Why is it impossible to retroactively make both parents of an existing sim???

Even with cas.fulleditmode on, I literally can't create both parents of an existing sim.
When I go edit the relationships, and select the father sim as the father, and then the mother sim as the mother, the father sim resets to roommate. And vice versa. It's so annoying. I want both of them in his family tree. It shouldn't be that hard!

Is anyone else having this issue? Any way to fix this???

This better not be "by design", I swear.

I have seen it and it was not always so it might be a bug
