I'm not even sure why the poster felt the need to emphasize the word France at all. Simply stating that the company was located in France would have been enough, wouldn't it?

Because they wanted to make sure that people understand where the company was located at. I like to emphasis on things to but I will use the bold text and underlining to get my point across to others. But it still wasn't considered yelling since the whole sentence or paragraph wasn't done in all upper case letters

Because someone had posted that Ubisoft is a Canadian company, and that was why it would be exempted to respect US laws. Second part was so unbelievable that it needed no comment at all, and I felt it was necessary to emphasis that it's a French company, and not a Canadian one...

By the way, I'm somewhat oldschool, and I don't know the BB code by heart...

So I made a mistake on the country of origin easily made considering how many offices they have in Canada. I also worked for the US government and said they are exempted within reason meaning they are given certain provisions learn the difference.
The reasons why are for the same reasons that are given for DRM which has proven to be meaningless since it doesn't really stop what it's supposed too. Incidentally the same provisions are given to US companies in foreign countries for their Trademarked products as well.

You are making a melting pot with a lot of things that don't exactly fit together... I'll repeat what I repplied to someone else talking about DRM in another thread here... If you see something you are interrested in in a magazine, call the Thailand base company manufacturing that gizmo, buy one such item and have shipped to you, then this transaction is covered by Thai laws, not US laws. Traditionnally, internationnal transactions placed remotely are considered to be taking place at the location of the solicited party. In the above example, if, instead, that Thai company would call you (usually at dinner time) to try to sell you something, then it would be covered. Not so long ago, very very few such international transaction were taking place, and it was not causing much problems. Internet changed that. So, if you purchase something over the net, the DRMs (solicited party) claim the transaction is taking place whereever they are. Problem is, de facto, they spam gamers with advertising so bad that one could easily argue that the average gamer is the solicited party, so that is why DRMs now try to abid laws they feel they are not exactly bound to. That's more or less a fairly long lawsuit waiting to happen... But, if you go old school, head to your local shop, purchase a game, and then register the code into your DRM, everything is 100% Under your local laws, no matter what other provision the DRM is quoting.

This said, no matter the country you're in, there are tons and tons of treaties regarding Intellectual Property; they more or less all say the same; and the only exception being the lenghts of the rights being owned after the publication of the items.

So, about what you said, if you buy a Ubisoft game at Walmart, register it, and play it, forget about French laws. If you purchase and install a game from them through their DRM, something go wrong, and you are turned down by their Customer service, bad news, they could insist on a clause that all lawsuit against them must be taking place in France, and the only thing you could do about it would be to hire a French lawyer, just as if you had bought some French cookware by calling long distance a French company in Marseille or Paris, have it ship to you, and then having to sue them because the set was faulty...

How can we fight a war if we can't find the soldiers in other regiments?
    I voted for you, Kevin.

Well the longer I patiently and sweetly wait to be treated like a well respected and appreciated client - the more EA makes me feel like a TOTAL TOOL! Well done. You are actually good at something EA - no effort required on your part!

I can't say here what is in my brain at the moment because it would most likely be considered "casting aspersions" which is against the rules. So I'll just say welcome to "our world"! :D

Lol I heard "casting aspersions" on a tv show. The woman said "I don't mean to cast any on you" he said "it's too late I got aspersions all over me and what not" XD

Is the store working now btw? A few weeks ago I couldn't buy simpoints or anything. I guess it gets even more buggy because I have the website in english but need to switch to norwegian for the store to work, etc. But as of last time, nothing worked. I logged in to get more simpoints, but nothing happens/I cant log in etc. So annoying!

And while we're on about the store - are there no big sales coming soon? Seriously... not only has it not worked in ages, but the prices are still jacked up. I also wish they'd separate some of the sets, so you could choose the extras and all that.

If this is a general Origin problem for ANY Origin title that you have, then I suggest you go to the Origin help page on the web here and call them or start a chat. I suggest calling since you get a quicker response these days. If the problem is unique to The Sims 3, then try messaging SimGuruDrake directly. She is pretty good about resolving account issues. If she can't do it then she'll probably direct you to someone who can.

I have been saying for a long time that investing cash money in the store is a risky investment unless you have a strong and steady connection and make your store purchases in a relatively short time. I own most of the store thanks to the ads, which are/were generous on my Mac most of the time. (As long as the store was up, which is most of the time for me here in the northeast US.)

I am also a strong proponent for keeping backup copies of your store content download files for the inevitable day when the store does close. No game has an infinite support life, and there is no reason to think that they will unlock the content for general distribution just because they stop selling it.

BTW, hello everyone. I've been Simming since the beginning. I've tried TS4, but still playing TS3 almost exclusively. I own most of the store content, and as mentioned in my previous comment, I've paid little cash money for most of it thanks to the ads, gifts from generous other Simmers, and the help over on the Daily Deal thread, which is where I call home on this forum. I was just looking for a new place to chat about gameplay and stumbled into here. Since store issues are something I care about I figured I'd chime in (leaving the DRM issues alone.)
