Okay, new PC never did happen. BUT, I'm putting the finishing touches on my bar as we speak (so to speak.) Had to make some compromises from my planned design, but I'm pretty happy with the results. Didn't come out as a dive so much as a den of vice and iniquity. I haven't even looked at the competition yet, so don't know what I'm up against. Won't check you all out until my entry is complete and submitted. That way I won't get all, "🐸🐸🐸🐸, why didn't I do that" on myself. It is what it is and I'm pretty pleased with it, allowing for the fact that I couldn't include content from expansions that refused to install on my Mac. That being said, I need to feed the cat then get the pics and lot uploaded and my details submitted. Wasn't allowing for the time difference! Yikes!

Splendid news Jude, I look forward to seeing the results of your efforts in the face of all that recalcitrant hardware!

Yeah, them timezones can be killer! I've been caught out more than once on a Steam sale! :( But you do still have 24 hours or so to go so hopefully ... :)

24 hours!?!??! I thought it was due today!!!!! Ugh! Well, it's done, and I'm submitting it as is. So, for better or for worse:

    Your name: Jude aka @JoeJude16
The name of your lot: Shoots and Scores
    A description:

Keeping to its roots in Prohibition, Shoots and Scores still runs illicit gaming in the exclusive basement, while running a *legitimate* sports bar as a cover. But even the customers watching the game upstairs can put a bet on the spread if they know who to ask.

Besides the usual foosball and pinball in the upper bar, the casino offers betting tables and slot machines, along with plenty of televisions to keep track of whatever games or races you have a vested interest in. Whatever charm is lacking upstairs is more than compensated for downstairs with classic style throughout, including a luxurious powder room for the ladies. Gents, not being so concerned with the finer things, have a slightly less elaborate facility.

If you're thirsty you can grab a drink at the bar, or if you need some nibbles you can order from the menu.
And in the case of a raid, just cut out through the kitchen and up the ladder into the hidden exit in the back woods.

An exterior shot: Plenty of trees and shrubs to hide the back escape from the casino. And, yes, the billboard is part of the property.
    QpL4LZ1.jpg

The "legitimate" bar. Decorated with sports memorabilia and featuring several televisions for watching whichever game you are following. Although in my testing, people don't stay up here long.
    PhdRYMY.jpg

The casino, with the dining and restrooms to the left. The lighting in the casino is a subdued shade of blue to keep the mood cool even when the action gets hot.
    T8T3Xp9.jpg

A reverse view, this time with a clearer view of the commercial kitchen featuring the It's Business Time Industrial Oven. A couple of the dining tables have been reserved with menus for those Sims who want to eat. A third table has been left, along with the seats at the bar, for those choosing to drink their calories.

I wasn't able to do everything I had designed, due to not being able to load a couple of EPs. You'll need to swap out the juice bars for real bars, and since I've never gotten to actually play Late Night, I don't know if I should have left room for a bar back area. Likewise, I wasn't sure about how/where to leave room for a piano. Although my musician Sim didn't hesitate to whip out his guitar and start performing between plays at the tables. At the last minute it occurred to me to include a wine cellar, but I've never played with that aspect of World Adventures and don't know how long it would take to stock a rack. Certainly more than the 24 hours I have left. I may add that in for my own personal use.

A couple things I had planned and simply couldn't get to work the way I wanted, all from fog emitters:
Rats: allegedly fog emitters can spawn rats. I thought I found the code, but couldn't see any results.
Smoke: I was hoping to make that ubiquitous cloud of smoke you get whenever you walk into a casino. I played with about a dozen commands, but just couldn't get the effect I was looking for. The other half of that would have required learning how to trigger fog emitters so that the cloud only existed if someone was in the room.

All in all it was a lot of fun, and not having access to all the packs I own challenged me to take different approaches to the ideas I'd originally had. Don't know how I stand against the other submissions, but I stand behind my little corner of sin, simple though it may be.

Hahahahaha! You sound like me, wanting to tweak it and tweak it and tweak it, until the very last minute! :D You gotta learn to go ahead and finish it, and not just keep fiddlin' with it. Trust me on this. :)

Fog emitters for rats? Now, why didn't I think of that? *slaps forehead* See? You're not the only one! :D; I also wish I had thought of it for cigarette smoke, but I didn't until I saw it in someone else's build. (sigh) Oh well.

ETA: I wanted to say, I really like the touch with the billboard next to the place. Gives it more of a seedy flair. (laughs) Your build DOES look more like a den of iniquity than a dive bar; it doesn't look so much run down, as it looks like some sort of smarmy proprietor wanting to draw in the shills. :)

ETA2: Btw, the download link was to a jpg file. I wanted to rec your build. Have you uploaded it yet?

OMG, I've just read two months' worth of posts in about an hour. My head may explode at any moment! Lots of great builds with lots of great back stories. I can't comment on anything specific right now because they kind of all blurred together.

Except, I totally loved the Bremen Town musicians and am totally gonna use them in one of my family park designs. I also love "fairy tales." For some reason I have an affinity for Baba Yaga lately and have an urge to find variants of her story.

And I LOVED Soap. Even if they did pull a fast one on me with the whole Billy Crystal he's gay, no he's straight bull$hit. Growing up gay sucked and it was nice in the first season to see a decent gay character on TV. But I guess it didn't go so well in the ratings, so they had to turn him straight. Cowards. Even still, every time someone says they are confused my response is, sometimes silently and sometimes out loud "Confused? You won't be, after this episode of Soap" For a tagline to hold up 40 years without re-runs is pretty impressive.

Finally, I will say it was curious to see so many of my original ideas used in other entries that never made it into my own. Some because I couldn't install content, and some just because I went in another direction. I opted for a smaller venue because my game has never generated more than a handful of visitors to any lot and I didn't want the place to be huge and vacant. I do two types of designs. Aesthetic designs and playable designs. This is one of the latter. I really am looking forward to getting Late Night installed and making this into an actual bar and playing it as it was intended to be played. But in the meantime I think I'll enjoy the gambling and running the restaurant. Once I can afford to buy it at least. My musician isn't nearly that successful yet.

Okay, I've reached my limit on the computer screen for the day. Can hardly see. Time to shut it down. Good luck all. I'd love to play everyone's entries, but I have like two EPs installed, so I doubt any of them would install properly. BTW, what does everyone mean by "rec'd"?

@JoeJude16 Most of us uploaded our builds to the exchange where you can click on 'recommend'.

Nice build. I love the idea of putting televisions for betting around, great idea. RATS from the fog emitters? Wow! Now that would be seedy! I've not heard of that.

ETA: The Soap show didn't go into reruns? I guess that's why I don't remember it. I watched the first episode on YouTube.

Top job, thank you Jude! :star:

The billboard is a very nice touch, adding a nicely dystopian 'Blade Runner' feel to the place.

So glad that you, and all the other entrants so far, have enjoyed creating all these wonderful lots and I must say, that going looking through them all I am learning so many new ways to enhance my own builds! Like rats, and fog spawners - they're brilliant, why have I never used fog spawners before?!??!? :anguished: I hope that you keep on building and contributing to the community.

    Anyway ...
Less than NINE HOURS to go!!

... any last minute entries? :)

TSR also has some nice CC pianos, but they install all their stuff as Sims3packs, which aren't so easy to remove if you want a CC free game. Everything at MTS is in package form, and all you need to do is remove that folder to remove that kind of CC. So, I prefer CC from MTS, because it's easier to remove if it becomes problematic.

@MiaSkywalker Did you know there's a tool at MTS that converts sims3packs to packages? Delphy's multi extractor or something like that.

I'm going back through all the posts looking for the other builds

@SjappielovePaul Love the feel of Sally's and the colors. And the flamingo lamp! I looked all over for that when I was building and couldn't find it. Was it in wall lamps? The wall in the gambling room is awesome while being appropriately seedy. Rec'd.

@Goulsquash Love the idea. Would you mind if I post some pics? I feel like your effort should be seen. Adrian will see it when he judges, of course, but I'm curious so others probably are too? Gave you a rec though.

Yes, actually, I do. :) Thanks for mentioning it in case I hadn't! I use it all the time, and if I've extracted files that are in a set (which will then get file names that are gibberish), I then use Sim3PE to compile them all into a single file with the same original name that the pack file had. It helps me keep things sorted, which makes my OCD very happy. :)

It's a bit of a PITA, though, because it's a process, which items from MTS aren't. Also, I've found that things from TSR tend to be more likely to cause conflicts, and to be bad CC. Particularly in the case of clothing, some of the creators at TSR categorize everything for all Sims, including toddlers and infants. It's extremely irritating, because then I get those monstrous stretch-babies in my game, and it takes time to sort out what CC is causing it. Almost inevitably it turns out to be something from TSR, or one of the sites like RoseSims. I have yet to encounter it with things from MTS. Then again, I don't tend to find clothing I'm as interested in at MTS, so maybe it's just a matter of the odds.

When I say conflicts, btw, I'm talking about how sometimes a bit of CC will cause something from one of the expansions, or the store, to not show up in the game. I've had that happen before, but never realized it until someone made something for one of my contests and used one of the store items I was missing, on their build, and it got replaced by something from base game. I had been a bit startled by it, and I asked her, and was flabbergasted to realize that the item she used didn't even show up for me. So, that's bad CC, too. But the clothing bad CC is worse, because of the monstrous stretch babies it can create. :(

So I was fortunate enough to be gifted The Lucky Simoleon (you know who you are <3), but I still don't think I'm going to be able to participate. :'( That's because my game is going nuts and I can't seem to hold onto Store content. It keeps randomly uninstalling from my game. So my lot would be filled with giant holes where it's missing numerous items. What the heck?! How is this even possible? Whhhyyy! :#

Anyone have any ideas? I still have about two hours!

And then my game crashed. Face/palm!

Awesome, there are indeed some great and generous Simmers out there who just love to gift.

It seems EA are playing with something at the moment, they've made some odd changes to the forums and I guess that might affect the old Sims 3 store site as well. :(

I'll check a bit later and if it is still troublesome I may extend the deadline by a couple of days in the hope that it settles down.

Alternatively, if you like, you can upload your build to another site, as @JoeJude16 has done, if the Exchange is being awkward try Mediafire or maybe ModTheSims?

No, no, @ajaxpost, I'm pretty sure it's ALL my ratchet system and not the site. But, in the middle of my panic, my choice of words didn't accurately convey the problem.

@JovialJoy - things will often uninstall from your game if you have a lot of stuff in your dccache files. I have a thread on how to keep things installed. It involves reinstalling everything from the store one dccache file at a time and moving out the completed ones so that the launcher can't split an install between two or more dccache files. When you finish installing your first dccache0.ebc file close to, but under 200MB or 204,800kb, you keep the first one numbered 0 and move it to a temp file. Then a new 0 file is created. You install stuff until you are close to 200MB again, then you rename that file to end with the next number up. You move it out to join the first and keep going. After about two dozen files (if you own the store and are installing everything), you'll be done and can renumber that file and move everything back in. When you've done this, SAVE it! It sounds complicated, but visit my thread (link in siggie). It's the only way to keep things from uninstalling.

Ohhhh... I really like it! I particularly like the homey look to the outside of it. I don't know that it's particularly "dive-bar-ish", but I like the way it looks. I can see putting this in one of the worlds I play. :)

Excellent, thank you @annasommer, sneaking a last-minute entry!

Another lovely example example of the "it looks nice from the outside ..." approach to the vice den. I'm seeing some nice decorative choices there so I am looking forward to exploring this new lot.

    Anyway, that's it folks!

Thank you all for creating so many amazing builds and giving me a real challenge in deciding a "winner"! :anguished:

It's going to take me a good few days to work through all of them, decide how well they fit my story requirements and pick the one I will use. Please be patient with me - I will keep you updated and announce the prizes as quickly as I can.

    Thank you! :)
