Scientist Career Track Plants

I have been going to the science career track now with my sims and no matter what i do the plants never need watering or grow at the science lab .
I have been going for over a sim year to make sure its not just because that are out of season
I am totally fed up of being unable to make the serums or water the plants as required
I have even tried deleting the plants and growing new ones and no luck whatsoever
