Is there a limited number of roomates allowed?

Is there a limit to how many roomates a sim can have or does it just depend on the amount of beds? So far I have 6 and 3 controllable sims.(bofriend , girlfriend and child) But I would love to have many more.

Both. There is a limit on how many roommates you can have and it also depends on the number of beds.

For example, if you have 8 controllable Sims, you can get a max of 2 roommates.

Also, double beds count as 1 bed even if you have a married couple sleeping together. So if you have 1 married couple and 2 kids, the game “thinks” you need 4 beds in order to have enough beds. So you would need to add more beds on top of that number to be able to have roommates or else the option to advertise for roommates will be grayed out.
