be at late as 2023. Definitely not 2020 and probably not 2021 either.
It's kind of sad that I have to point out that anything I say is only just my opinion and may be a different one from someone else.

I kinda think at this point they're going for 10 years. Our "10 year" anniversary gift will be the trailer for Sims 5...

They will need to hype TS5 really bad to sell it to current simmers. Many people still feel like the game is incomplete, and with enough room for improvement even after all these years. As basegames are usually quite basic, they will need to find a really strong selling point. For TS2 is was the 3D, for TS3 the open neighbourhood and CAST, for TS4 it was, I think, the emotions but I could be mistaken.

2021 and 2022 are off topic

    They won't announce TS5 in 2020.
1 year is required between the last pack and the new basegame.

Maxis said thousand times TS4 is not over, they have ideas for years.

I am going with 2024. Even if they started Sims 5 production, it is probably slowed way down since the virus. It would be easier to maintain what they have already.

Also Sims 4 base game was pretty pricey when it was released. I cannot imagine the price of Sims 5 and some people are pretty broke due to the pandemic. People may have like 10 or 20 bucks for a stuff or game pack. $40 expansion might be pushing it but a 60 or more dollar base game when they already have something to play. I don't think so.

I voted for 2023. I think that The Sims 4 is still gonna last for some few more years. Especially with the new survey, with a lot of potential things they could still add to the game.

I think 2022 or 2023 it’ll be released. And I personally think it’s being created by the new EA Austin team....

    Survey 2014 -> 2018 Seasons, Get Famous
    Survey 2015 -> 2019 Discover University
Survey 2017 -> 2019 Island Living, Realm of Magic

Survey 2017/2020 (January) -> Still pending (Winter Vacation themed pack)
Survey 2018 -> Still pending (Farm themed pack)

Survey 2020 (April) -> I think something for TS4 could be released in 2022 or 2023

Maxis Austin is working on a brand new IP.

Wouldn’t Sims 5 count as a new IP? Or are IPs only the beginning of a series? I apologize the terms escape me 😣😣

IP = Intellectual property. The Sims for example is an original IP wholly owned by EA. FIFA and Star Wars games meanwhile are licensed IPs, as EA does not own FIFA or Star Wars.

A brand new IP would imply a brand new game that's not part of any existing IPs.

Anthem was a new BioWare IP (Not Mass Effect 5). It could be released in 2 or 4 years.
We can tell Austin won't do The Sims, SimCity, Spore or any existing Sim games.

Maxis Austin isn't probably a part of The Sims Studio, The Firemonkeys or Track Twenty.

    Note about Maxis Austin :

April 2000, EA To Close Down Maxis South (Austin)... August 2019, Maxis is expanding its Studio to EA Austin to develop a new IP !

A Sims 5 trailer showing a fully fleshed out game with real Sims and a beautiful world should have been for the Sims 20th anniversary! :anguished:

But that seems less likely now because they have released another survey. Maybe they are planning to keep going for another three years.

Maybe they will do it for the 25th anniversary (1 quarter century) in... 2025 :p

TS3 was released in 2009, TS4 in 2014; technically we should have TS5 by now...

I think that they just want to keep expanding TS4 for as long as possible to get the most money out of it, which is unhonest in my opinion.

I would love to see The Sims 5 more of a 'for the players' game, rather than 'for the income' game, as it seems to be now. The DLC policy is reasonable, but tends to look more like a way to earn more and more money.

You make the base game boring and uncomplete, then you release pack after pack, expansion after expansion, and those expansions&packs don't add too much, so that you get bored of those after a while too, waiting to buy the next one. My main complaint is about the relation between the quality&quantity of content added and the price of the expansion/pack. Wish they abandoned this strategy, but I know EA will pressure the developers to make more money, rather than better content.

The way things are going it will be for the 100th anniversary! :D

When TS5 finally hits in 2100 people would look back and wonder 'what happened to the series after 2014?' :no_mouth:
