Who's still playing the Sims 1 from time to time?

    We used to be able to add players houses to the game, I'm not 100% sure there is a way but hopefully someone will know.

    I do like building. I'm just not very good at it!

    @Goldbear86

    oh I am glad that house builds can be added to game because I defo know in the end I will want to do that, also when doing some research prior to installing the game first time the way heads and bodies are added as cc really freaked me out as I had never seen sims bodies so cut in half before lol
  • MidnightAuraMidnightAura Posts: 5,809 Member
    Well I'm guessing you can still add houses. You used to be able to download them, kind of like the gallery in 4. I've not tried downloading houses recently. You think I would download houses more as my building skills leave a lot to be desired lol

    I used to have Sims 1 bought for me by my uncle when I was a little kid at primary school and I freaked out the first time there was a fire lol. That was until I had to reinstall Windows some years later and lost all my families and mansions, and I cried really hard. And that put me off the Sims for a long time...
    Now all the disks are lost so I just went to download the whole thing and opens it to create some random sims, build some simple houses and watch the humour from time to time. The music, sounds and the graphic are so iconic and nostalgic it gets me into a days-long stream of playing every time lol. And surprisingly it still works with Windows 10 after I changed my laptop :smiley:
    If the next Windows make Sims 1 unplayable then I will keep with Windows 10 for my whole life just for Sims 1.

    I don't think there is going to be any further versions of windows. There will just be updates.

    I know what you mean though, when my husband got the sims 1 working on windows 10 I was so happy.

    Having the game sure did help my wedding planning stress!

    I've always said that as long as I can have sims 1 and 2 installed I will be happy.

    @Goldbear86

    I am a terrible builder so am always looking for builds to use in any series and as I have heard terrible things about 10 including frying some brand named laptops I will keep 7 for as long as possible then move on to 8.1 with a 7 interface app and finally when there is no other choice 10-)

    @Remiccino

    wow everyone is able to get their 1 series working on 10 and I cannot get decent graphics on 7-) I am going to reinstall the whole series back on my desktop today and see if I can get it to play and more importantly resolve the graphics issue I experienced before..I laughed when you said you freaked out when there was a fire as I also remember the first time I experienced that and had no clue how to save my sim ( different series) :)

    I just found a site with some builds and other bits and bobs have you seen this one before?

    I play The Sims 1 all the time. The Sims 1 may not have all the bells and whistles of the newer games, but what it lacks in flexibility it makes up for that in simplicity. Plus, the Sims 1 has the oh-so epic soundtrack by none other than Jerry Martin. I'm actually listening to the game's music files as I'm writing this post.

    I've been playing The Sims 1 since I was 8 years old, and there is still stuff I have yet to see in my 14 years of being a Simmer.

    OOh pics lovely look forward to that..I was going to try reinstalling my game on my desktop today until I told myself off because despite being angry re the time frame of this laptop delivery I could be putting myself through unnecessary hag when eventually ( If I have not died in the meantime-) will have the right laptop for the job that should play 1 smoothly and without too many issues so I watched a lets play on you tube and surfed some sims 1 sites to try and keep myself happy instead..

    What I cannot understand is my tech always comes to do a PC desktop upgrade within 3 days whenever I ask but for this laptop a 5 day delivery has turned into 15 days and every day I am getting more and more angry.. I will never ask him for anything to do with a laptop again..OK rant over :)

    Edit

    I don't know if you have seen the latest video re 4 city life and twitter feeds from the sim Gurus?

    You cannot build the apartments which is obviously upsetting creator players but does not bother me because I cannot build lol

    The Guru's response to remarks about the world being small have been rebuffed as they have stated it is a good sized world.

    It appears from reading the twitter feeds that up to 4 families can live in the apartment blocks ( rent only not buyable) that your own sims can visit however one feed says there is a loading screen and another stated your sims can go out the apartment block into the festival square without a loading screen so I don't know which comment is correct but if sims can freely roam around an apartment block and go out into the festival square without a loading screen that would be awesome...

    Your sims can give keys out to people they would like to visit

    the apartments have traits so the cheap apartment will have electrical problems ghosts and rodents yuk
    the arty penthouse will have other better traits and I quite like the idea of apartment traits..not sure if house traits will effect other builds/worlds..

    Oh dear I think I am beginning to like what I see with this xp lol

    @NewbieSimmer

    I started with 3 and have been working my way backwards after I got sims 2 UC and loved that I decided I wanted to experience 1 as well and bought the sims complete collection which did install on my 7 set up but I did not like the sims detail so played for a little while and then uninstalled until I had the money to buy a laptop just so I could play 1 with the right specs which should hopefully give me better graphics and you can see how that is going by the rant above :)

    I am dying to play this series and keep coming back to this thread to see if anything is being discussed and if there are pics to look at-)

    If you have been playing since you were 8 you must know oodles of stuff about the game however I agree you can play the game for years and still learn something new :)

    I still play The Sims 1. It has more charm than The Sims 3, and I never get bored.

    I slide back in occasionally when I'm feeling nostalgic. I got the Complete Collection at Goodwill for a quarter a while back so I just boot up that. They really shoved in as much as they possibly could back then haha.

    @SPARKY1922 I really hope you get your laptop sorted. I know how frustrating that is! I did watch the live stream and I'm looking forward to City Living. I do like some of the new features like giving people keys to your apartment, the karaoke machine and the bubble blower. I also like that you can leave neighbours notes on the bulletin board and the notes can change depending on your mood! A Guru on Twitter confirmed we have 30 lots in the new world.

    I never got to TS1 last night as my PC decided to do an update which took a while. I'm always scared one of these updates is going to cause problems with the sims 1-3. I am going to play one today as I want to work on my neighbourhood a little.

    @RadBagel I love the charm of the sims 1. I love the fact that the series has a dark sense of humour which I think started to disappear in later series.

    @makinmagic58 Yeah I think all the sims 1 expansions were done incredibly well. So much detail and effort went in.

    @Goldbear86

    yeah I get a little paranoid with upgrades and changes due to constant hag I have had with things lately-)

    I am dying to play I really am if there is no sign of this laptop next week I am asking for my money back as this is beyond the pale I will go buy one myself from somewhere else.. Have you ever been in that position where you are trying to ignore a situation that makes your blood boil and it keeps spilling over when you least expect it :)

    I hope for some pics today if you are able and have the time :)

    @SPARKY1922 That is awful about your laptop taking so long, by time you get it, the Sims 5 will be out! Sadly I have been there with my old PC when it was being repaired by a well known electronic shop. (Whose customer service was ridiculous but that's another story)

    As promised:

    I really miss this feature! I would love something like this in the later games!

    ]IMG_0799.jpg[/img]

    Also these!
    IMG_0798.jpg

    I miss the random phone calls :-(

    Some of them were creepy!

    This is my Sim Lila, (the one in the police officers uniform.)

    She is a Cadet. I didn't really plan on her going into that career but she got promoted and she really needs the simoleams as she's a single sim and her house is tiny.

    I took her downtown to try and meet some other sims in the neighbourhood as she missed the Welcome Wagon.

    She met one not in the "hood called Clifford.

    IMG_0800.jpgpic host[/img]

    She was surprisingly friendly t him and he reciprocated. She even flirted with him and he accepted. Which so far in my neighbourhood is a miracle!

    ]IMG_0801.jpg[/img]

    But then one kiss was too much and Clifford was not amused...

    oooooh @Goldbear86

    Thank you so much for posting those pics much appreciated I too like the balance sheet and I could never work out what those phone calls were all about apart from thinking they were creepy like everyone else seems to lol

    Great size pics by the way are you using a pic software program as I cannot even get my 2 pics as big as that..

    OMG that making friends and loosing them again seconds later is so frustrating same for trying to make romantic relationships. I am sure there are not too many Clifford's in the real world that would be so angry at that kiss :)

    If I remember rightly I think the first ever family I made in CAS I thought they were married but they would not sleep in the same bed and it took me a long time ( more than it should have ) before I realized they were not actually married and I had to build up a relationship first which seemed to take forever-)

    You are welcome!

    The relationships are frustrating, in a way they are realistic- I feel romance was really easy in later iterations. That being said i was quite surprised Lilas attempts at flirting was received, normally if I initiate flirting when the relationship bar is under 30 it's a flat rejection.
    She is outgoing and playful which helps I think. When I invited Clifford round a day later they became friends. Whenever he comes around he brings her flowers and fruitcake so I figure he likes her. I'm not too bothered if they become romantic or not. Right now he's just a Sim to keep her social bar filled ;)

    One thing I've remembered that frustrated me about the game is the sims really really care about their environment. I couldn't work out why my sim went from having 3 green bars at the front door and somewhere between there and the carpool she would drop down to one green motive bar. Then I realised it was because there was a pee puddle by one of the dogs that hang around her lot. The puddle is on the edge of the lot and I couldn't see it zoomed in, that's what was dropping her motives!

    She got fired from being a Cadet because she missed work two days in a row. Lila is now a ticket collector in the circus. I love the sims 1 careers!

    The relationships or lack of in CAS is frustrating, it's hard when you start a family because while you can pretend two sims are together it's quite hard to get them together. I've not got any kids in my current neighbourhood as I'm just taking my time and hopefully we will get some born in game.

    In some ways because sims don't age it's nice to relax without worrying about running out of time to have career and children which is a struggle I have with the sims 2. It's the hardest game of the series but i like the challenge, nothing is handed to you on a plate.

    Believe it or not those pics were taken with my iPad. I just uploaded them as the quality was better than the screen shot as the image was bigger.

    @Goldbear86

    Lol I am not sure how loosing body parts equates to having better charisma-)

    Its obvious looking at series 1 that every series since has had a lot of stuff taken out for one reason or another... and while I don't mind tasks within the game I want to be able to play as I like without unlocking this and that and without having to use a mod if I choose-)

    I thought watching out for things going wrong when I took my eye of the ball in 2 was difficult to begin with but 1 looks a whole lot worse on that score-)

    poor Clifford the social slave , that's another thing on one of the lets play's I was watching they said there wasn't enough sims to make friends with when trying to fulfill job requirement relationships..

    An animal puddle caused so much of an environment drop wow I would probably not notice it in-front of the lot never mind at the outer edges :)

    Yeah I think its a bit of a bummer that sims cannot be married status in CAS it would make things a lot easier-)

    My Sims never age unless I want them to in any series I really get used to the sims/families I like to play and dislike giving them up, I have tons of saves of 3 games with my fav families..

    that's a great pic from an iPad and better than the games ones don't you think?

  • MidnightAuraMidnightAura Posts: 5,809 Member
    Lol @SPARKY1922

    I must admit when that pop up came up, I was thinking what the heck? That's a bit dark! I imagine the charisma point came if she managed to talk the situation down. But I've played too much GTA and seen too many movies and I've not seen many shoot outs resolved with words. But hey ho. :p

    I don't like my sims aging either. If I like them that is. My legacy founder in the sims 2 is now an elder and I'm feeling a little sad at the thought of losing her. (I cannot WAIT to send her eldest two boys to the sim bin, I'm not attached to them at all, they are extremely grouchy and sloppy and its not my favourite combination in a large household.

    I don't think I've ever lost a sim in the sims 3 to death because I don't stick around with the family long enough. I love the world, its beautiful but my sims themselves I'm not keen on the looks on. My Sims 3 Legacy Founder had three boys and they are exact carbon copies of each other in facial features. There isn't one feature that's different and that really bothers me. (I don't use cc) I do wish they looked a little less "pudding like"

    That's one of the reasons I do like the Sims 1 because I know my Sims wont die of old age. They may die of other things if I'm not careful but I'm not thinking about time with them.

    I was actually pleasantly surprised when I took Lila downtown, the lot had lots of sims on there.
    I'm needing to build up my neighbourhood as I have a Sim in the Superstar Career and her social is always low. She has a room mate and they border on being friends but her roommate is in Politics so works long hours and when she comes home she is too tired to socialise. I'm hoping if I build my neighbourhood she can meet the neighbours and keep her social need up since her roommate isn't really helping.

    I'm not a big fan of the Environment score in the Sims 1, they are sooo fussy. Particularly about their gardens. My Sim would get a negative "room" score when standing in her garden as there was no trees or plants. I gave her some flowers and planted a tree and She is still not totally satisfied. She cant afford a fountain or anything too expensive. If it weren't for the fact this impacts on her mood so bad I wouldn't be too bothered.

    @Goldbear86

    Yeah the humor is much better in 1&2 when political correctness had not overtaken the world and everyone realized hey this is just a game lol

    I have also gotten frustrated in many series looking for why the environment bar has dropped what a waste of time-)

    When I started playing 2 I loved the way sims either like, dislike or try just try to get on with one another and the facial expressions/body language that go with it and while those relationships can be worked on there is no way those sims are just going to forget their dislikes towards each other instantly.. much more realistic :)

    I mean the fact that we are discussing sims and their behaviors in game is really something because if we were talking about other series I doubt we would be having the same discussion-)

    I love the downtown and superstar areas in 1 I mean what a laugh exactly how its meant to be, I loved NPC ice cream stand and the sweet shop wow imagine browsing around there for hours-)

    I started using mods and CC when the 3 series came to an end and sims can be made to look much better with CC but I think sims 2 sims with CC look stunning I am hoping to achieve some sort of good looking sim when I get to play 1 and ;earn how to play as amazingly there are quite a few sims 1 sites still going out there.

    here is one of my fav teen vamps but other 3 players who have really learned the art of face and body sliders do a lot better than me-)

    one_of_my_fav_teen_vamp_sims.jpgfree image upload

    sims 2 Dina Caliente just one of my many remakes of her-)

    Wow they are amazing! I do think cc makes a huge difference to sims in 3. It helps them look unique. It's one of my biggest bug bears the way they look. I know I play the sims 1 but I'm used to those sims looking they way they do and the limitations. For me the gameplay more than makes up for it.

    I do use a little bit of cc skin tones in the sims 2, I think the only reason I haven't started adding cc in 3 is I'm scared to mess my game up. Touch wood my sims 3 game runs well.

    I love the sims 2 the most. If I could only have one Sims game on my PC it would be that one every time. I can waste so much time in it.
  • SPARKY1922SPARKY1922 Posts: 5,965 Member
    @Goldbear86

    If you ever want to add CC to sims 3 I can help you with that and the one good thing about 3 CC is it can be run through player made apps to check if its okay prior to use..

    With Dina in 2 I could have made her look totally different but I was trying to retain some of her own unique look from the game..

    my biggest problem coming from 3 is that I want my 2 hoods and sims to look as nice as I have been able to do with my 3 game however although I love 2 game play I will get into game and then start noticing things I want to change so I will go off to do that then come back to play and then it will happen all over again and it takes me ages to fix those things I don't like as I am a crap builder with hardly any creative vision-)

    I know for a fact I will be the same when I get 1 eventually :)
  • MidnightAuraMidnightAura Posts: 5,809 Member
    @SPARKY1922 oh thank you! That would be helpful.

    I do like the world itself in 3, the water looks amazing. My legacy is in Twinbrook I think? My other save file is in Bridgeport. I love how pretty the world looks.

    I think my biggest challenge with the sims 3 other than my sims looks is the fact I don't like playing rotational as my sims can do things I don't want them to too when I'm not playing them like marriage and children and changing career. Sometimes I turn aging off.

    The world may not look as good in 2 but I think the game looks good considering it's age. Also the programme to force the game to recognise your graphics card is a must for me. My husband seen it and he was really impressed with how good the game looks. Again I like the vacation lots in particular as they are so pretty. I do have a little cc and I do use a few mods on one of my saves. I just love being able to be 100% creative in TS2. I love the fact we can build an entire neighbourhood from the ground up, we can build universities and community lots, build and run our own businesses, build vacation lots. It's just amazing. Granted I'm not the best at building. I spent 45 minutes upgrading my legacy house. It looks ok but I think it could be better.

    I love playing rotational and I know some people hate that style but I think the sims 2 and 1 cater to that the best.
  • SPARKY1922SPARKY1922 Posts: 5,965 Member
    @Goldbear86

    I agree re families moving on in 3 when you are not playing them so make sure you turn story progression off in game options and just before you leave the family you are playing turn free will off for each sim and see if that helps slow it down...

    The other way I have got round this because I play with extra story progression mods is to make many Bridgeport world saves with one playable family in each one and only play that one family in that Bridgeport. The bug bear of course is that every time you make a new world for one family the lots need changing to your own liking as well however I have lots saved that I like to use in every world so its simply a matter of bulldozing what I don't want and placing the lots down that are to my own liking so it does not take long anymore..

    I am a crap builder and not great at creating great hood scenery however I keep trying because I want my 2 game to be as perfect as I can possibly make it and although it's taking me some time to get there I will be so proud of it in the end..

    I hated playing rotational when I first started with 2 and it took me a long time to get used to it but now I am used to it I love it as I can do so much more and have more time to play all the families I have created and like ..
