I tried to start the launcher just now, but got this pop-up:
It says:
Sims3Launcher stopped working
A problem has occurred and the program won't work properly anymore.
The program will be closed and a noticification will appear when a solution is available.
Close program
Does anyone know what's the matter? I opened the game a couple of days ago without a problem and haven't touched any files since then.
I restarted my computer but that didn't help.
go to document\electronic arts\sims 3\dc cache and delete the missingdeps.idx
it works for me just fine
sims 3 plays normal after that (with cc and downs)
@TreyNutz Yes, I do have Windows 10, I'll go and have a look immediately (my topic was moved here, I never come here by myself I'm afraid). Thank you so much. I found a way just now (thanks to @HappySimmer3 ) to play without that launcher, so I'm not as desperate anymore as I was
Ouch. That looks like some really weird virus, lol. I'd just reinstall.
That is not correct. It's a "bad" Windows Update for Win 10 that was released on Dec 29 that is causing the issue as has already been stated. The fix is to remove the Win Update in question and keep it off until MS fixes it.

I didn't update to 10 yet, but ever since they combined my Sims3 EP/SP on Origin they got rid of my Launcher and when I click on the Sims3 icon now just the sign in for Origin pops up for me to sign into it. How do I get my Launcher back so I don't have to sign into Origin? Thank you and sorry for hijacking the thread.

You can only go back to the 1.67 patch if you have the old base game issued before 2012 on disc. If you have this original disc that did not require origin prior to the 1.69 patch follow below
Go into origin at desktop and make sure you have the sims 3 not to update checked off
Move your sims 3 folder from documents to desktop . Uninstall the base game, Use ccleaner to clean your computer registry, reinstall the base game and manually patch to 1.67. You can then remove the new sims3 folder in documents and replace it with the sims 3 folder you put to desktop

What or who is MS? I mean, lies the mistake at Windows 10, or is it just a problem with Sims 3 you think?
MS = Microsoft. The KB article associated with the flawed update acknowledges the problem with that one as it relates to "some programs will crash" and Win 10. Usually that means a retraction and a fixed version will be produced and made available eventually through the Windows Update system.

anything on windows 8.1? I have a person with similar problem on 8.1. They have been playing for 2 years and suddenly they cant open their launcher. No "Bad" saves. They cant start a new game. told them to reset game and if not waiting on dxdiag
The Win update does have a Wn 8.1 version, but the KB doesn't mention any issues with that. I haven't seen anyone on 8.1 come forward and say that the Dec 29 update was causing a similar problem for them, could be the case but sounds like it might be something else.

Ill work on it. I have windows 8.1 and will check the game later and report back
Not meaning to bash Win 8.1 or 10 really, but those of us still on Win 7 seem to able to continue on in a state of happy denial of such things...just the luck of the draw this time, though.

My windows 8 is up to date and my game started. Im also on the 1.67 patch not 1.69 .Dont know if there is conflict with the windows update and 1.69 patch

I had my Launcher even after this update, it was only recently, when they combined all my games on Origin, that I don't have a Launcher anymore. If I do the above, wouldn't it erase my already saved game?

If you copy your save and paste it somewhere safe (like your desktop) nothing can happen to it. I made a Sims 3 file in Documents where I save copies of everything I don't want to lose.

the root cause was a bad update from Adobe, so in theory anyone that installed the Adobe December 28, 2015 flash player 20 update would be affected by the bug that would cause the sims 3 launcher to crash.
I would presume it would be the same case for all users that are running Windows with Flash player 20 (with the dec 28 update)
Windows 7 and older operating systems you get the update from Adobe
Windows 8/8.1/10 the update is supplied by Microsoft.

That helped some people apparently, unfortunately not me. I still get the same pop-up.
ETA: I'm going to be a bit brazen and cry out for personal help here ( @igazor ), because I really have no idea what to do.
Oh, a Win 10 update launcher breakage. Guess I'm not need here...retreats sheepishly.
