What other story idea do you like for a game pack

TomatplanteTomatplante Posts: 2,793 Member
I haven't bought Strangerville and probably won't do it, but I think I could buy a story driven game pack if it had a theme that interested me. Here are some ideas for similar game pack concepts to Strangerville. If you want more packs like this, which theme would you be interested in? I haven't made an option for those who don't want these kinds of packs, that's not the intention of the poll.

Secret agents, high tech crime stuff
I'm also in favour of Pirates and Castaway.

The most important point is that the game delivers an interactive setting with the story being a secondary addon. That's why I think finding someone or a murder story would be bad choices. Because once you've found the missing person or solved the murder case, what is there left of the pack? Crime & Hightech is more versatile. There can be a specific crime that makes up the story, but once we've solved that, we can still have fun with gangs, FBI agents and inventions.

Kinda like Strangerville - you can stay in stage 2 or 3 and create an immersive save around the situation without ever needing to touch the story again. In a murder story staying in stage 2 would be boring, because that wouldn't be any different from a normal sims game.

    With pirates I could imagine:
stage 1 = pirate sightings, pirates visit the town but are more chatty than aggressive, they sell exotic goods (spices, parrots) for rum (new harvestable: sugar cane, new crafting station: sugar press)
stage 2 = the town under siege, random attacks of spys
stage 3 = the town under attack, regular burglaries, aggressive pirates in the streets
So, each stage would be distinct and interesting without the need to advance the story.

They all sound fun but I was tied between the Harry Potter themed and Medieval choices. I play a lot of Skyrim so those packs would be right up my alley.

I only want more story packs if they make the stories more open, variable and interesting.
    • I'd totally love medieval and apocalyptic, if just for the peak aesthetics, buildings, outfits or items they could provide. They'd be fantastic for making up my own stories.
    • The mystery packs could be fun if the mysteries, victims, suspects and clues were all randomized, so we'd get a new experience each time.
    • Castaway stories could also be fun, even without a good story, because the premise alone is solid - and it would be an instant buy for me if they bring back the chimpanzee pets from the original Castaway game.
    • I'm not feeling a Sci-Fi/alien story since we just got one. And unless we can settle down and colonize on a planet, or explore space in-depth, it's going to be the pack I'm least interested in.
    • Pirates, I'm iffy on. I love pirates, I'd love to explore the high seas, and I would love to have my sims live on a houseboat or pirate ship. But to make the best out of this pack, I think we'd need a basic combat system for swashbuckling. No choosing between two options and hoping luck is on our side. Pirating isn't as fun or interesting if you're not living adventurously, and all the sea life stuff could be implemented better in different packs.
    • Full yes to magic mystery, if it gives us witches and magical powers. If our sims are normal though, what's the point? But I think a magical story pack would be great, since all the occult sims (and the creatures they're based on) have so much potential for interesting stories. (As an aside, I'd die for a magical school pack.)

    Pirates
Lovely ideas. Unfortunately, the possibility of any of them coming into existence for this iteration doesn't seem realistic. However, the thought of playing with a galleon full of same-sex pirate couples appeals to me.

    Castaway
I had a hard time picking between the top 3. I want them all!

I would love a cruise murder mystery!

An Oceans 11 type pack where you plan out a robbery of a big casino might be fun too. They could introduce casinos and robbers at the same time. :p

    Castaway
Castaway would be amazing -- figuring out how to make a shelter and get food with limited resources. Then once you can survive, devising a way to get off the island Gilligan-style. Build a boat or raft or glider with varying levels of success, build a flare gun and wait to be rescued, befriend a school of dolphins, train fitness to level 11 and swim to safety, etc.

    Medieval (castles and knights)
If I'm being entirely honest, I don't want any more story driven packs, as I love my sandbox and creating stories of my own. Also many of these stories just wouldn't fit with my main household. However, if I had to choose, then it would be Medieval since I'm a total history nerd. I think a separate game would probably work better for that though. A classic murder mystery would be my second choice. I have no interest in castaway, but if it happens, then they better include Wilson! :D

... A classic murder mystery would be my second choice. ...

A single-player version of Clue where the weapon, the venue and the perp change every time. Now that's a great idea. Similar to the Detective career but more fleshed out. Very replayable.

Apocalypse - a fight for survival before you can rebuild the world
Apocalypse edges out Medieval very slightly for me. But I'd love to have both.
It's kind of sad that I have to point out that anything I say is only just my opinion and may be a different one from someone else.

A castaway story would be fun but it would have to be implemented differently than the original just because of how the Sims 4 is played. You shouldn't/couldn't really be stuck on the island, so instead give the island a mystery to solve (a curse, buried treasure, etc.). Then provide everything you would need to pretend you are stuck on the island so that players could choose to live on the island as if stuck or just come and visit the island to solve the mystery. It would better satisfy both the sandbox and story driven players I think.

Things that weren't in the poll that could be fun with stories:

Superheroes - Each level of the story would be the super villain slowly implementing their plan to take over the world/city and you have to stop them before it's too late. The first level the sky would darken with random lightening strikes, second level would be random earthquakes on the lot you are at, third level everyone would be angry and fighting in the streets and/or henchman would be around starting fights or freezing sims with freeze guns. At the end you have to destroy the villain's takeoverthecityinator which is causing all these things.

A fairy forest - A wood which at first appears normal, but as you explore it becomes more and more apparent that the fairies are displeased with your poking around. Each stage would increase the magical feel of the woods (fairy lights, glowing mushroom circles, a glow to the sky). At the end you could make a deal with the fairies to return everything back to normal or leave it as is. If you have high mischief you could trick them (beware their wrath) or with high charisma you could befriend them (beware their friendship).

Basically I think the life states which are less likely to get a pack dedicated to them, could be brought into the game by tying a story to them. I could see something similar for mermaids and a treasure hunting story line, could even throw them into a castaway story.

Just to be clear I'd rather not have any more story packs, but if I had to choose one I'd choose something of magic mystery. And if they did do it, I'd want it to be a long detailed story.

Fallout 4 settlements, sims version. Cyberpunk town with someone looking for a secret identity could be cool as well. Or space adventure on another planet. Or mermaids under the sea, or a unicorn rodeo, or anything, really, that isn't everyday.
I want to play ALL the premade families! One day...

    Medieval (castles and knights)
Well I am only interested in my Stories and while one half of my stories occurs in the 19th century to present Day. The other half occurs in a fantasy based Medieval world that also clashes with Antiquity, and the Modern World.

I have The King, The Queen The Royal Family, The 7 Noble Families that make up the Knights of the Realm, the Castles, and grandeur that comes with them, as well as The Darkness that threatens the Kingdom, and His Majesty's Life.

The Question is can such a pack support my Story? or would I be playing someone else's? If I'm playing someone else's story, or I can't manipulate the Story into my own at least then such a pack is useless.

I like the secret agent stuff! That way they could improve the career.
But if they ever go with a medieval style story pack it could be about time travel or something

Come to think of it, I honestly wouldn't mind another spin off game (maybe a remake) of Sims: Castaway! I remember playing it on the Nintendo DS a long time ago... lol This post actually brought back a lot of nostalgia because of that specific choice!
