Also, I like the idea of responding to the person above you, but I tend to take hours to write posts, so by the time I'm ready to hit post there's probably going to be quite a few other posts after the one I'm replying to. Is that okay?

this is like @CathyTea said an alternative cafe which is more suited for the less noisy folks.
Hope's everyone has or will have a fine day..I had a doubly exhausting day today at Bible Camp I only got to sit down like twice outside of lunch time..but at least I didn't have to worry about dealing with dough.
I'm trying to find a bookish/nerdish blog title for a blog I'm planning on having my heiress JGO have as a teen. anyone have suggestions?

Yes, it'll be awesome for you to post here! This is really created for folks like us!
And it's fine if your reply takes hours and if so the person you say "hi" to is several posts back!
The idea, really, is just so that everyone gets acknowledged... I always hate the feeling, myself, of being unacknowledged in threads and of having others who post who are unacknowledged...
I think it's an introvert thing. We like the quiet hello, right?

@CathyTea Yes! I am glad I said something on the kindness bench now. The guidelines look great although I think it will take some practice and maybe some reminders at first for us to get into the groove of acknowledging the person posting before us. It's just not something we're used to doing and I'm sure it could quickly be forgotten.

i was more nervous today on the kindness bench thread because somethings i have no or little knowledge of so i didn't want to seem rude.

Hi, Sis! I thought your questions on the Kindness Bench today were respectfully asked. I find that often, when people bring something up, like bipolar or depression, it can be useful to ask respectfully, like you did, rather than to just ignore it. I think most people like opportunities to develop understanding, and that's what kind questions, like yours, can help create.
@LegacySims2017 No, dresser wasn't my error. Like I said, it was caused by toddler beds. It sounds like you do need to check cc though or contact deaderpool about it.
@CathyTea I agree with the guidelines, it really helps make sure no one is looked over or forgotten. The only time I don't necessarily "agree" with it is the scenario where someone posts while you're still typing, I know I would have anxiety if I didn't acknowledge the person that posted while I was typing. But they are guidelines after all
@MedleyMisty of course you're welcome to this thread! Everyone is welcome, and should feel welcome. Well not everyone...No harmful trolls or bullies in our little space. I'd have to spray them with Monster-Be-Gone.
@MadameLee I agree with friendsfan367 - The Nerds Guide to the Galaxy or a variation of it. Totally nerdy!
@Rainydayz179 I'm glad you mentioned something about it too. For the first time in a long time I feel excited about the forums lol. I don't feel apprehensive or scared to post.
@Friendsfan367 You asked it very politely and respectfully, and I was so happy to see someone genuinely curious about it.. I would've answered it too, but Rainy answered it perfectly and I didn't feel like I could add anything.
Hi! I agree that the conversation on Kindness Bench was respectful and insightful.
Also for the GIMP-users: I also use GIMP! I usually just resize the pics, sharpen them a bit and adjust the light levels, but sometimes I have to do a bit more. Especially lately when I've had to do so many "special effects". I've been especially fond of the basic brush tool lately.
Also @DreamsInPixels I agree that this should be a safe, welcoming environment. Monsters-Be-Gone indeed. And I'm glad you're feeling excited about the forums again.

1) Yeah, we can't help if someone cross-posts! And it's more like establishing a custom than having a rule... for example, I used to live on a little island in the Straits of Juan de Fuca (Lopez Island). It's about 19 miles long and one mile wide--my sister and her husband still live there! On that island, the custom is to wave to everyone you pass on the road! It's awesome! You feel like you belong instantly. So... that's sort of what I was thinking with that, "acknowledge the person before you." Sometimes, two cars might pass, so you might miss one while waving to the other... but usually the roads are so quiet, you'll just see one car at a time! Like that!
2) Yeah! I wanted to spell out what our community was for so that when we say, "Everyone is welcome," we know that what we mean is that "Everyone who agrees to this type of community is welcome..."
From what everyone's posted so far, it seems like this is sort of a "Compassion rules--we're kind friends" type of community, which is awesome. I mean, kindness and compassion have their own boundaries and expectations and conditions, which are awesome.
Like the yoga teacher of the video I practiced with tonight says, "We're tigers. We're nice tigers! We're kind tigers. And we're tigers. We can roar!"
Yeah! I like that!
3) Yay! That's SO much the goal, for us to create a place where we're not scared to post!
Whew! For my own mental and emotional and social health, I NEED a place like this, where I can be myself and be as silly, as kind, as understanding, as nutty, as obtuse, as oblivious, as confused, as sane, as healthy, as busy, and as everything as I am! I need a place where I can be too much and not enough!
A space where we can be however we are without worrying about others thinking we're... not what we should be.
Hi everyone! This thread is such a cool idea! I already loved the thought of it in the Kindness Bench.
Your storyidea sounds cool @DreamsInPixels! I always enjoy a good vampire story. I will definitely check it out once you decide to start it!
Body awareness and mindfulness is interesting. I was actually inspired by Levine (and others) when I created my character for my Build Newcrest, because she's very spiritual. I've found so many interesting things through my research for her.
That is SO cool that you know about Levine!
I just was turned onto him about six weeks ago (maybe less). I've gotten so much from his books already! I've been working with mindfulness for decades... I really enjoyed Eckhart Tolle's books because he describes it in a way that I can easily access. So, I felt like I'd developed a bit of a knack for tuning into my body by the time I started reading Levine.
It's been such a gift to be able to read his work! I must have been totally ready for it: it's really helping me renegotiate, release, and heal from some childhood trauma that came from sibling bullying.
My character Meadow (in the Pen Pal Project) is becoming a trauma specialist--she became interested in the field through one of her pen pals, as well as through her brother's girlfriend and her own adopted daughter's history. And I started writing her before I read Levine's work. Reading Levine has really changed the way I want her to be approaching her work as a trauma specialist! And... it's a direction that's really good for her character development, for she lives very much in her head, and the type of body awareness that Levine's Somatic Experiencing asks for will be super for her to develop!
It's funny--even as a Sim, it's possible to see how much "in her head" she is! And I wonder what will happen with this Sim (as a Sim) as I begin to play her in a way that encourages her to develop body awareness...
Interesting: her good friend and room-mate Mizuki Suzuki seems to have a high level of body awareness as a Sim... Hmmmm....
Question: What are your experiences with your Sims being "in their heads" and "in their bodies"? Do you have Sims who live in the present? Do you have Sims who live mostly in the past or mostly in the future?
How does this even happen? What particular coding can make us feel that some Sims live "in their heads," "in their bodies," in the here/now, in the past, or in the future?
@RipuAncestor Hi! How are you? Had any good saunas lately ? I had one stepping outside my office today... actually, more like a steam bath! But with the air conditioning SOOO cold inside (like silly cold), it felt great!
I'm... mostly okay. Feeling a bit disoriented because yesterday I had a migraine (it was a mild one, thankfully). So yesterday's sauna wasn't as good, since because of the migraine I didn't dare sit on the highest... bench? Sitting platform? Gaahhh, you English-speaking guys need more sauna words in your vocabulary. But otherwise my sauna-moments have been good.

I haven't read Levine, so I don't know about the exact kind of body awareness you're after, but I figured I'd say still something. I think so many of my Sims seem to be lost in their heads, laughing at some random things that only they seem to get and space out a lot and often don't seem to realise that they're doing it. I think it's the idle animations that make them seem like that a lot. Also their situational and social awareness is often pretty bad too. Well, Amelia Sprigg is a very socially perceptive and competent Sim, though I'm not sure about her body awareness either. She's clumsy, so that might indicate that she isn't all that aware of her body's limitations and dimensions, or that she too gets lost in her head a lot.
I would assume, though, that Sims with a high enough martial arts skill have a pretty high body awareness of some sorts, at least. Martial arts are a great way to learn about one's body's signals and subtle movements etc. Again, not sure if this is what you're after. I'd love to hear more about what Levine has to say about body awareness.
My Sims stories: The Fey of Life - fairytales in life are few and far between (Forum thread HERE) The Chrysanthemum Tango - a story about life, death, magic, and how to be a good landlady (Forum thread HERE) Forget-Me-Not - some things just refuse to stay buried; an Ambrosia Challenge story (Forum thread HERE)
@CathyTea and @RipuAncestor Love your enthusiasm and interest about body awareness and Levine! Just when you think there's nobody to gush over stuff like that you meet someone who enjoys it or is interested in it as much as me! I think @CathyTea might be better at explaining the concept, but I think you are on a great path with martial arts, @RipuAncestor! I know a little bit of karate due to doing that for a bit and it helped me loads through my preteen years leading into puberty. It really helps with when you're starting to feel awkward, so I think it could also be a very helpful tool in grounding yourself and appreciating your body, but also learning to know its limits. That's kind of the gist of body awareness to me. Also, to not be sorry to embody space and take space for yourself. Some people are so socially insecure (including myself) that they often feel like they are taking up a vacancy in the world of others or are just "allowed" and it's really great to be aware of your body and allow yourself to be someone unique.
That got a bit philosophical, sorry!
I hope I didn't forget anything or anyone. I'm a bit overexcited because today was my last day at university for the semester. Now there's one more test and term papers, but then I'm free Still, not having to attend anymore gives me sooo much freetime.
@Asaoyoru Not feeling like I should take up space is something that happens to me a lot... maybe I should read this book we're all discussing. @CathyTea Responding to your question-- there's one interaction I've noticed in sims 2 that has to do with this, which is "laugh softly". It usually comes up when a sim doesn't have anything else in their queue, but a lot of times I can't find an obvious (to me) reason why they're laughing. Usually I can tell whether they're reacting to something external or internal by how loud their laughter is-- if it's loud, then I can usually find an external source (like another sim farting), but if it's quiet then I chalk it up to an internal source (like a memory that now seems funny, even if it wasn't at the time).
@Asaoyoru Congrats on finishing your semester and being (almost) free! And thanks for clarifying some things about the body awareness -thing. That all IS really useful for an insecure person like me.
Also yay, karate! It's one of the loves of my life (through which I met one of the other loves of my life; my soon-to-be husband ). I've been doing karate since I was ten, and it's so great and has taught me a lot about myself.
@Pegasus143 Ooh, I don't remember that laugh softly thing from TS2. That's so cool!
Also sorry if my answers sound so short and clipped. My migraine's after effects got pretty bad and I shouldn't even be here, but I happened to notice these messages and wanted to respond right away. I'm typing this with my eyes mostly closed now. I think I'll go lie down again.

@RipuAncestor Hope your migraine is better! I hate them. Knock me out of commission.
@friendsfan367 I agree with everyone else, your question on the Kindness Bench yesterday was worded nicely. I usually only get offended when someone says something like when someone is being really moody or random that they're "acting bipolar" ... that sets me off.
@DreamsInPixels I'm glad you're feeling excited about the forums again! It is pretty exciting seeing posts for this thread.
@Asaoyoru Grats on last day at university. Is it the last day period or is it a break?
As to me, I'm still not really feeling much like being near the computer right now. Ugh. I'm on the third book of that gaming relationship romance book series I mentioned. I'll probably pop in again later today. Hopefully, I'll start feeling more normal tomorrow. I hate that I just started getting back into Simming after a few weeks break and I'm right back to avoiding the computer again. But, that's life! Take care all. *big hugs*
@Rainydayz179 I'm feeling better now. I'm still going to go to sleep early and hopefully I'll feel fine tomorrow. My actual migraine last night was pretty tame this time, but the after effects got surprisingly bad. Yeah, migraines are really not nice.
All the best for you!

I don't like the title "Nerdfighers Guide to the Galaxary" for JGO's blog because I never read guide to the Galxary

@MadameLee I can only recommend it! The book is funny and serious at the same time and has some great characters!
@Rainydayz179 Just on break, I still have a few semesters to go until I'm finished with university. I just really don't like tests because they are mostly reproduction (like in school) so I'm happy to have my essays and papers now where I can write about stuff that really interests me - as long as it has something to do with linguistics or literature, at least
@RipuAncestor Glad you're feeling better! I read your chapter earlier, btw. I might have fallen for Tad

the test are to find out how much you learned. i never minded tests but i 'm shy so i hate having to talk in front of people.
speaking of books..I don't know what its like in the U.S. (or in other parts of Canada) but in my part in school (presumably high but also elementary) kids who might be "offended" by a book (let's say "To Kill a Mockingbird") they get a different book to read. Well my Mom tried to do that with me (a Special Needs student) because she didn't want me to be uncomfortable with the story "Of Mice and Men" because of a special needs character in it. But I got stuck reading it anyway (so it kinds of sucks that black students might be able to have alternative arrangement and yet a Special Needs student couldn't-I much rather have been reading Frankenstein, or To Kill A Mockingbird-more popular classics. I did get uncomfortable w/ the movie).

Martial arts are a great way to learn about one's body's signals and subtle movements etc. Again, not sure if this is what you're after. I'd love to hear more about what Levine has to say about body awareness.

That got a bit philosophical, sorry!
I hope I didn't forget anything or anyone. I'm a bit overexcited because today was my last day at university for the semester. Now there's one more test and term papers, but then I'm free

Also yay, karate! It's one of the loves of my life (through which I met one of the other loves of my life; my soon-to-be husband

@CathyTea I like that: compassion rules.
*big hugs*

I don't like the title "Nerdfighers Guide to the Galaxary" for JGO's blog because I never read guide to the Galxary
neither have i but you wanted something nerrdy.and i heard about hitchickers guide to the galaxy while reading something else.
