Aliens and skin tones?

So, it took me a while to really notice, but it seems like an alien with a custom skin, still passes on the generic green skin to their children, has anyone else noticed this? Is there anything that can be done about it? It feels like the kids only inherit color from an alien parent instead of the actual skin.
