My game auto-updated and as always, my mods were turned off. I turned them back on and restarted the game. When I opened the game, the menu was there but behind it was just a black screen. I could exit the game but if I clicked load or new game it would just freeze and I couldn't click anything else. After disabling mods again, it worked, so I assumed it was some broken cc or mods. I cleaned my mods folder of all the duplicated, broken and old cc. Went back into the game, the black screen is still there. Turning mods off is the only way to get the game to work. Of course that may seem like the problem fixed but I literally can't live without my cc and mods. I've repaired the game as well, so that doesn't help.

Move your mods folder to the desktop. Then start the game and a new mod folder will be generated. Edit the game. Then put your mods/CC back into the newly generated mods folder in the sims 4 folder one by one or in batches and testing the game after each one to see which is the cause of the problem. Put one item or batch in , test the game , take it out. Then test another one, to find the cause of the issue.
If you have a lot of mods/cc, use the 50/50 method. Put half of your mods/cc into the mods folder then start the game and see if the issue is still there. If the issue is not there, then you know that those items work okay with the game. Then you can test the other half of your cc/mods.
If the issue is still there with the first half, you will need to keep testing them to see what is causing the problem. Then you will need to test the second half of your cc/mods too.
