Custom patterns and clothing uploads

Hi, It has been years since I played the Sims 3.
I just got a new computer, and I downloaded all of my Sims 3 games again.
What I was wondering is, Do the custom patterns show up on uploads to the exchange?
Back in the day, when ever you uploaded clothing, (with custom patterns), They would not be on the clothing, when you went into CAS, in your game. The pattern would upload separately, and the clothing would upload as a white garment.
I loved making patterns and clothing back then. But when this started happening, It was very discouraging, so, because of that, and computer issues, I quit.
I'd love to start creating again, but not if this is still an issue.
If there are any clothing creators still out there, Or new creators as well, Please respond.
