Do housed sims get culled?

I just got done housing (and impregnating) I don’t even know how many couples (but it was many) with the hope of mixing up the gene pool a bit. In manage worlds I have all these households in “other households”, rather than “my households”, so I’m a little concerned that they could get culled. But, am I right in thinking that sims who are in houses will not be culled, even if they are not in my households?

I don’t want them in “my household” because there’s a limit to how many sims you can have in my households, I believe, and so I only want the households I play in there.

I think they can get culled. The only sims who are completely protected are the sims in the "my households" tab. You can change the amount that you put in your "my households" tab to unlimited if you run out of space. If you make it unlimited though then you have to be careful that your computer can handle it.

Yes, they do get culled.
You can change the limit if you want. My game still works fine even though I have 227 sims (even though my recommended limit is 150 sims). Just don't go over 400.

Oh drat. Why?! That’s ridiculous. Huh. Well, I shall have to add them all to my households. Thank you both for the heads up.

Ok another question. So, after adding all those new households to my households the game now says I have 134 sims in my households (I have it set to 150 max). There is a pregnant sim in each of the new households. Does the game count the unborn offspring of pregnant sims when calculating the number of sims in my households?

I’m worried that the babies will be born and then households in my households will be deleted because there are too many sims in there after the births.

I am a bit concerned about the idea of putting the max number of sims in my households to 200 in case my game slows down.

I could be wrong, but I think marking them as played prevents them from getting culled. So does changing the maximum Sim limit (in Settings) to “unlimited”. If you’re open to using mods, MC Command Center has its own culling system with more customizable options which you can optionally enable in place of EA’s default, as well as the option to flag individual Sims (including unplayed Sims) to not get culled.

Oh, I do have MCCC but I’ve not tried to change culling options in there. I will have a look at what options it has, thank you.

@foxx_fennec where is the option to customise culling in MCCC? Sorry, I can’t find it. All I can find is “bypass sim culling” which I don’t want to do. I’m sure it’s obvious and Im just missing it!

Huh, I thought there was some setting to bypass it for only certain groups in either Population or Cleaner, but I can’t find it either. Guess I was mistaken there. But it’s still possible to flag individual Sims not to be culled:

(From the Sim menu) Sim Flags... > MC Command Center > Flag to Never Cull

Sorry, but what does ‘culling’ mean please and what does it do? I have MCC mods and see this all the time, don’t dare play around with it lol

Culling is basically the game deleting sims to make room for newly generated ones.
Culling can also happen to relationships, meaning that the game will delete relationships to make the game run better.

Thank you @Jordyn78988 that is a great thread. Still can’t find an answer on whether unborn babies count towards my households total, but oh well. I was surprised to read that culled sims are supposed to still appear on family trees. They certainly don’t in my game!

Culled sims in family trees was probably changed this year. Have you had sims get culled recently that don't show up? It might depend on whether the family is played, but not sure. Would be nice to know for my rotational play.

When it comes to being protected from culling, I believe favouriting households is now the only way. You can always change the allowed number higher.

@luimistelija yes, culled sims are currently disappearing from family trees in my game. It seems only to happen in families which are unplayed, but it’s still annoying as my sims tend to marry townies.

Just in case this piece of info would be useful to anyone else: it turns out that if you have a household with a pregnant sim in it, her unborn child/ren do not count towards your total number of sims in “my households”. The sim count goes up once the baby is born.
