Items sell for cheaper in Retail Store? What?!

So I just sold a 1.872 simoleons sturgeon for 171 simoleons in my retail store... The store had 50% markup. I don't get the point of retail stores when items sell for 10% of their original value! I don't think I'll use retail stores in the future, this is seriously disappointing.
