Hello! This is my new story thread for my Christmas in Hollidaysburg SimLit. Ironically, this project was born because I missed the Positivity Challenge. I created two sisters, Merry and Holly Bright, to be my positive-spreading ladies. Then I set about remaking the town of Windenburg into the Christmas-themed town, Hollidaysburg. I've downloaded a bunch of Christmas-themed lots created by talented Simmers in the gaming community (and I'll try to give credit where credit is due as often as possible). I've modified them somewhat to fit my vision.

My idea is to write a winter/ Christmas themed story about two sisters who own and operate a bakery and spread comfort and joy around the holidays. Their bakery is in the Christmas Village in the image above. I'll likely post loads more here over the course of the next few days, but I just wanted to get this post up and running. I'll likely do a casting call for Christmas characters or general Sims who want to live in a Christmas-themed town. I'll have jobs for the shopkeepers posted shortly as well as images of the town, the houses available for living in, and the Bright sisters.

Meet the Bright Sisters

Merry is the elder of the Bright twins. A single gal, she took over the family business, All Things Bright and Beautiful Bakery. She's never really traveled, living her whole life in Hollidaysburg. It's been a little lonely. Her twenties have come and gone, and many of her friends have married and have kids or have moved away. She stays focused on her work, enjoying baking sweets, eating a good meal, and watching cooking shows. She's cheerful by nature, and loves to spread joy and happiness when she can. Her clumsiness occasionally leads to a kitchen mishap or a slip in the snow on her way to work, but she manages. Merry hopes to be a master the culinary arts and try her hand at other kinds of cooking. Maybe her sister's return will free up some time to take cooking classes or find love.


Holly is the younger of the Bright twins by one minute and forty-seven seconds. When she was nineteen, she married a military colonel twice her age. After three years of bliss and traveling, they were stationed on Luna in Forgotten Grotto. Her husband was killed in a battle with the Xekzoi (green aliens) on the front lines. A young widow, Holly struggled to relate to her peers, choosing to travel the globe as a freelance photographer with Clock Magazine rather than return home. Now she wants to settle down again and make amends with her twin sister, returning to Hollidaysburg after nearly fifteen years. Holly shares her sister's love of food and baking skills, though she much prefers to dance the night away, meet new people, and throw epic parties. With the family bakery struggling financially, she hopes to put her photography and people skills to good use and build a solid marketing campaign, and maybe brave the dating world again.

Why Move to Hollidaysburg?

Hollidaysburg is a festive place to live. It's Christmas 24/7 - and the beautiful snow-covered city could not be a more perfect place to be for showcasing your holiday spirit. The town is now recruiting shopkeepers for its storefronts. Each position comes with a modest salary and living accommodations available for rent or purchase, typically above the store. There will also be other businesses around town for other Sims to own, rent, or patronize.

I want to list all the shops available before making my decision about who will go where. I might mix and match too if the space above the shop or the store itself doesn't accommodate the Sim/family you submit, but don't worry. Everyone will have a place to live.

What can I contribute to a shop? I'm organized, friendly, outgoing, and assertive. I love to make people feel welcome and appreciated, and, at the same time, I'm not afraid to nip mean behavior in the bud. This makes me an ideal candidate for a position dealing with customers, staff, and suppliers.

Traits: Art Lover, Creative, Gloomy
Background: Ebenezer Snow is passionate about the arts (in particular painting). As passionate as he is about painting, he is equally passionate in a different way about is hating of the winter holidays (particularly Christmas). There are quite a few reasons why.

First of all, everything about him from his demeanor to his favorite music to his love of horror films, monsters, and the occult suggests that he would be more at home in a town that celebrates Halloween the way Hollidaysburg is for Christmas.

Second is that most everyone treats him like garbage around the holidays because he doesn't like Christmas, even outright insulting him and threatening him (irony that their violent reactions to Ebenezer seems to reinforce his negative views of this holiday season).

Yet the biggest reason he hates Christmas is that it reminds him of his past in that Ebenezer Snow is the illegitimate son of Santa Clause. Santa Clause had a fling about 26 years ago that led to Ebenezer being born out of wedlock. On top of all of this, Santa Clause was a deadbeat dad that refused to even acknowledge Ebenezer's existence (meaning that growing up he was the one kid that never got a present from Santa). His mom also killed herself when he was five on Christmas morning (or so it seems) making him a ward of the foster care system and oh boy did Ebenezer have some terrible abusive foster homes he lived in.

When not dwelling on the most heinous time of the year in his eyes, this grinchy schrooge of a man's passions include Painting, Photography, making bar drinks, watching horror films, and listening to Metal music (those bands have way better songs about winter weather anyways).

St. Nicholas Chapel

The beautiful St. Nicholas Chapel has been a monument in the town of Hollidaysburg for years. December is a busy time a year for weddings and baby dedications, and of course, there's the annual candlelight service. Whether you are religious, all are welcome in the pews for quiet reflection, prayer, or meditation.
Stipend: §880/week plus the use of the rectory home

In my Sim world, I have different religions and faiths. Protestant pastors (male or female) are known as shepherds. This particular position is open for a shepherd and family. The lovely log rectory houses a family of 4 or up to 4 individuals.










There is no "religious" career in Sims 4 so I'll create custom "jobs" for the shepherd. I've been perusing mods for other Sims games and taking some ideas from those career tasks, like community service (good deeds in the neighborhood), checking in on parishoners (calling a friend), writing a sermon (practice writing), practicing music (playing an instrument), give sermon (a speech at a podium), giving advice/counseling (via blogging), donate to charity, etc.

The Christmas Market has arrived at the Llama Memorial Library once again.



Every year shoppers from the town can come and purchase antique and unique items for their family and friends, and peruse the rare book collection up for auction.



Once the family manor of the Hanes sisters, the building and land was dedicated to the town after their tragic death in a meteor shower. It is said that the sisters haunt the halls of the library... but that might just be speculation.



While you're here, grab a pastry on the third floor from the bakery,



enjoy a quiet drink on the snowy patio,





check out the rare book collection,



and run through the Llama in the Snow Maze with your friends, if you dare.

Librarian/Museum Attendant - needs knowledge of old books, good with people, doesn't mind quiet... or things jumping out in the night.

@AdamsEve1231 - What a fantastic town you have built! It is so beautiful. If no-one has applied as yet, I would like to submit a couple for the Tinsel Toys. Of course, they could also fit at the Cafe Yule. Their names are Kris and Noelle Jingle. I had originally made them to test out an RV park that I had built, (I changed Mary's name to Noelle) but they have so missed the snow and the holiday time that they are looking for a new home.
Kris is self-assured, outgoing and a goofball and has Friend of the World as his aspiration.
Noelle is a foodie, neat and family-oriented and has Big Happy Family as her aspiration.




Kris is a well-known toymaker and Noelle is more known for her baking skill, but has dabbled in retail before. Her attention to the toy market is very keen. Both Kris and Noelle are eager to make as many friends as they can, and would love to host a party or two, or three. With any new town, there are traditions, and Kris and Noelle are hoping to start many new traditions of their own. I hope that they will find a place in this new town that they can call home.
