Populate a whole town

how do you populate the whole town using MCCC?

I want it to generate numerous households instantly especially in the ‘currently not in world’ tab as I don’t want every actual home filled

    It won't do it 'instantly'. Turn on the settings to pull sims from your gallery when the game makes new sims, and over time it will fully populate, but it's something that happens over the course of many sim days, not instantly. This setting is under MC Population->Populating Settings->Import Tray Settings

    Adjust the settings for MC Population->Moving Settings->Open Houses to keep from having 'every actual home filled'. If you want it so that NO homeless sims get moved in automatically, Disable Allow Homeless Move-In instead.

    I started a brand new save after the Import Tray option was added to MCCC last week and it took maybe a week or so of in game time before there was a really healthy number of households in the game, but it generated enough right away that my Sims weren't alone in the world. Now, 3 weeks in, the worlds have about half the houses populated (and I have it set to allow all except 1 house to get used) and there are another 84 households "currently not in world". What's really nice about those 84 households is that they are diverse, dress well...and don't have either ridiculous or repetitive names.

    But be verrry careful when populating using MCCC. I goofed up, and set my pregnancy setting for 2 children, thinking it was two total for a family, but no, it was per pregnancy. Yikes! I had a total population boom in the first batch of babies being born. I ended up pulling that file to the side, instead of deleting it, because there are sims and lots that I don't want to delete.

    so do I need to set import from tray on? sorry is the tray my gallery yeah?

    also I imagine it would be beneficial to download sims from the online gallery so that the world can be populated well? :)

    I’m new to using MCCC so sorry if I seem really confused it’s just such a big mod to understand

    @shanls96 Yes, you need to have import tray on if you want MCCC to be involved in the process. Otherwise the game is going to do it all randomly. MCCC doesn't actually generate sims at all, the game does, the setting to use the tray is just a feature that keeps the game from doing wacky stuff with the randomization.

    And yes, "tray" is your gallery. It's a terminology for the gallery that comes from previous sims games.

    And lastly, yes, it's beneficial to have a good amount of households in your gallery if you are going to turn that setting on, otherwise it's not going to do much. Thus, you will want to either make a lot of sims yourself, or download a lot, or a combination of the two.

    You absolutely do not need to use that particular setting though. It's not necessary for MCCC to function for everything else it does.

    sorry another quick question

    when MCCC uses households from the tray (my library) will it only use that household once ever?

    I obviously don’t want duplicates of sims around my world when it runs out of households to add into my game

    @shanls96, it will only bring in a sim from the tray if no other sim in the world has the same name. So this will mostly prevent duplicates. If you have it set to have sim names change upon marriage it could start bringing in duplicates as the originals get married and get new names though. I haven't quite figured out if it happens or not, but based upon the feature description...sounds like it would.

    I'm 5 weeks into a new save where I had it populate the entire world from my gallery and have yet to notice any duplicates, so either way it's not a huge concern if you have a healthy number of sims in your gallery (I have a few hundred).

    hate to be a pain but im really struggling to get the mod working to populate the town efficiently

    waited a sim week and checked in my 'manage households' to see what households have been generated and it seems they have taken the names from the tray etc but generated a load of single household ghosts?

    im so confused :(

    -1 means there is no limit. If you put in any other number you will be stopping it at that number. I would just leave this one alone if you are wanting the game to generate new sims. Don't forget the game does generate new sim for when there is a need for different roles such as mailman, mixologist.

    Now as far as turning on the import from Trey, if turned on it will move in sims you have in your library unless they share the same name. At least that was what I was told. I haven't started using this feature yet, because I have all the sims I want, and not really any in my library anyways. :)

    Do you have aging turned on? If you don't then things kind of stay where it is at for the most part, as far as new babies being produced.

    On the MCCC page, there is a tab that says Documentation, click on it, and go down to the one that talks about Population. Another good one to read up would be the one dealing with Pregnancy. It also goes into more details on Pregnancy and Marriage settings as well.

    Yes, when first getting started with MCCC it can be extremely confusing and stressful, at least it was for me.

    Something you might also be interested is there is another mod, that forces your game to use homeless sims already in your game, instead of creating new sims. It is the NPC Control Mod

    @shanls96, don't know what to tell you regarding a "bunch of homeless ghosts"....that's very weird, and not what MCCC does in my game. A week is not really a lot of time, but a bunch of ghosts is not what should happen either. Just some questions I thought of that could help get to the bottom of it:
    1. Are you sure you started a NEW save file?
    2. Maybe share your mc config file and we can see what settings you might not have set appropriately?
    3. Do you have other mods as well that weren't updated recently...maybe some other mod is killing off the sims being created?

    You do also need to be more patient, 1 week is not much time. MCCC does not run all of it's routines every night. Additionally, you need to make sure you are taking your Sims places...not just staying at home and going to work. The game, not MCCC, makes NEW sims. MCCC just names and dresses them if you set it to do so. Other than walk-by's and co-workers the game isnt going to be running routines to generate new sims when you just stay home, so if you aren't getting your sims out to a variety of lot types you won't see as much activity happening regarding new sim generation.

    You'll note that across all 66 households there are only like 1 or 2 ghosts in there. Ghosts should not be visible in the households view, in general. (MCCC does let you make ghosts visible when you need to do something with them...but there's no reason to normally have them visible except when you need to manage them to add to households or what not).

    Alot of service sims and specially made sims also default to not being visible in the household view, so those aren't showing in my shots. I wonder, did you go and make all the not-visible households visible just so you could monitor things more closely? That's way too much effort for me...I just set MCCC up to do it's job, and stopped worrying about it...and as you can see, it did fine.

    Also, at the 'end of 5 weeks' since the game started, I'm at about 60% housing usage. So that part takes time.

    wow your game looks amazingly full I’m so jealous! I may need to try reinstalling the mod and altering the settings from scratch..
    I don’t have many other mods that could be conflicting and all my other mods are up to do :/ such a weird issue...

    is there any chance you could share your exact settings from the mod that I could just alter in my config file? Or is that not allowed?

    @shanls96, this is the contents of the mc_settings.cfg file I use. You can just copy and paste it over yours if you'd like. You will definitely want to go in and change the default save game name for auto-save though, seeing as I doubt your household has the same last name as mine. You may also want to adjust various other settings, like lifespan durations, etc.

    And don't forget when you're playing to get your sim out and go places; go to a park, a restaurant, a cafe, a lounge, etc. The game runs different routines to make new sims to populate these places, as well as to fill the various service roles, if your game doesn't already have enough sims, so visiting various types of lots will help get sims in your worlds. Then you need to be patient, and give it some time. The routines for marriage, moving, etc. only run a few times a week, not every day (unless you edit those settings too)

    The mc_settings.cfg file can be found in whatever directory you have the mod in. Good luck!

    Do you have aging turned on? If you don't then things kind of stay where it is at for the most part, as far as new babies being produced.

    On the MCCC page, there is a tab that says Documentation, click on it, and go down to the one that talks about Population. Another good one to read up would be the one dealing with Pregnancy. It also goes into more details on Pregnancy and Marriage settings as well.

    Yes, when first getting started with MCCC it can be extremely confusing and stressful, at least it was for me.

    LOL That would be a disaster for me. I have two game saves. One is my Ancestral game save, and I have people from their time zone in My Library until I'm ready to place them. Can you imagine them showing up in my futuristic game save? Yikes!

    I think I'll populate the town, which so far hasn't been necessary, doing it manually. ;)

    @shanls96 Yes, those numbers are the exact number of days for the life stage IF you are playing with normal lifespans. If you play with short or long lifespans, it's a factor of those days instead ( 1/2 if you select short, x4 if you select long).

    If you want lifespans that are the game defaults, just change them in MCCC and click the 'default' button. I have them set just a little under double normal, because I feel normal is too short, but LONG is waaaay too long.

    I set them where my sims have enough time to actually have a social life and still get near the top of a career ladder before having children. And allow for them to be able to fully raise a few kids before they became elders. For my personal style of play, those settings are such that my sim's are usually turning elders shortly before their kids are having kids, making it perfect for me.
