New Obsession

My sims have suddenly become interested in the wood work bench. They won't leave it alone. It has been in their home since the beginning. I had to force my founding sim to use it. They have also become more stubborn. I have to direct them over and over to do something I want them to do even if it is necessary to their well being, like use the toilet. It is difficult when I have several sims in the family. Anyone else noticed this?
