HORRIBLE screen tearing help plz!

so recently for like 4 months now i noticed that my sims 3 game is tearing alot or lines would appear when i move the camera. it really appeared out of no where and i dont know how , at first it wasn't annoying me but now its unbearable especially in map view and i tried almost everything possible, i tried putting vsync from the nvidia control panel but that didn't work, i tried capping the fps to 60 in nvidia inspector but that also didn't work and didn't cap the frames. i dont know what to do anymore?? do you guys know anything to this?

Before tackling the screen tears, in case they are being caused by something else, I would strongly suggest fixing the fps limiting first. This is not optional, uncapped fps rates can lead to graphics glitches, lag, crashes, and in addition to screen tears can ultimately burn out your video card and do damage to the system board, depending on how powerful a video card you have.

On the Nvidia Control Panel, are you specifying the correct executable to work with? It should be TS3.exe (for Patch 1.69) or TS3w.exe (with the "w" for 1.67). On Nvidia Inspector, are you explicitly entering a frame rate limit value of 60 or something as close to that as it will accept in the section where it asks for one?

Does it make any difference if you play and test the frame rates in windowed vs. full-screen mode? Many players on Win 10 especially get good results with the Control Panel/Inspector combo in windowed mode by using Windowed Borderless Gaming.

i tried capping my fps the way you exactly told me to ts3.exe cuz i have patch 1.69 but it still doenst work i put it to 60fps exactly should i put it in a different way @igazor ? and i tried the windowed borderless gaming it did SIGNIFICANTLY put the screen tearing down but its still there why?

What kind of fps rates are you actually getting in-game this way? I mean, are they just slightly over 60 at times or are they spiking into the hundreds or thousands?

The place in Inspector I was referring to was under Section 2, Sync and Refresh, then Frame Rate Limiter. If an entry of 60 doesn't work there, perhaps try values around it like 59 or 61. Maybe @SimplyJen can help more if she is available, I have an AMD card so the tools I have to use are different.

If Inspector just isn't going to lock things in, the next tool we usually recommend is RivaTuner Stats Server (RTSS). This one is a little different in that it must be running alongside of the game unlike the others, but it can be set to startup with Windows.

i actually usually get around the 40s and 50s but mostly at 80 i have the 920m which is not really the greatest but it works XD

and i will try diffrent values lke 59 like you said and see whats best so thx @igazor

@igazor i was able to fix the tearing!! i actually put it on 59 and the game runs now VERY smoothly and no tearing! i dont know how exactly that happened but thank you soo much

I don't think a 920M is capable of throwing frame rates consistently high enough to do damage, but can see where things could appear to become unglued if it starts misbehaving. Glad that helped.

really thx for the help and i hope i get a new laptop on my bday XD but as long as i can play sims 3 im happy
