New Computer Shopping

Hello :)

I hate to say it, but my computer kicked the bucket :( So I'm trying to look into what the modern spec equivalents would be (since if I walk into the store asking for computer with specs from 2010 I will walk out with garbage.) but I can't find anything recent, or if I do it's all just "will this run".

So what should I be looking for? If I want this game to look fancy-pants and be spiffy, are there brands to look for? Avoid? How much RAM will I want? Should I be looking for dual-core, quad-core, 50 bazillion-core?

Thank you so much in advance, I showed my boyfriend the specs and his response was "Any bucket can run this!" so I need outside help XD

Are you looking for a laptop or desktop? Desktops are stronger and cheaper also upgradable. A lot of people think sims can run on a toaster but that's not true and the game becomes more demanding with packs, dlc, and even patches. It would be helpful to know what country you are in and what your budget is.
    For desktop specs

    Processor 2.4 Ghz or better

Video Card GTX 950 or 960 or AMD R9 380

    computer ram 8gb

hard drive space at least 500 gb

    windows 64 bit

    For laptop specs

Video card : Nvidia GTX 960m or better

Processor : i7 HQ or MQ quad

    computer ram 8gb

hard drive space at least 500 gb

    windows 64 bit

I would suggest a desktop, what country are you in and what's your budget?
(didn't realize simasaurus already asked) :p
    i7 6700K
    16GB hyper X fury
    MSI GTX 1080
    MSI gaming M5 mobo
    Evga 750 supernova
    Corsair hydro h110i GT
    Corsair obsidian 750D
    500GB SSD
    6TB Seagate Barracuda Pro
    LG 34" ultra wide

Definitely a desktop, I'm in Canada and as far as budget, I'd say 700-800 but not opposed to going over if it's the difference between an actually good computer or just mediocre. Keep in mind thats just a tower, my monitor is thankfully still okay :)

    Thank you both for helping!

The first one has a better video card and processor

If you can go over this would be the best choice. Has a new intel skylake processor while the others above are AMD http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883230104&cm_re=gtx_950_desktop-_-83-230-104-_-Product

Would that be something they would sell in physical stores as well? My credit card limit unfortunately is 500 and Visa Debit isnt a thing in my neck of the woods yet :disappointed:

Edit: I was able to find this on Staples.ca (They allow you to purchase online things directly in store and just pay in-store)
    http://www.staples.ca/en/CyberPower-PC-Gamer-Xtreme-Gaming-Computer-3-3GHz-Intel-i5-6600-8GB-RAM-2TB-HDD-English-GXI810-/product_1926308_2-CA_1_20001
As far as I can tell (but that's not saying much) it's very similar? Would it work?

    Or there's this one: http://www.staples.ca/en/iBUYPOWER-Gaming-Desktop-2-80GHz-Intel-Core-i5-6402P-8GB-RAM-1TB-HDD-128GB-SSD-English-CA210BL-/product_2262688_2-CA_1_20001

it has a lesser processor, would it still be good or is the difference worth the $200?

Unfortunately your Staples in Canada does not work for us here in the USA . I can't read the specs or see the cases for these computers. It is very important that you have a case with good air flow and fans. Also room for upgrades or replacement hardware in the future

If you can post make and model numbers for the PC's you posted I may be able to find the exact specs

@phoebebebe13 If you google Canada postal codes, you can view the pages. Some of the info is also in the link.

edit: right-click > open image in new tab or click to view bigger.

    I got it Thanks!!!

Those you posted will both run the game but if you want to spend that kind of money you can get more computer for your money newegg Canada. I was trying to stay within your budget but if your willing to go $1,200 to $1,300

This have a better video card and more ram

    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883230096&cm_re=gtx_960_desktop-_-83-230-096-_-Product

This has a better, processor , video card, Two hard drives on being a larger 250 gb ssd, more ram.
Im not sure if they are selling you the hardware to put together a computer or they put the PC together for you. If they put the PC together for you this offers much more than the other computers . You would have to contact newegg

@Simasaurus09 thanks for helping with the links!

@phoebebebe13 thank you for being more concious of my budget than I am XD I took all of the specs from the various computers and went out around town, I managed to find an Asus quad-core with Intel 6 and a nvidea (sp?) pro 950 graphics for 900 (on sale). It's got 8 gb ram and a 3.6 processor. Those all seem to be things across the board on all the computers so it caught my interest.

The specs sound fine but what does the case look like? What model Asus? Some pre-made computers do not have good cooling in the case. You might have trouble with heating or upgrading in the future. You want to make sure you have a case with room, good cooling. The more fans the better.

I believe it's the gII model? I'll see if I can find an online listing as this was just in store :)

    https://www.amazon.com/G11CD-US007T-Gaming-Desktop-Nvidia-GTX970/dp/B016E80RFO

Different specs I believe for this listing, but the case looks identical.

The computers model number should be listed on a sticker somewhere or you can pull it up by start menu > right-click this pc > properties > and then it should be listed under system. If that is the same case, I can't tell if it has front fans. The case still looks roomy for air flow and some reviews say they bought it for intended upgrades in the future. So I'd say you should be fine and if you ever upgrade it later on down the road, shouldn't be too much of an issue. If you can manage to dig up the model number, post it.

It is a little bit smaller than some mid towers. I know phoebebe doesn't agree but your system as is shouldn't generate too much heat.

That case is really not that great with cooling or upgrades.

Canada charges a lot more for computers than they do here. People who build computers buy from Newegg all the time. They are a reputable company. They charge no tax in most states here in the USA. Not sure about Canada and tax but Newegg will give you more hardware for your money.

Intel is better than AMD on processor but both will get the job done . You need better cooling with AMD. They will run hotter. Intel is more expensive than AMD. All three of these will run the game. All have Nvidia GTX 950 cards

The link was just for reference about the case, I'm not planning on buying from Amazon.

Canada as a rule is more expensive cause we're importing everything from the US, and I believe (atleast in my province) tax is mandatory unless it's food or clothing.

I'm going to see if my boyfriend will let me use his card for newegg (cause my credit limit is too low for anything cool), and if not, ill have the Asus as my back up plan.

Thank you both so much for your help! :)

    Your welcome.

I also think it would be more expensive for you to buy here and import rather than a store importing to Canada in bulk .You can try that route of buying here and importing but you should contact your government to see what they would charge
