I've been staying away from discussions about strangerville because I was on the fence about buying it. I did purchase today and have I been away from the game for such a while that I can't manage my sim anymore or do the needs decay faster while solving the mystery

There is one way to solve it...

Get your sim infected. Posessed sims' needs won't decay. Don't worry, your sim won't be posessed all the time.
Your sim can get posessed by eating a bizarre fruit.
