How often do you play with pets in the household?

I will say though, that the pet sickness does bother me as well, and I really wish it was something that didn't happen to strays, and only rarely in a pet's life span. It's quite annoying. After the next patch, I'll be looking for a new mod that neutralizes that.
I have scenarios in my head that I think I could really get into. For example, if I had Seasons and Laundry Day, I'm picturing a homeless hippie couple with a medium/large dog complete with the bandana around it's neck.
Witches would increase my play with pets, because, well...familiars.
Farming would also open up possibilities depending on what came in it. I would have dogs to "guard" the livestock and of course a "mouser" to protect harvested crops.
I just prefer toddlers over pets. (Pets sound too needy, and I don’t like that I can’t control the pets.)

I actually disabled the pack because I don't want to see it, the pets remind me of the strays. Before I disabled it I didn't use BB after the initial sim to explore the world, I deleted all the preemades from that world and then ignored it.
It's a shame because it's quite different from the other world's with the beach setting but I can't help feeling bad with all the strays all over the place. Sick, dirty and usually hungry. It makes the game not fun and relaxing seeing it so I feel I wasted my money on the pack, but then there were strays in TS3 as well. Even though I don't remember any but a few wild horses near water.

Most single I tend to get them a pet often if they'r n ot really actively pursuing a relationship or anything with another, so they have a companion. Pets are really good for my loner sims. Its always neat watching sims walk by with their dogs in the city or out on the sidewalks.
I had to end up using a mod so that the strays about were not always sick. :< Usually I tend to shift click and click make happy to fill needs, but sometimes there's so many in the area I just decided to plop that mod in there so there would be. Luckily dogs can't die from starvation now even though older games had deaths for pets that were just as morbid for sims.
Had a sim that would just feed every animal it saw.
I do use them seldom but when I do it's fun to me because they belong in that story.
It's a shame.
Although sometimes I get the urge to adopt the poor wee souls wandering around in the cold. It pulls my heart strings every time
