Do odd jobs from Island Living work?

I can only get the ones where my sim goes off on there their own to actually complete. Any where I need to actually do something(find seashells, cook, take photos) never say completed no matter how many times I do the tasks.
It's disappointing because it's a really cool feature. I'd love to utilize it for university students who can't have regular jobs.
