I don't remember, but are there holiday recipes during the holiday periods?
e.g. Spooky foods for Halloween, Festive foods for Christmas, etc?
I recall seeing something last Halloween when playing my game and opening the fridge to cook something.

I hope so (for story purposes).
There are no times of year in this game, so I'd venture to say no. But, I don't have the Halloween pack. There were no special foods with the free Christmas stuff. The only "seasonal" food I've noticed were those day of the dead cookies.
I haven't even looked or tried yet on how much it's going to cost. I want to surprise myself and then add it as part of the story. I see you wanted to save up 50k for Jonathan's first restaurant.

Yeah, I don't build much, so I'm downloading all of his restaurants. The lot I wanted was like 60k...I don't remember exactly. They already had like 20k in their account, so I wanted him to save enough to still have money to cover their bills without it being a stretch and have a small budget for salary and training so the staff could get up to snuff quickly.
I'll probably download one as well and then upgrade it to my liking. Or I may try and build one. I don't know yet.
The Pancakes have about 22k saved up right now.
Bob's the only one working right now and Eliza likes to spend it. It might be time for Eliza to get a job during their under construction time. Next chapter they will go lot hunting.

I keep telling myself I should build one, but nope LOL. I only build things out of necessity. I'm not as terrible at building as I say, but I don't like having to furnish builds lol. #laziness The closest I'm going to get to building something is Jonathan's next restaurant. It's a house I remodeled and turned into a restaurant. It's going to be in Willow Creek (which I just now realized is perfect for the next bit of plot in the family) and I wanted it to fit the neighborhood. So, I thought a restaurant that looks like a house would do.
Hey folks! I've been having technical issues as of late, but I'm finally back in business! I've been playing the heck out of this save because I'm soooooooo happy about the bug being fixed!! I recap, I no longer use the organic GMO ingredients (I'm using the middle grade one simply because Jonathan mentioned something in the story one time about fresh ingredients lol) and I changed Tiana's cooking speed to normal. Meals are flying out of the kitchen and are all of excellent quality just like they should be, customers are happy, the restaurant is retaining its five-star rating with no problem, AND the profits are much higher! They're still not in a place to take a salary from the restaurant yet, but soon!
However, because of the unexpected pregnancy and stuff going on in the family side of the story, we're still not ready for restaurant #2 lol. I feel like I'll never open that second restaurant while Jonathan is alive. Oh well. At least we know Aubrey will carry the torch!
I've been looking for a challenge just like this. Though I think I'll turn it into a legacy challenge like I did with the restaurant challenge I did for Sims 3. Generation One was played similar to the stories of many hard working immigrants. Came with nothing and worked their fingers to the bone to provide a good education for their child who followed in his father's footsteps. The child expands the restaurant empire instead of the founders. Continue until they own everything restaurant related :)

So, I think I understood correctly that employees cannot be playable sims, correct?
If correct, would it work if I added sims from the gallery and put them in the not in world area? As long as I don't "play" them?
I ask because I did a casting call for the construction crew who would build the restaurant in my story and now I would like to perhaps do a casting call for potential chefs, waiters, and hosts.
