Friezes and Exterior Trims with Stairwells - Changed?

I am not sure when this occurred but I would like to know why and how I can fix it. I worked really hard to create interior stairwells and vaulted ceilings without exterior trims in them in a few of my builds, and now with whatever update there are exterior trims and friezes on the inside of my buildings that I can not get rid of without obliterating all of it, on the outside. Granted I had to do some orderly building to get them to not appear on the inside in the first place but it worked and I was pleased, everything looked as it should with interior multistory stairwells properly fenced and exterior trims in their place - on the outside.

I am now not pleased. There are friezes everywhere. That's cold man, cold.

Is anyone else having this issue and how do you get around it to restore your stairwells while retaining the finishing touches to your exteriors?

Oh so it wasn't just me doing something stupid! I was totally stumped by this happening and ended up having to change the design of my house to stop it.

It seems to depend on how the game defines a complete room and where the boundaries lie.

The answer to my question was how I was applying the friezes in the linked thread courtesy of @sawdust . I was just applying them to the outside willy nilly instead of applying them one wall at a time by holding the shift key. Now that I know how to properly apply a frieze and trim to a selected area, my builds have been restored to their former glory and awesomeness.

Holding the shift key makes a difference? I'll have to try it out.

I can't make anything different happen by holding my shift key, it still places room-by-room for me either way

@IngeJones For me when I hold the shift key I dont see anything until I click that wall and then let go, for me the only time the frieze shows before it applies is if its doing the whole room.

The other instance is if there is no break in the walls, then yes it will span w/e wall you are clicking on, in which case I just go inside make a quick false room, place trim then delete room (the trim will stay put) to get the frieze to stop where I want.

But you should at least be able to do one side of a room at time.
