Realm of Magic curses

Does anyone know if there's any other way to get rid of curses than a spell, potion or the Hexproof perk?

I read that when you get a curse it's difficult to do anything until you get rid of it. So... if my Sim is just a beginner Witch and she gets a curse it's gonna be almost impossible to get rid of it because she can't do it herself, she's not skilled enough. How is she going to keep leveling up on skills (to learn the spell or potion recipe) if she can't do anything because of the curse?

This almost sounds like a "game over" situation if my Sim gets a curse right at the beginning. :/

pretty sure one of the gurus had said that the curse-removing potion is always available at the potion store

you can probably find one at a shop in Caster's Alley sometimes. plus a lot of the curses seem like they'd only cause interruptions if your sim is constantly around other sims, if they're secluded they could still practice magic until at the level required to create a cure/learn the spell. none of them seem like they'd stop you from learning potions, but there's one that would directly affect the casting of the spell that cures it. so if you got that curse, potion would be the safer choice.

I think you also get curses when your magical charge is getting to a dangerous point and you keep going. So it sounds like slow and steady wins the race in the beginning unless you want the danger of pushing it. I plan on saving frequently also in case I want to backtrack some.

Thanks everyone for the info. I didn't know that the potion can be bought. It's great news. :)

I read about curses on Carl's website and I got worried because there is a list of curses and there is for example a curse called 'curse of uncleansable stench' which makes your Sim "eternally drenched in the smelliest gym sweat constantly" and showering doesn't help. I know from experience that when Sims have their hygiene on red they refuse to do almost anything (options are greyed out because Sim is too uncomfortable). That would basically immobilise my Sim.

During the lifestream, gurus told that one of the ways to get rid of a curse is to ask one of the sages for a rite, that takes back your sim's magical abilities. Though after that the sim will have a cooldown to become a spellcaster again. But if you catch some really nasty curse and there is no potion available, it may be the solution.

There are various curses and they all work differently. You may even want some of them for certain characters, so removing them is optional. Some of them cause reoccurring moodlets or effects like hysterical laughter or repulsive appearance, while others effect power or success chance etc.

Here are the ones I encountered so far:

The Curse of Repulsiveness gives 3hr moodlets. While the moodlet is in effect the sim is green and warty, other sims react in shock/horror and socialising is therefore difficult. Your sim is normal between the moodlets.

The Curse of Infectious Laughter queues non-cancel actions where the sim runs through various laughter animations/tracks, any nearby sims may also start laughing along with them. In between this happening, your sim is normal.

It's the perk resetting potion that is always available.

darn, i was hoping the sim would permanently stay that way until cured :p i was going to have a “hag” in a hidden cottage that couldn’t socialize with the world because of the curse and just had a ton of animals as friends.

still figuring out how curses work, but a tip, I managed to get a curse for, my sims, BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE CURSE OF UNCONTROLLABLE CHARGE, if you use magic your sims can die from overwhelming magic, if you get this curse, make sure your familiar is right by your side, otherwise your sims will die, thankfully my sims familiar was out and she now has the escaped death moodlet

My sim got cursed with the uncleansing because of the cauldron when the brew went bad. Anyway I found another way to cure curses. If you have 500 or more satisfaction points yo can buy cures in the rewards panel.
