You got that right. You can do the same with the other lots. Just install them in that new folder and copy over the library files that are added into your renamed earlier sims 3 folder (which you'll change back to your sims 3 folder after renaming or deleting the one you used to create the library files)
OH, no @ZeeGee! That is terrible! What caused your external drive to crash?
I don’t know! First it got really sluggish and now it just won’t open. When connected it showed there’s something on the E drive but the folder goes unresponsive when I try to open and the Seagate name is no longer there. I’m going to take it to staples when I get a chance and see if anything is salvageable.
@ZeeGee - I hope they can salvage some, if not all, of the data for you. Maybe the drive was just old?
It was a refurbished one that Seagate gave me about 2 years ago to replace a new, under warranty one that crashed and burned. I argued with them that I didn’t want refurbished. I usually have a cloud backup too but have been traveling so didn’t.
The moral of that story? Don’t buy Seagate backup drives
@ZeeGee - Ouch! I always thought of Seagate drives as good ones too! That really doesn't seem right that a refurbished drive replaced a new one. I'm sure all businesses try to cut corners as much as possible, and that might be the standard policy any more. Yeah, the bottom line with all computers is generally a daily/nightly backup.
WD Passports have some major problems with the software playing nice with Windows 10 right now if you are going to use WD Backup.
Everything seems to be working with my Fresh Install but I notice all the work I had done with SimPort for the Stamps has been reset. I haven't deleted my original The Sims folder though. Where do I find the files to transfer the SimPort progression?

Crin has info on the files required for this and said they should be backed up:
Folder with very long number (Introduced with Patch 1.31)
This folder contains two files PassportData.package and ChallengeData.package:
* PassportData holds information about your SimPort progress which you loose all if you delete the file.
* ChallengeData holds information about your achievements. All completed achievements that were awarded with badges are also saved on the EA server but things you’ve started (like jogging a certain distance) is saved in this file.
You should keep a backup of this folder

@ciane I didn’t know you weren’t supposed to leave them plugged in! Mine stayed plugged in most of the time. Well it’s all gone, all my video footage. I’ll try to do a simplified version when I get time.
A tip for those of you who are like me and have an old computer that you already have the store installed on and you are now installing the store into a new computer. Go to your old computer and take a picture or make a list of the promo, individual, limited edition Items ( Another words all the items where you have some but missed out on others.) Because it is a lot easier to go through that list to see if you have it than it is to go through your purchase history several times just to realize you can’t get that item!
Here are some more links I got on my iPad so it will be easier to download on my computer. For those who are using these as well I got my sims 3 after sims 4 came out so I am missing a lot of items . Also Some I just could not find so you will still want to check if you have anything else not on this list. Also some items I could only find in my purchase history those I wrote down the page and settings they will be different for anyone else. I hope this will still be of help to others as well as me thanks!

I have a question about duplicates. Some of these compilation sets on the list will produce duplicates right? Is that okay? Is it okay to have EBC files with the same item?
Edit: I also want to know if my files sizes are ok? 2 of the EBC files are slightly over 204kb:
One is 204,150 KB and the other is 204,519 KB
Is that okay?

Yes, your file sizes are all okay! 200MB is actually 204,800kb. Files should work correctly if under 204,800 kb. Anything over that, and something or some things might not load. It's best NOT to go over. That is why I recommend saving your .ebc file as it gets close to 200MB. Then, if you go over, you can delete the .ebc file that went over and revert back to the saved one. If you keep track of everything that is installed in the .ebc files, you could reinstall them minus whatever file(s) pushed them over. Then install those extra items in any .ebc files that have extra room, making sure to back them up first.
Fortunately you stayed under the magic number! Congrats!
On compilation dups - if you followed my spreadsheet, you should have avoided any dups. Dups will not hurt anything my themselves. They may just make load time slower and add to general game bloat. Not having duplicates means that your file size will be just a little bit smaller,

Okay good to know! I'm glad.
I am about to start on the compilation sets now. I did move one or 2 things around when installing as I may not have had something (an item really) that you had. But I well work with whatever may be missing, and keep track of everything and back up everything.
Thank you ciane! *hugs*

I have question about the spreadsheet. On number 11 you list a set called "SciFiLiv". Is that the Futureshock Living Set?
I just wanted to check, as I don't want to install the wrong one. I looked at 'cS' tab and saw "SciFiFutLiv" and the link was the Futureshock Living set but I wasn't completely sure that they were the same.

Yes, some items have completely different names after you have downloaded them than they have in the store, so if you had then already on your computer, that is the name you'd see. I thought it best to use the actual file name, but as you see, the other more common name is included too. I think I tried to cover both bases.
I have just come across this thread where @Goodywood mentions the size of ebc files in the DCcache folder so went off to check mine which are measured in GB on windows 10 so from you saying 200MB is a kind of limit? I tried to calculate BG to MB and my folder is 9.3GB so that means I have 9,300MB surely that cannot be right. I own the store and everything in it and have a little CC in my game but it appears I am almost 4 times over your 200MB limit..As I am just starting to try and get more clued up about folders and what I can do to help my game so I could have got something wrong somewhere lol
It's not the folder that must stay under 200MB (which is 204,800kb). But, it is each individual .ebc file within the dccache folder that needs to stay under that limit. More than that in a file means that some of the items in the file won't show up as options in your game. For instance, have you ever searched over and over for one special piece of deco, but it just could not be found? If yes, then you have too many items in the .ebc file that contains that item, and the item you were searching for just couldn't show up. (The launcher works the same way. At some point, it just can not show you any more items. It's too full. You still have the items installed, but you can't find them in the launcher... and sometimes not in your game either.)
In an effort to help items load, you'll get duplicate files that show up in your dccache folder as .tmp files. The logic behind them is that maybe if your item didn't load the first time, it'll load a second time. That reasoning tends to make your game have to work much harder because it has to load more initially and save all the extra files.
The only way I know to prevent this... is to start at the beginning with a fresh install, which everyone hates, I know! I do too! But, once done, items won't randomly disappear on you. If you know how much an item costs and the category in which it is found, then it's there!
So, 9.3 gigabytes is the dccache folder size. Within that folder, you have many .ebc files and .dbc files. The .ebc files are store items. The .dbc files are for custom content.
If I were you, I'd rename your current sims 3 folder and let a new one spawn on reload of a fresh game. Then, install the files in a logical manner one .ebc file at a time and watch the size to stay under the 200MB or 204,800kb which is the file sizes displayed when you look at the files in the dccache folder. Every time you are close to reaching or going over 200MB, make a copy of that file (in case you go over when you install the next item). (That saves you from reinstalling everything in that file again.)
When one file gets large enough, move it to a safe location and install more. You'll always be installing into a file ending with zero. When you finish a file, the first stays at zero, but each consecutive file needs you to renumber the zero at the end to the next number in sequence. I have just over two dozen .ebc files. My cc goes into the mods folder. That makes it so much easier for me to keep a clean game running.
If I didn't explain this well, ask me more questions and I'll try to be more specific with my help.

Ciane already explained above, but yeah it is the .ebc file itself that has to stay under that limit.
Okay back to working on my downloads. I should be finished in 3 days!

I tried moving out the ebc files into a seperate folder from the dccache folder and it still says 9.3GB so I added up every ebc file singularly and it came to 5132MB which again if these files only relate to my store content there does not appear to be a way to use all our store content at the same time if it has to be 200MB max? I am happy to start a new folder and all add all my store content back to check again how many MB it is but if it defo going to be more than 200MB I suppose I will take my chances as I don't want to do without all of my store content. I will have to go back and look at all your information in its entirety again as although I tried to read over it once before I confess to finding it a little confusing.
I am in the process of making a list from various sources of information to try and get my game to become less bloated but some of this I have never tried before. I have all my store simpak files backed up plus the library files for the venues and other store content and normally just reinstall all of these when i start a new folder and thought this was the way to go until I read some info on bloated ebc files and ended up on this thread so we are probably at cross purposes because of my lack of understanding here so i will come back when i have further understanding of this subject lol
@SPARKY1922 - your dccache FOLDER can be 9.3GB, which is probably because of your cc. Mine is only 6.xGB. You can use all your store content, and even your cc, in game. The secret is to install the items in small enough batches to keep each .ebc file under 20MB. As I mentioned before, you'll probably have 25 .ebc files when you finish reinstalling.
If you do plan to reinstall your store content, look at my spreadsheet. It lists every single item (in abbreviated form) and the way I grouped them together. I have tabs for items separated by type and you can look at how big each world, compilation, set, venue, and item file would be. Just note that the .ebc file sizes do vary a bit by system and even the order in which you install them. (For example, I tried to put three particular worlds into the same .ebc file. If installed with largest-sized world first, the file size was different than if I installed with the largest-sized world last.) My spreadsheet shows exactly how I installed, what item and in what order, to get my file sizes all close to 204,800kb without going over. If you follow that, you'll have all the links to make installing easier (except for the items I don't have and we couldn't find links for). For anything you have that isn't linked, you'll have to search your purchase history.
I, also, think the cc works better if you put it in the mods folder and thus save the launcher the extra work. I THINK you can install your cc through the launcher one set or one item at a time if only the .sims3pack option is available. Then, you'd rename the file(s) that ends up in the dcbackup folder and move that to the mods/packages file. Then delete the .dbc file from the dccache folder and install the next cc item. (It's easier if the creator already has a .package file option for you to unpack and place in the mods/package folder in whatever sub-folder you want to keep your cc organized. For example, I have NRaas mods in their own sub-folder, mods that make items recolorable or slideable in others, mods that fix what I think of as irritants such as not being able to have a conversation because the ground is sloped in another folder. I have more folders for hairs by Wojtek, EA windows that are centered on two walls instead of one, etc.) Many people then merge their cc .package files together much like the dccache .ebc files are merged, condensed files of several items. This makes the game file smaller in size and more efficient. However, you can have your cc installed through the launcher, if you prefer. It just means more files for the launcher to have to deal with.
Hello everyone I would like to thank everyone for sharing their knowledge with other players. If it wasn't for dedicated people, many of us players would probably have given up on this game by now.
A few months ago, I used ciane's method to install the store. I followed as closely as I could because I don't own the promo/L.E. stuff.
I don't get to play much, but recently I noticed some duplicate CAS items. I think maybe a bald hair style and an outfit so far. One item has the store "shopping bag" icon on the thumbnail, and the other identical item doesn't have any icon.
I was just curious if anyone else has seen this, or maybe it means an item didn't install correctly. Thank you for any insight.
You may have downloaded a sim or retained a sim you copied in from an older folder? Sometimes store stuff will display with the cc icon for some weird reason. I think it happens when I install from store content I already have archived on my computer rather than directly from the store. I happens with venues a lot.
Hi @ciane thank you for your answer. I'm not sure this is my issue. I haven't downloaded or copied any sims. After I installed everything, I moved my user folder to a safe place. Then I copied this folder (before being played) back to documents. It was my first time playing with everything installed, I was just kinda testing things out. I'm not too bothered by it.
Maybe a store item (like the bald hair for elders) was later added in a patch, EP, or SP and maybe your clothing is a slightly different like a recolor. There are some sets that include "new" clothes options that are the same items you might already have with different overlays.

Cian's reinstalling store thread http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/866577/how-to-install-store-items/p1
Edit: I also want to know if my files sizes are ok? 2 of the EBC files are slightly over 204kb:
One is 204,150 KB and the other is 204,519 KB
Is that okay?
