It’s safe to assume The Sims 5 is already in development with a small team at the moment led by SimGuruGrant It’s obviously not coming this year but I think we’ll get an announcement next August with a September 2022 release?
Your predictions?
They tend to announce the next title 12-15 months before release. We’ll finish 2020 with 9 (maybe 10 expansions). I expect it to have no more than 12/13 so I think we’re approaching the end, more experimental phase of Sims 4 gearing up for the next title
Everyone repeats that line about “3 years left of more content” on a daily basis but I’m pretty sure that was said in 2018? Which kinda matches up with the 2021-2023 theory. I can’t see Sims 4 extending to 2024 that would be 10 years which is wild!

And we'll just point and laugh at him while we play Paralives and Paradox Tectonic's life sim game. They can't abuse us take us for Granted anymore.
They will need to hype TS5 really bad to sell it to current simmers. Many people still feel like the game is incomplete, and with enough room for improvement even after all these years. As basegames are usually quite basic, they will need to find a really strong selling point. For TS2 is was the 3D, for TS3 the open neighbourhood and CAST, for TS4 it was, I think, the emotions but I could be mistaken.
They won't announce TS5 in 2020.
1 year is required between the last pack and the new basegame.
Maxis said thousand times TS4 is not over, they have ideas for years.

The Sims 4 General DiscussionAlso Sims 4 base game was pretty pricey when it was released. I cannot imagine the price of Sims 5 and some people are pretty broke due to the pandemic. People may have like 10 or 20 bucks for a stuff or game pack. $40 expansion might be pushing it but a 60 or more dollar base game when they already have something to play. I don't think so.

The Sims 4 General DiscussionMaxis Austin is working on a brand new IP.
Wouldn’t Sims 5 count as a new IP? Or are IPs only the beginning of a series? I apologize the terms escape me 😣😣
IP = Intellectual property. The Sims for example is an original IP wholly owned by EA. FIFA and Star Wars games meanwhile are licensed IPs, as EA does not own FIFA or Star Wars.
A brand new IP would imply a brand new game that's not part of any existing IPs.
Anthem was a new BioWare IP (Not Mass Effect 5). It could be released in 2 or 4 years.
We can tell Austin won't do The Sims, SimCity, Spore or any existing Sim games.
Maxis Austin isn't probably a part of The Sims Studio, The Firemonkeys or Track Twenty.
Note about Maxis Austin :

The Sims 4 General DiscussionA Sims 5 trailer showing a fully fleshed out game with real Sims and a beautiful world should have been for the Sims 20th anniversary!
Maybe they will do it for the 25th anniversary (1 quarter century) in... 2025

The Sims 4 General DiscussionI think that they just want to keep expanding TS4 for as long as possible to get the most money out of it, which is unhonest in my opinion.
I would love to see The Sims 5 more of a 'for the players' game, rather than 'for the income' game, as it seems to be now. The DLC policy is reasonable, but tends to look more like a way to earn more and more money.
You make the base game boring and uncomplete, then you release pack after pack, expansion after expansion, and those expansions&packs don't add too much, so that you get bored of those after a while too, waiting to buy the next one. My main complaint is about the relation between the quality&quantity of content added and the price of the expansion/pack. Wish they abandoned this strategy, but I know EA will pressure the developers to make more money, rather than better content.
The way things are going it will be for the 100th anniversary!
When TS5 finally hits in 2100 people would look back and wonder 'what happened to the series after 2014?'
