    @lisamwitt
The career rewards are available to the Sim when they reach level 5 of their career.
When I started playing, I too, used to think it was when they topped their career that they became available and only discovered this when playing Don Lothario that it was not the case. I couldn't find a Slacker job for a good few days, so he had to go to work in the Medicine Career. When a chance card showed up, he got promoted. It wasn't until I looked through the career rewards to find out what you get for a Slacker, I found that the surgeon table was available to him. :)

I thought most were available at level 6 in the Careers. . . I need to pay better attention, it's been a long time since I did.

I have never had this fear before - "being yelled at" - if only they knew how many players yell at them! :)

Had a sim die of a natural death (old age) for the first time since I started playing again after all these years!

Apparently Grim comes with two hula girls? Those are her wife and son crying. It looks like one of the girls are trying to comfort the wife :joy:

Then she got a bag and left. It's pretty cool how different the death in this game is from the other ones!

Also -- insurance?! Yes please! I wonder why her first child got more money than her second child, though? :flushed:

The dog she got the day she moved in died the very same day. I didn't snap pictures but Grim played fetch with him and then the dog left with him.

How much money you inherit is dependent on the relationship score you have. I always do some major schmoozing when they get old. Lol.
You only get the drink and hula girls if your elder has platinum when they die. If they don't you just get Grim by himself.

There's an option on the Neighborhood and Uni Neighborhood UI which will let you add more than 1 teen in a household to Uni.

I keep reading that people had to send 1 Sim to Uni at a time- I'm guessing on the phone on the home lot. Well,, once the teens have called and received their scholarships on the phone and you want to send 2 sisters/brothers/friends together- save and go to the neighborhood and use the Icon on the Uni to send teens in groups. All teens will be listed and we just have to choose them and name the household. :)

Here are my discoveries, not sure if they've been mentioned but oh well if they have :)

If you have a bonfire sims can do a bonfire dance.
If you take a vacation each destination has it's own dance which you can learn at any lot with a stereo when the locals dance.
At takemizu village your sim can learn Tai Chi from the locals.
If your sims are engaged they can book a honeymoon than get married and the cab will come get them but careful if your throwing a wedding party though cause the cab will come the moment your sims tie the knot.
I did see mention of santa but thought i'd mention father time is in-game as well, if you throw a new year's party father time will come.
If you take pictures while on vacation or just in the neighborhood you can order a photo album or a print to have in your sims home.

I'm assuming most people already know this, but on the off chance any players don't. Keep an eye out for Bella in Strangetown. She randomly appears walking down the street or on community lots. Seems she ended up there with no memories after disappearing from Pleasantview. It's fun to speculate on what happened.

I like to imagine Bella Goth was on the crashed spaceship near the Beaker home on Tesla Court and somehow survived and was air lifted in the balloon that you see floating around Strangetown... :)

I always figured she was abducted because of the telescope, last seen on Don's roof stuff. But I never thought about her being in the crashed ship by the Beakers! I like that.

The Caliente Sisters set her up to be abducted and taken away so one of them could win Mortimer and have all his money when he mysteriously dies. . . the space ship crashed and she survived but lost her memories. That's how she got there. ;)

I just discovered something I wasn't aware of when I was playing Lilith Pleasant at college. ;)
It was late afternoon (about 4pm) and Lilith had just returned to Landgrabb Dorms from her final exam and was rather tired, so I thought I would let her have a nap on the recliner chair rather than go to bed and wake up at midnight! :)
Lilith had returned with zero in her class performance as you would expect.
While Lilith was napping, dorm mates sat on the couch and did some group research - and when I woke her at 7pm and checked if there was a skill point required for the new term, class performance was already starting to fill up! :)

I don't know if this is the case anymore with vacations and outdoors, but in the old days if your sim slept with no roof while pregnant, the child was born with elf ears.
rather, when the baby grows into a child. I think also if the baby sleeps with no roof.

My sim just tried courting a waitress from downtown. So here's another thing: The only way to get her to come over and therefore have any sort of interaction other than talk, entertain, flirt-check sim out or tip, is to throw a party. She will then be available to invite as a guest. You can invite just her. Slotting her into 'groups' on the phone doesn't work, it'll put her in but when inviting that group, it'll say they're out, busy or doesn't have a phone. She also will not appear in the phone book to call, even with the OFB business reward of the big phone book. I remember this is also necessary to invite the mail carrier over.

I've never noticed that before. Learning while they nap. Awesome!

I've discovered the same with various service Sims. It's plum near impossible to date them because they are always busy. It's easier just to stick with townies.
For elf ears, there is a random chance you will have a baby born with them if you are having a baby with a Sim using certain face templates (besides the obvious one with the elf ears). I don't remember which ones though.

2 of the face templates are broken and are missing data for all but YA and Adult. When they are other ages, they'll show up as one of two other face templates, the elf ear face template being one of them.

As for the NPC's, EA broke being able to invite them over via anything but a party when FreeTime was released and they never fixed the issue.

I don't remember it being different before Free Time. My legacy family back then only married NPC's, particularly service sims, and had to throw the party to get them to come over. Before Free Time, and definitely during the time that the old BBS was broken and the only people able to upload stories were with base game only and no patch, so my friend and I played with base game only and no patch, that is when I wrote Lateral Legacy. Free Time was an available expansion pack at that time but I didn't install it because of the broken BBS situation, and my legacy family played without it. Having to throw a party to get some of those NPC's to come over.

How did you figure that out? About the Caliente sisters setting Bella up I mean. She is weird walking around Strangetown, she just walks away if I try to be friendly to her.

It wasn't broken with the base game because I know my Sims with some EP's were able to invite over NPC's or at least call them. Based on thread posts that were posted back in the time Sims 2 was more active it was a FT bug. The thread on MTS was made prior to Apartment Life having been created so there's less chance of faulty memory of when a bug came up, especially for one related to FT.

There are even mods created by very reputable mod creators the fact that it came with FreeTime. Most notably Cyjon's mod called Call NPCs: http://cyjon.net/node/165

There is a FT bug that prevents players from being able to call NPC's that was never fixed and requires mods to fix.

The Caliente sisters are involved with Don Lothario and Mortimer Goth. Dina is a fortune Sim and wants to marry a rich Sim.
She was married to Bella's brother (who has died) and had an affair with Don while hubby was still alive.
The last place Bella was seen was Don's roof deck and Don's memories show he tried to be romantic with Bella.
The Caliente sisters have aliens in their family tree.
So maybe they were peeved about Don's interest in Bella (and Mortimer was a good conquest for the gold digging Dina), so they somehow arranged for her to be abducted through relatives. The telescope Bella is using in the pictures does not normally allow a player to be abducted.
The craft then crashed in Strangetown, leaving Bella to wander Strangetown with no memories and the Calientes were free to pursue Don and Mortimer.

I don't find it too much of a drama, and adds a bit of spice, challenge, to have to throw the party, so I'll just leave it like that.
@Scarlett2k if you have OFB, and your sim gets the business perk of the big phone book, you might be able to call her.

    @DivinylsFan and @lisamwitt
It's a bit weird when your Sim has met a Sim (service or otherwise) and if you try to phone them, they don't appear on the list of contacts! ;)
The only option I have found to befriend that Sim, is for my Sim to call transportation on the phone and invite them to a Community Lot. At the lot, the Sim could start an outing or a date.
Even after befriending them, this Sim does not appear on contact lists unless they become a playable Sim by moving them into a household.
  • DivinylsFanDivinylsFan Posts: 1,215 Member
I reckon that's the point in befriending a sim like that anyway, to move them in or marry, but that's me.
While I'm here, do you know if there is anything like in the buy or build catalogue that deters witches from being on the lot, especially preventing them from casting those annoying lot spells? Not interested in any mod for it.
I remember you from university, I still have your story.
  • LadysimPlayer8LadysimPlayer8 Posts: 775 Member
    Not to my knowledge.
I haven't had any of my Sims become a witch maybe then, there is a spell that can be cast to prevent this?
When a witch shows up on a lot, asap I try and have a Sim greet, talk etc to her to prevent her from casting the terrible boil and brimstone spell! :)
When it is the good witch, I let her cast her spell to clear up vermin etc and then greet and chat.
