Murder Mystery Pack

This is a pack I have wanted forever, but kept quiet because it’s not entirely plausible and may involve styles and themes similar to other packs. But I’m seeing movie trailers lately that revisit themes of classic murder mysteries. If you’re curious, look at Knives Out and Ready or Not. Not to mention some recent(ish) remakes of classic Agatha Christie novels like Murder on the Orient Express And Crooked House (these films and trailers may not be suitable for all audiences). I would say that there is a renewed fandom of classic, spooky, treacherous fiction—and an overt love among us for the true crime genre. So why not add this into the Sims 4?

I struggled to come up with a distinct concept for this Murder Mystery pack, mostly because it potentially could be too similar to other packs. The furnishings might look like Vintage Glamour, or Vampires, plus Realm of Magic might come with some antiques too. Solving a mystery in this pack might look like Get to Work’s detective career, or the Strangerville mystery. Plus this pack would involve a dark, tragic, and potentially horrible felony against another innocent sim. But I don’t want to abandon this Murder Mystery pack idea.

So here is one possible approach: Murder Mystery Party Stuff

Live Mode: new social event type: Murder Mystery Party, to which we can wear new costumes.

CAS: trench coats (plural), tweed Miss Marple skirts, a curly Poirot mustache, a women’s hairstyle that covers one eye, Sherlock Holmes hat, vintage glasses, simpler monocle, formal military uniform, etc

Build/Buy: antique fainting couch, billiards table (because Clue), a new secret passage door, a big antique victrola/gramaphone, a regular upright piano, tripod telescope, weapon props, etc

Still, despite being gritty and tragic, simurder would be kind of awesome as part of a murderous game pack. The pack could add funerals, will readings/inheritance disputes, a coroner career and/or estate law career! Anyway...

Please discuss, if you have any further ideas I’d love to hear.

I'd love this because I really love Hercule Poirot tv series

but also I think actually since Hercule Poirot takes place in 20s
that would not clash with the existing b/b and cas themes too much
(or at least I don't really have anything to use when I try to make it happen in my game :joy:)
    its more gameplay clash

but it would really need the old cars though there is so much cars when it comes to poirot
or trains or vehicles in general tbh he travels so much

this is really what i missed with gtw detective career because the crimes in it just do not exercise my little grey cells enough
but I am not sure how they would handle the actual crime scenes and such with their current take on what is acceptable

so party would probably suit it better yeah maybe like fake ''murder game'' like in Dead Man's Folly ? but like its actually a game? :joy:
(unless mods take over >:) ) also there really needs to be those rich sims parties where everyone shows up super fancy and in theme
and garden parties where everyone is suspicious

maybe it would come with its own very british village where everyone has deep dark secrets to uncover

also yes inheritance funerals and law career would all come very handy trying to make drama out of my sims lives

Not a huge mod fan, because I know the Extreme Violence mod can get out of hand. I’ve seen videos of it where townie sims in the background are stabbing each other. I would definitely not want that to happen ever in a pack.

Definitely more into the suspicious atmosphere, dramatic interactions, and cool antiques.

yeah the mods have no limit so it often goes too violent but just saying its unlikely for "murder" to be part of mystery without mods seeing how detectives too only have jobs like find out who doodled goths house or whatever

it be cool if we could at least snoop around and find out about hidden pasts of charas and they could bring back goth mystery etc too cuz this game just really needs the mystery

I LOVE this idea!! I honestly never really thought about this ever.

This would be a great stuff pack!! Ooh, I actually want this so bad now. Honestly, I just have my vampire sims like hired assassins with the kill mod. "Need someone taken care of? Hold on, call Vlad 1-800-kill." It would be so cool as a halloween special!

I agree, you can't actually add in real murder to the game.. not when it's rated E or for teens? (I thought it was E?) But I did really want a 'difficulty' slider in TS4. Because, it's way too hard to kill sims in TS4. And extreme violence mod, is just waaayyy too much. XX

As far as concept goes, yeah there's vintage glamor, and vampire pack, and some of the Get Famous stuff even.. That time period already has some CAS in it. I would be a bit afraid too to say that it should also be in the same category. Although I think that those packs combined don't offer enough of it. Either I feel that the clothes are too much to fit into the rest of the world, OR they are not enough to be apart of what I want it to be apart of. I find myself using the same ones over and over again. A lot of it is unflattering, especially for the women. Maybe more focused in a new-victorian style. Vintage Glamour is more 1920's, which is just out of the victorian era. And as you said, we don't know what Realm of Magic will give. Maybe it could also be a touch steampunk? a lot of people are into that, and fits in nicely with victorian style. It would add opportunity to add in some vintage tinker items as well.

Ooh, I just had another thought!
Maybe instead of (or in addition to) throwing a Murder Mystery Party at your sim's own house, there is a generic lot that comes with this pack--an old mansion--with lots of nooks and crannies for finding clues, and secret passages, and stuff. Thunder and lightning FX machines. A cast of actors that come with the lot, like a dinner theater thing (but without food or a stage, lol)

also thought that this could be good ''hotel'' vacation pack
because I realized that Poirot always at some fancy rich ppl hotels
so they could add type of hotel (sort of like lot trait for a hotel you could assign)
where sims cheat on their spouses, things get stolen,
sims get poisoned, workers be shady and have weird dealings
the locals be shady too and you could get robbed in the streets or even attacked
everyone would have dark or not so dark past to discover through interacting with them more
and you could help new npc police to catch culprits + if u have gtw on detective career you could catch them yourself
also reintroduction of classic burglars too (and possibility they were not even robbing your sim but someone else)

It's a cool idea, but I doubt it will ever get looked at :( They took out burglary in TS4 for.. I actually can't remember the reason but it was a dumb one. So if burglary is too "upsetting" to the game.. a murder pack is a big yikes.

I do absolutely love the idea though, I love murder mystery stuff. I didn't know if you were making this for us simmers or the dev team. Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.

@JosieAnglin I see what you're saying. But growing up for me, Whodunnit movies were rated PG. They were less about violence and more about scandals and snooping. Mystery is a hugely popular genre, which I guess hasn't fully been ignored by the Sims, since we have Strangerville--though that's more Sci-fi than classic mystery.

I'm not sure how to get the developer's attention without @ing them, which I doubt would work anyway.

I grew up watching Agatha Christie shows, Murder She Wrote, Diagnosis Murder ect. So this idea makes me so happy.

I'd love a new world added in this pack, maybe with a "murder mystery train", manor houses, and other places typical is murder mystery shows.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea. I am also a huge fan of Hercule Poirot, and other Agatha Christie characters. I love a good mystery and a murder mystery party that sims could throw would be awesome! Just think they already can play dead, watch when they teach the trick to a dog, its so funny , they could use that animation to add to the sim that *dies*, I love this idea!!!!!!!

If townies would be restricted from going on killing sprees, adding murder into the Sims 4 would be awesome. But still, I'm possibly just as excited if they would add some cool murder mystery-y objects like antique pianos, pool tables, etc. It's a dream of mine, but maybe it will become a reality.

i really want fancy suspicious mansion and garden parties with rich sims and fancy car drives and some almost ridiculous rich sim clothes (like to the point of disgusting), poker, some mystery regarding premades because they left it out big time with ts4 which is sad even just new premade mystery if they cant pick up goths and such anymore just make new families that have full blown mystery to them

also id like to snoop around
    listening in discussions at doors
    peeking through windows
possibly getting sims angry at u and lose relationship if they notice u snooping

also having your sims share secret criminal plots or something and getting caught for the actual criminal acts since i want to send my sims to jail 😂😂

(it be great if u have gtw theyd actually have to go to jail not just rabbit hole)

also possibility that if your sims spouse catch u cheating they would actually just go like get ur things out of my house and youd then get split household and funds screen and some screen with them arguing and one of them leaving with bags

just. some drama plz. some social scandals 😂

That sounds so fun! I love the whole idea of solving a mystery. Even if it's just a "who dunnit?" At a house party. And the costumes that could go with it! Would definitely be a great way for Sims to socialise.
Where I used to work a few years ago we used to hold murder mystery parties maybe 1 a year, and all proceeds would go to charity (people would pay to attend and take part with a dinner provided). Something like that would be an amazing little twist to the game!

I think it's possible, especially after Strangerville came out. The only thing I'm worried about is how many murder mistery storylines they could/will put in. It would be great if we could make our own. I don't know how would we make it though..

The butler did it, in the library, with that bust of Princess Cordelia!

    I like it!

Potentially it could have mimed murders, which a lot of players would love the actions of for story telling purposes.
It could contain items like a fake knife, or a gun with a "bang!" flag, which if your sim has in their inventory, they could take it out occasionally, and play around with it as an idle action.

I really like this idea, too. And if the chalk outline murders in the GTW career are tame enough, then this is certainly tame enough, too.

    I fully support this!

I love this idea! Many of the suggestions are great. Ooh, maybe they could bring back the ghost hunter career with this pack? Since there could be hauntings and such that are already in the game but amplified in this.

I would like this. And it's not as if they would have to kill a sim or even show them dying.

Only if it's a Sims 4 Gamepack but not actual murder of sims. It could be a
Who Kidnapped Mr. Sim or Abduction on the Orient Express.

I am a big fan of mysteries and true crime. I would love to see a pack like this rather than some of those (I mean no offence) stupid and useless packs for Sims 4. If done right I think it would truly be an amazing pack. New traits like observant where ordinary sims assume that the other sim is psychic when they simply were extremely observant. Forensic Pathologist would make another good career added in. Have aspirations like "Scooby-Doo Mystery", "Nancy Drew" Mysteries to be solved etc. Have a solve a Cold Case as an aspiration. It wouldn't push the T rating. However, I do like the idea of my sim solving an actual murder mystery. Being able to get samples of DNA to test. Ballistics. Criminology as a new skill. Criminal Justice as a new course to learn at the university. Psychology as a skill to learn. Profiler as a new career too. Have something like Interpol and Scotland Yard and FBI to work with or work for. Private Investigator as a new Career I would love to see too. I love Agatha Cristie mysteries. I love Edgar Alan Poe The Father of Detective Story. He invented the mystery genre. Auguste Dupin as a sim would be awesome.

This is a great concept. I really love it. I think it would be a great addition to the careers pack and could hopefully allow detectives and police and criminals be more hands on, which I think TS4 needs. If the game doesn't want to get too dark with it, it could be a lights go out situation and then next thing you know one or more sims are dead and you have to figure out how it was done and who did it. This is really great. As far as themes, I agree the vintage glamour pack does cover that, but they could add more film noir stuff to the pack, along with potentially new death types.
