@friendsfan367 I was OK with tests if they were multiple choice but I had the WORST time with remembering things. So bad at memorization...
That is, unless you put the stuff to memorize to music. Then I was great! I still have all the books of the bible memorized. (I went to Lutheran grade school.)
I'm never sure what to think of tests. I can understand where you're coming from @friendsfan367, but it's more about the stressful environment to me and the fact that oftentimes you just have to say something you memorized by heart and forget afterwards. I think that's a bummer when the topic is so interesting! I might be weird that I rather write an essay than take a test on something x_x
I didn't know that @MadameLee ! Then again, I'm not really good at those special days. I don't even remember most holidays either from my home country (Germany) or from others
@Rainydayz179 I'm feeling better now. I'm still going to go to sleep early and hopefully I'll feel fine tomorrow. My actual migraine last night was pretty tame this time, but the after effects got surprisingly bad. Yeah, migraines are really not nice.
Just on break, I still have a few semesters to go until I'm finished with university. I just really don't like tests because they are mostly reproduction (like in school) so I'm happy to have my essays and papers now where I can write about stuff that really interests me - as long as it has something to do with linguistics or literature, at least
Hope you have a good break then! I was always terrible at tests because of my darned anxiety. I'd know everything but then blank out when it was test time. Glad that's over.
That is, unless you put the stuff to memorize to music. Then I was great! I still have all the books of the bible memorized. (I went to Lutheran grade school.)
I love memorizing stuff to music too! Also, catchy rhymes.
hey has anyone hear heard of the term "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon" or something like it? Well I'm starting to understand it using more recent stars (well 90s-now Disney stars). Well for instance Hillary Duff stared in a Disney Channel movie called Cadet Kelly one of her co-stars was (I believe) the older sister of Shia LaBeouf's character on Even Stevens, and he went on to do Holes movie and one of HIS co-stars (if you could call him a co-star since this actor's character was only in the first 5 mins of the movie) went on to co-star in a movie with Emma Watson.
On another also another co-star in Cadet Kelly, Shawn Ashmore, who appeared in X-men movies, and in one of them (X-men: Days of Future Past) Boo-Boo Stewart (currently known as Jay from Descendants) also appeared in and an older co-star of the X-men movies is Ian Mckellen who recently worked with Emma Watson on Beauty&the Beast the current movie.
@MadameLee That video was so funny! I've always found the 6 degrees of separation stuff pretty interesting too. I've never heard the Kevin Bacon one but there's other ones like you mentioned with the Disney thing.

Well I have a connection to Disney (Double Great Uncle Frank worked on Pinnichio movie) and some people think that might be why I'm attracted to Disney movies/information. I learned about 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon from Uncle John's Bathroom Readers but I couldn't quite get my head around it-but now I finally kind of "get" it just with stars of the 90s-present
@MadameLee Cool! Pinocchio is one of my favorite Disney movies

Hi, @jbestxoxo ! I'm glad you found this place. I hope you'll like it here.
Also thank you all who expressed concern over me. I'm doing much better now. I think I'll rest a bit more today too and keep away from the computer a bit more (after I've responded to these messages), though. It's still occasionally difficult to adjust my sight.
I personally don't like tests at school/university either. I don't feel like they're a good way to show that one has learned anything. It's just about memorising things. Sure, tests can be good if the questions require thinking and applying the information you've studied, but usually the tests I've come across are more about throwing up all the info one has crammed into one's head. I prefer essays and group projects (even presentations! despite my stage fright and shyness, I've actually learned to be quite comfortable in school presentation situations).

@Asaoyoru I have a huge SimSquish on him! He's just so... amazing. This chapter you posted yesterday, Ripu... Man! If it weren't so exciting, my heart would be in a thousand pieces!
@Pegasus143 I remember that laughing-to-oneself in TS2! I thought that was such an endearing animation! I've seen variations on it in TS3 and TS4, too, and it does seem to present a very internal state.
@Asaoyoru Don't you think that Gael and Sierra have really beautiful body awareness? Gael seems really physically centered--and Sierra's just got the whole package! She's one of those amazing, inspiring Sims! A role model!
@RipuAncestor I was thinking when I was reading this morning that Dewey and Novak have really good body awareness, natural and developed, for both of them. And Fate does, too, interestingly enough! So does Love, of course! And Tad has out-of-body awareness!
In my Sims, Sugar has incredible body awareness. She's very physical, being an Aries Moon, and I love to play her because she's so different from me in her physical-centeredness.
@jbestxoxo Welcome to the Fringe! I'm glad you're here!
And... I'm purposely NOT talking about tests! Oooh! Scary!
Oh, @Meggles - I'm going to be playing in a chamber group this fall! And they accept everybody! But even so, I'm already nervous about having to play for the coaches so they can see where to place me... I keep thinking maybe I should play something super easy, but if I play something easy and can't get a good sound, that's even worse than playing something challenging scratchy! I should as @Pegasus143 for tips!
@Rainydayz179 Thanks! And I get anxiety, too. Especially with phone calls and asking something from strangers. Or with my English.
@MadameLee That video was interesting! I've written papers on the comparisons between, for example Stanley Kubricks' Shining and Stephen King's book The Shining. Which is - in my opinion - one of the best "adaptations" if you can call it that, because all of the "errors" are actually deliberately placed.
Also Pinocchio! I like it, but it really scared me as a kid. Those children turning into donkeys, man.
@jbestxoxo Hi! Welcome to this thread! Glad to have you!
@RipuAncestor Simsquish is the right term, I think! I could write pages about why I like him so much. Such a round character
@CathyTea Now that you mention Gael and Sierra, I think so, too! Especially Sierra! You are right about how she's so inspiring, I think both of them are! Gael embraces his artistic side and Sierra ... she embraces everything!
@jbestxoxo Welcome! @Asaoyoru I was pretty scared by that Pinocchio scene too as a kid. @CathyTea I've never actually chosen my own audition material before, but whatever you play make sure you're comfortable with it and practice, practice, practice!
Oh, @Meggles - I'm going to be playing in a chamber group this fall! And they accept everybody! @CathyTea I've never actually chosen my own audition material before, but whatever you play make sure you're comfortable with it and practice, practice, practice!
Ah! @CathyTea you'll be so great and that sounds so fun!!! Is it more quartet/quintets or a "big" chamber group? Either way, fun!! I'll respond as if it's a quartet/quintet.
For me I always pick something that I am a) totally comfortable with and b) sound BEAUTIFUL on. My flute sound is my selling point so speedy passages are not my friend. AND if you chose something that was meant to be technical I would take it at the fastest tempo you could manage and sound CLEAN.
So yah, I totally agree with @Pegasus143 on feeling comfortable and practicing!!! Comfort is most important.
However, if you were placed in a group with more beginner-type folks it would be a great learning and growing experience for you, too! Or maybe if you were the best player you would play a piece that features you, oooo.
I had my re-audition for symphony chorus in May and, despite having the piece memorized, my nerves got the better of me and I forgot half the words. So embarrassing! They still let me in but my director knew my piece by heart so she was swaying and dancing along. Ohhhh, i am so embarrassed just thinking about it! I think I got in on sound, range, and because I was in before, haha!
@Asaoyoru I get major anxiety over phone calls too. Like I usually have to write down what I need to say before getting on the phone and even then I'm usually shaking like a leaf through the whole thing! Ugh.
@CathyTea@Pegasus143@Meggles I wish I had learned to play some instrument! I'd had piano lessons as a kid but have some weird thing about not being able to coordinate my left and right hands despite being able to type like a fiend with no problem. I've tried learning guitar several times but it just doesn't stick and I get frustrated and quit. Never had lessons though so that's probably why. I was in choir in high school and loved it. I love to sing but have lost most of my range since I haven't exercised my voice in many years.
Hopefully, I didn't miss anyone! Despite my total funk as far as having like no motivation to play Sims and get a darn chapter written I've come up with a new idea... but I'm not ready to talk about it yet 'cuz it's too far into the future. I think I may just have to force myself to play something today because despite not having much of a desire I also feel sad about not publishing any chapters lately. Does that make sense? I wonder if YouTubers have that problem? Like, they're expected to churn out content regularly but what if they're just not feeling it? I think in most cases my readers don't notice when I don't publish regularly but if they do it's not like there's a feature on blogs that they can like say something. They'd have to e-mail or Twitter me or something. <shrug> I have no idea why my brain is thinking about these things! Y'all have a good day. I'm on the fourth and last book of that gamer romance series I've been reading and hopefully once I finish that I can refocus my attention to other things!
@Rainydayz179 You can take all the time you need to publish, though I can understand the uncomfortable feeling that lack of motivation combined with the sadness of not updating causes. I feel that too if I haven't updated my stories in a while. Though I don't have intense changes in motivation, I'm still a very irregular updater, and the situation I just described tends to happen quite often. Though there was an incident when I pressured myself into publishing a chapter and then realised that it wasn't at all what I wanted from the story. So I took the chapter down and reworked it, and nowadays I'm finding it a bit more easy to focus on publishing only when I feel like the chapter I'm working on is ready.
I'm glad you've got a new idea! Ideas are nice!
Also I'm really anxious about calling people too! When I have to make a phone call to someone who isn't very close to me, I either have to start making the call right after I've decided to make it or then I end up walking around my house for at least half an hour with the phone in my hand before I dare to make the call.
@Asaoyoru I have a huge SimSquish on him! He's just so... amazing. This chapter you posted yesterday, Ripu... Man! If it weren't so exciting, my heart would be in a thousand pieces!

@CathyTea & @Asaoyoru Awww, you guyyyys. Thank you so much! Tad does have a fanclub, I guess. It's... I still find it difficult to wrap my head around that.
Thanks to your kind words, I decided to test my new Inktense colour pencils by drawing a pic of Tad for you guys and all the other Tad-fans out there:
Those flowers are probably flower-souls and not alive ones...
First of all, Sugar is so awesome! She is a very body-aware Sim.
Also yeah, Novak and Dewey are both pretty body-aware... so I guess that I was on the right track when I connected body awareness to martial arts, as they both have very strong martial arts backgrounds. And both of them have or have had jobs that basically have required them to be physically aware if they want to stay alive.
Fate and Love too, huh? I... didn't expect that. Though they are a bit more in the physical world than, say, Tad is. Also Tad is very much in his head or somewhere other than where his body is even as a Sim. He spaces out a lot and tends to stare blankly at people. For some reason, his animations sort of glitch out a bit more than average, so sometimes, when he's sitting at a table, he may hold conversations with others by just staring at them. This occasionally happens with other Sims too, but I've noticed that he does that more often than others. Or then I'm just noticing them more with him because I expect him to be like that. Though sometimes Tad exhibits incredible situational awareness, such as realising that Amelia has just been insulted by someone and is feeling upset. While she was at the front yard and he was indoors, somewhere near the back of the house. So he suddenly just walked across the house and outside just to give Amelia a hug. This all happened totally autonomously.

So many hugs and so much love to you @friendsfan367 . Such a time. You know, this is an experience that each of us go through--if we aren't the ones who are taken/leave first. So on the one hand, it's universal. And on the other hand, it's so very, very personal--like really, the most personal and individual thing we can experience.
I hope you find some switches and games you like and that help you feel like you're treating yourself in the best way!
I know nothing of switches. And next-to-nothing of games, aside from The Sims. I bet you have folks here you can run ideas past, though, right? All your geeky friends here? You can probably get LOTS of advice!
@friendsfan367 Lots of love and strength for you and your family.
@CathyTea put it better, but I figured I'd chime in.

Just wanna say... I think spamming is fine in this thread, especially, when you have multiple topics you want to bring up! I, personally, am from the old school of "One Topic Per Message" because it helps with replying and it helps me keep track of it all...
So... if I spam, that's likely why! Plus being Fan Of Spam!

First, what a lovely Tad drawing! Maybe they are dreams of flowers! Like he's got a dream of a heart!
And... That story about Tad in-game is amazing!
@Asaoyoru 's Sierra is also getting me back to thinking about Sims as digital individuals...
HUGE plot! I mean, gigantic! And, it's coming from the Sims and from the game...
So... a lot of the stories we write come from our imaginations... and a lot comes from the game and from the Sims themselves. And that's always something I wonder about.
I know that, probably for most of us, a lot of our writing is drawn from our close observations of our Sims... they show us who they are and "the lives they want to lead" and we pull our stories from there. And I also wonder about the two-way connection of imagination. In what ways do our imaginations infuse the game?
Certainly, we shape and shift the game-engine (the artificial intelligence of the game and of each and every Sim) through the choices we make. It is built on adaptive intelligence--so every single click we make influences the intelligence of the game. And so obviously that's a big part of how our imaginations infuse the game... but I wonder, too, about the energy of our imagination...
When I am in my most quantum-like perspectives, I think about the energy of our thoughts and imaginations interacting with the energy of the game and our Sims... on a very physical level, not even metaphysical. Well, if you've thought about this or have pursued these types of ideas, I'd love to hear your thoughts and insights!

Do you also play The Elder Scrolls Online? You can find me there as CathyTea, too!
