Wishing well - is this supposed to happen?

One of my sims is level 9 in the Social Media career. He is an elder now and it takes forever to get promoted in the social media career (because they only work every other day and the hours are from 10am to 2pm). I want him to get to level 10 before he dies, but it doesn’t seem as though he will live that long as he’s 98 days old.

So, I had him ask for a promotion at the Wishing Well. He got a call from his boss say that, provided he had completed the daily task and met all promotion requirements, he was guaranteed a promotion the next time he went to work.

He had met all the promotion requirements, done the daily task, was in the idea, mood (playful) for his job, worked hard... And yet was not promoted the next time he went to work.

The reason why I have not posted this in the AHQ forum is because I don’t know whether it’s a bug or not. Maybe the well was trolling him? Maybe he wasn’t promoted because at the end of the work day his performance is only in the “good” range of the meter?

I'm not sure about the Wishing Well, because I don't own the stuff pack. But what I know, it can either granted the Sims wishes, or corrupted their wishes. But, I suspected that the performance is not at the excellence range of the meter. Have you changed his action either to work hard, socialise, etc. so that the work performance will change according to the time spent at work? Normally what I did to change the meter is to get my Sims to work hard, especially at the beginning of the working day then change to socialise then work, then socialise.. and I repeated it until the Sims feel tense :D . For my Sims, it helps to increase the work performance provided their mood is not affected.

Haven't used the well for a while, but yeah, sometimes things just don't work. Are you sure you have all the requirements including those 25 million followers? Sometimes choosing "work from home" and doing those tasks will get you to the top of the progress bar quicker.

Yes, he has all the requirements. The requirements are:
Have 25,000,000 followers (he has 37,748,560)
Reach level 8 charisma skill (he has been at level 10 for ages)
Reach level 7 comedy or mischief (he is at level 8 comedy and level 8 mischief)

He has never worked from home. Maybe I’ll try it.

Have you ever just considered that at level 10 charisma, he can just try calling his boss and asking for a promotion instead? It should be available as a phone option when you reach either lvl 8, 9, or 10 in Charisma. That's how I got one sim to end up becoming President of SimNation that way lol. No need for a silly old wishing well.

@paradiseplanet that was my first thought, but there’s no option to call his boss for a promotion on his phone. There’s only an option to “negotiate a bonus”. Maybe it’s because his boss is not in his relationship panel?

I think that is the option you're looking for? I know on mine it says 'Negotiate Promotion' and all the guides say it as that.

Other users on other forums say 'negotiate bonus' too, so it could be a difference in language. Try being in the best possible mood and at least have your career performance above average.

@paradiseplanet I just had him negotiate a bonus, but that did not give him a promotion, only a one time cash bonus and it also boosted his work performance by a bit.

I don’t see a negotiate promotion option anywhere. Just negotiate bonus. I’m thinking it’ll be because he doesn’t have his boss (or any of his coworkers) in his relationship panel as I never made him socialise with his coworkers. Next time he goes to work I’ll have him socialise with his coworkers and see if the option to call his boss for a promotion pops up afterward.

In other news, I got the pop up saying it’s almost his time. Noooooo!

I don't know, My Sim never had a boss for his career lol, and since Negotiate Promotion is supposed to appear for sims with max Charisma, and it doesn't for you, I reckon it must be a glitch or bug.

In fact, maybe both the wishing well and promotion calls are tied to the same system and are BOTH broken?

Well that’s a shame :( but at least he’s now a bit closer to that final promotion. I will see if socialising with his coworkers causes the option to appear. Or, maybe once he knows his boss he can “bump into him” and ask for the promotion face to face.

Come on Markus old man you can survive!

Could well be. The world is conspiring against Markus getting that deserved promotion!

The only time that wish outcome failed for me was when my sim was the tiniest bit slow getting out of the house so got a few seconds of 'late for work' flashes before he vanished. When I use negotiate a bonus, it only very rarely has given me a promotion, most of the time I just get bonus payment and a bit of extra work performance.

Interesting @simwolf I can’t remember but perhaps he was late getting out of the house. I did do some googling and it seems that if the well grants your sim’s wish for a promotion, they will not be promoted if they are in one of the City Living careers. My sim was in one of the CL careers (social media), so that’s probably why.

Oh, Markus never did live to see his final promotion :'(

@MaggieMarley Oh no, poor Markus. Interesting to hear that snippet about the CL careers. I very rarely play them so I'll bear that in mind. Thanks for the tip :)

the city living careers are my favorites, specifically because you can work from home with them (and gardening, but with the fact everything you do from gardening gives a whopping $10, it's not exactly as fun...). wondering if the coding for that is what actually gets in the way of the wishing well promotions

Old topic, but since it has been resurrected by now anyway...
When you get the "good" outcome from the wishing well (not the "great" outcome, that one would just promote him on the spot) it will max out his performance, but if he does anything to make it drop he won't get the promotion. Particularly if he got to work late or left early, or fell asleep at work, his performance is going to drop right at the end of the work day and he won't get his promotion. It could also be that he was in a foul mood during the day and it dropped his performance.

@Cupid I can’t think of anything that he might have done wrong. He went to work on time, in the right mood, completed all the promotion tasks and worked hard. So yeah, I dunno!
