Prohibit Authentication Mail?

When I click on the mailbox on my sim's lot, I get an option to "Prohibit Authentication Mail." It can be turned off and on. What does this option do?

If you leave it on, some archaeology society thing will send you sometimes stuff to authenticate (archaeology skill obv) which will give you like 4000 simoleons if you do. If you turn it off, then they will stop sending you these authentication mails

Yep once your Archeology skill is high up (might be 7 or 8 can't remember) you start getting artifacts mailed to your sim at home. You can use the archeology table to authenticate these artifacts. After authenticating, if you click on the artifact there will be a "Mail Back Artifact" option. If you click this, the artifact will disappear and your Sim will earn money. I've earned anywhere from $3,400-4,800 each time. I get artifacts mailed to my sim about once a day.

Also, if you wanted to, you don't have to mail back the artifacts at all. You could sell them for much less than you'd get if you mailed them back OR you could just put them on a shelf somewhere.

Way cool. Now my future archaeologist needs to just finish growing up.

Like any other unauthenticated artifiact you dig up, the general form of the object but dark and featureless.
