Does it Bother You That Magic is a Lifestate?

It's been confirmed that Spellcasters are a new life state to be introduced in The Sims 4: Realm of Magic. How do you feel about it? Are you neutral? Happy? Angry?

I've been hoping for my Regina & her sister Zelena to have magical powers in their DNA. Not just being regular sims with Herbalism, Gardening, Baking, Cooking, Wellness & Mixology Skills, it got quite boring after awhile.

I prefer it as a lifestate. It wouldn't be so unique and special if everyone had it.

I Would Have Preferred Magic to be a Skill
One of the first discussions I started on this forum was on this topic. I still would have preferred a skill open to all so we can combine magic with with other lifestates.

I doesn't bother me terribly but a magic skill would have offered opportunities to tell different stories.

I would have prefered a more Makin' Magic experience, but I'm not spitting in rage at it being locked behind a lifestate again. It seems more logical that the arcane arts would be natural courses of study for beings that live forever, and I think that the "magical blood" concept that the Harry Potter books popularized is an unfortunate commentary on the state of opinions about "racial purity" in society, but it is what it is.

I mean, it's been that way since Sims 2, sooo... And Sims 1 didn't even have life states.

Ideally, I'd rather it have been a trait locked skill, and that trait being available either at CAS or if you undergo a Strangerville-like quest, but I'm not sure how much of a mess a trait locked skill would have made for programing (and Ideally, we'd have more than 3 traits at CAS)

But having it as a Life State that can be quested for doesn't bother me one bit.

This is exactly what I wanted. It's no fun if all sims are able to learn magic.

When witches were added to TS3 I was really bummed that it was a life state, but I got used to it. But the more I thought about it the more I got used to it. The way I look at it now is if it were a skill, then everyone could be one, and that would take away the special part of what it is.

Frankly I find it being a life state sensible.
Occultism in Sims is family-friendly and should not be watered down to cater to realism players

It's no big deal, but I still would have liked it if it had been a new ability that could have been learned and practiced by everyone (including vampires).

No, it always been a life state and works well with all the different lores that way. Just like vampires, you can either create one in CAS or become one in game going to the magic realm and meeting the sages. Occult sims are supposed to special, not like the typical sim, so they have their own abilities, traits and needs. If it was just a skill that any sim can just learn, the magic system wouldn't be as complex (no perks, curses and all that).

I feel the same way. I would have loved something more like Makin' Magic, but I'm not surprised and I don't mind too much that it is a life state, especially since that seems to be what most simmers want. I just wish there was some form of magic skill that all sims could learn, such as alchemy, and that vampires could become spellcasters and vice versa. It doesn't make sense to me from a story telling perspective. I'm more of a fan of creepy folklore than Harry Potter though. Oh well, I'm sure I will still enjoy the pack.

I like this. It makes it more 'exclusive' in the sence that only Sims with the trait have the abilities. I don't like certain stuff being a skill.

In an ideal world, I would have wanted magic to be a life state AND for hybrids to be possible, so that vampires and mermaids could also be spellcasters.

But since there are no hybrids in TS4 (except the buggy ones), I had been hoping that magic would be a skill so that my vampires would have access to it.

Why is everyone so obsessed with magic needs to be a skill?

There's an answer. Do you want it, or are you going to just waive me off like last time?

Actually, judging by this and other polls, I think most people are fine with it. But everyone has the right to express their opinions :)

Some people gave their reasons in their posts. Taking the time to read them will answer your question.

I would prefer it to have been a skill so that vampires and mermaids could also have used magic. But perhaps I would have liked it to be a skill linked to a trait, so that NPCs wouldn't run amok. However, someone made a valid point earlier about racial purity, too.

Hey, maybe the occult genetics will still be bugged and people can get their magical vampires. Nah, if casters are anything like vampires, it will be even buggier. If only EA just altered this bug so it works properly... :/
~I just like lifestates. Is that too much to ask for?~

Yes, but I heard somewhere that Spellcasters won't have a "dark form" like all other occult, making it probably less buggy for them to be hybrids with say, vampires.
