I STUCK and I need your advice PLEASE

«1
I've been playing Sims for a long time. Since the first game in the series.
I always loved it, I bought every expansion pack, I always followed the development of the game.

After more than 10 years I first encountered a problem - I get stuck. where? CAS.

I create a sim, design it, choose traits, choose make-up ... and then I get tired of it so I create a new sim, choose clothes, hair, skin and then it looks dull so I delete it and create a new sim and continue the same thing.

I can pass four hours in front of CAS without ever reaching the game itself.
I have a confession: I have all the packs and most of them I did not play at all. Why? Because I do not get into the game itself. I always get stuck in CAS.

Is anyone else stuck there? Does anyone have any advice on how to move on?

There are probably a lot of simmers who do the same but don't consider it a problem. Do you want to play? Or do you just enjoy creating sims?
There are some simmers who only want to build.

You might want to check out the Creator's Corner. Maybe you can continue creating sims and share them with the community.

I don't play TS4, I play in TS3, but your situation need not be iteraton-specific. I don't stay in CAS for very long because I'm more of a live game player than anything else. I think you're staying too long in CAS because maybe you're demanding too much of yourself when you create sims? To me, as long as the sims looks decent, I'm basically done and I'm ready to go with live play. Why not post some pics of your sims? They're probably not as dull as you think!

Complete opposite here, I cannot stay in CAS for much at all, I get bored. CAS is probably my least favorite part of every iteration.

I think there’s truth in the remark you can’t play Sims the wrong way. For you it’s CAS and I think it’s only a problem when you yourself consider it one ;) Apparently you do, or you wouldn’t ask for help. The first step I guess would be to be firm to yourself, put the sims you love most (you must have many haha) in the game, pick one and start playing them. Then see what happens ;)

hey there, I've moved this over to general discussion as it's not exactly feedback and might generate more conversation over here. Carry on

I usually create a sim with a clear goal in mind. Do I want to explore the creative side of a sim? Or do I want my sim to be a nerd? I create based on what that sim might be.

    Maybe do that.
Create a sim you know is going to be a Police officer.

You've been stuck in CAS for 9 years? Maybe you are just a CAS player. Sims has players of all styles. Builders, Sim Creators (CAS players), storytellers, challenge players, deviant players.... Maybe you just are a Sim creator and not really a player. I mean, if you've been doing this for 9 years, it might just be your happy place.

A way to move on is stop creating a sim and try play with premades.

I have this problem. I also have this problem in build mode. I spend hours creating a sim, sometimes even a day or two. I spend FOREVER creating buildings, that can take me up to a week. Then I play that save game for a couple days and start the process all over again. I love creating.

I have every pack too, so this doesn't help me create quickly. I need to try every combination of clothes and objects lol.

I'm trying to play with premade face and bodies, and also generator for the rest. I also find very good generators for traits, aspirations, careers and skills. Even for a walk style LOL

After that I just shaping and changing a little bit of everything to give it my vibe...

    Thanks for the advice!

I always try to came up with a story for my Sims. I get very excited for GF because I dreaming since Superstar to make my Sims and famous actor (LN was pretty suck in the game part). But everything can change my mind, like a traits or a short can make me change my all story .

I'm now trying to play with any kind of generators. Try to do the "one click generator" challenge 😉

You need a good deal of resolution and say enough is enough and I am going to play you! Says me after making the fifth choice of clothes for the summer months in Sims 4. Just enjoy yourself and whatever you want to do - it's ok. :)o:)

I tend to do that a lot with TS4 because I'm personally never satisfied with the look of a sim or their ensemble. So I start again.

You could just download sims from the Gallery that you like, that way you can choose whatever you want if creating is hard.
Or maybe like someone else suggested, just deside enough is enough and play with what you got.
When it comes to preemades you can play households like the Goths or Pancakes. That way you don't have to go though CAS to start at all.

I tried using random Sims from the Gallery & then made minor changes so clothing was more to my taste or changed hairstyle or whatever. However, once I started to actually play the Sim that they had extra traits that didn't show up in CAS - like "never sleeps" or something that I wouldn't want a Sim to have when I was starting a game with them from scratch. That isn't made clear when you select a Sim from the Gallery & I found that quite frustrating.

I have two or three Sims i absolutely adore. I have tried in vain to make ones i like as much as my favorites. I have almost no interest in creating female sims. When i do it’s all premade outfits. For the guys, i create like five outfits in each category.

I also find male Sims easier to create. The female.... IDK girl... Something about their clothes, and standing...

If the sim had the never sleep trait the sim was played before upload. It might help to check the description of the sim. For example some write #cas or #played etc.for other simmers to know if the sim is played or not. But that isn't always the case (as you might have noticed). The way you can work around that is to create a twin of the sim you downloaded from the gallery in cas. That way the sim is fresh while still looking like the original.

Other than that I'm out of ideas I'm afraid.

I see simmers split into three groups, those who really love CAS, those who love Building and those who love playing.
Are you sure you don't just enjoy the cas part more or is it a case of feeling uninspired and thus unhappy with your CAS creation that prevents you from playing?

Completely understand this. I do the same, but if I stick with generations I am doing fine. I just make a fresh new save and give all my sims a unique story, life line, goals and personality. Try to keep goals ahead to work to otherwise you get bored and vision less.

Sometimes sims look different in CAS then in Live Mode...I'll be like "ugh, don't know" but once I see them in game I make up my mind to keep them. Perhaps try to play each sim for a moment before you decide to keep them or create another? You could also create a couple of sims at a time, and then just keep the one you like best in live mode.

I adore the random button in CAS. I usually start with a Sim from the gallery and make changes as I see fit. I'm talking 5 minutes max. I hit random until a hairstyle or shirt etc look somewhat decent on them and then I'm back into the gameplay.

I pretty much do the same for homes. I drop a home down from the gallery, delete all of those clutter objects, make sure there's a laundry somewhere and a bathroom on the first floor and get back into the gameplay.

That being said, I did edit one of the default homes from Willow Creek the other day and it looks pretty good if I do say so myself. I took a lot of time even choosing the proper color for the foundation which I never do. It was kinda nice. I was going to add it onto the gallery but it keeps saying the house contains CC when it doesn't, so...

I am a sims player since the first game of the series. Then I followed TS2, TS3, and now playing TS4. I can explain my play style as "consuming the the product completely" which means I play with everything the game offers. Sometimes I spend hours creating 1 sim, sometimes I spend a few days in a row building and decorating 1 house or restaurant etc. Sometimes I just want to play and keep the story of certain sims moving on then I CAS and Build mode become a hassle which interrrupt my playing so I do the necessary changes quickly in those.
Giant houses, mansions that I build for joy of building are usually tedious for normal game play. When I play, I use a more practical and compact house for my active family. Because it shouldn't take my sim 2 simhours to walk from their bedroom to the kitchen.
Sometimes I cheat the heck out of the game, do silly stuff, like making one guy have babies from all the ladies in town, making a girl have babies from all the awkward fathers like father winter, flower bunny, tragic clown..etc, making one sim imprison and torture his neighbours feeding them only spoiled food etc. and sometimes I play extremely vanilla like eat, sleep, go to work, get promoted, buy a better tv, kind of gameplay that I even avoid using any custom content.

Shortly I play in all ways depending on how I feel like playing, what I have in mind on that day.

What I can suggest you to break your CAS cycle would be; try to create a plan in your mind. You obviously like creating sims visually, next time try to create a sim visually according to a made up back story for that sim, according to their traits. Plan a game about that sim. Imagine what kind of a house will that sim live in, what job would suit them, how they would proceed in life. So when you are done in CAS, you have a reason to put that sim in a house and start their life and see what happens. Just play the game!
