I'm thinking how it would be cool to have archaeology in the sims. Dig sites of varying size could randomly appear in lots over time - perhaps with a limit on how long they're available to dig, then any items over them would need to be moved and sims can dig there. Items could be found which vary in rarity and can be displayed at home or in museums, as well as some junk items. It would be interesting and random, and would encourage archaeologist sims to visit other lots and meet other sims. Other sims on the lot could come to view the dig site. You could find castle ruins, ancient ruins, or dinosaurs, things like that.

I also think it would be a good career with goals. Dig so many sites and find so many items of varying interest. It has a good element of randomness in it, but how can sims influence their success other than just keep digging? Mood would probably be the main thing, with different moodlets affecting speed and outcome - much like it does with writing. Maybe we could also make choices between options (for example which site to dig, or how to dig the site) given various probabilities of success or specific outcome - the accuracy of which is linked to their skill level and mood. Maybe time limits to finish digging the site in, making it more important to keep sims in the right mood so they explore it as much as possible. Sims could also write papers about archaeology for income - the two sides that creates would make for an interesting challenge.
Oh, and and NPC archaeologist would be fun.
Tying in with the archaeology skill, having more detailed museums would be great... The current museums in the game are kind of boring and and function more as an art gallery...
May be there can be a natural history museum in the game... And players can sell rare collectibles found in their exploration to the museum and so on...
