Can't turn into a Spellcaster

So always delete the townies because I like to use my own, only I didn't really consider that it'd mess up the spellcasting routine lol.
The game assigns my townies the rolls of master spellcasters, and they initate the process by asking for mites, and when I collect them that's all fine until I submit the mites to the spellcasers, the animation works, and then nothing happens.
Anyone else having this trouble? Or am I the only one to jump the gun and delete everything adn ruin my game haha
