Sims 4 cc Package files assigned to open with 7zip..now cc will not download :(

I am not sure what happened but my cc package files are assigned to open with 7zip. So when I download a sims4 cc package file, it downloads and then a window pops up and says that the file cannot be supported :(. I haven't downloaded any cc for sims 4 in while and it has always been fine before. I have no idea what to do :( my cc in my game is fine, it's just the new downloads. I have windows 10 for reference.

Not all CC need 7-zip. Sometimes the .package file downloads without being zipped. You cannot open a .package file. You need to cut and paste it from downloads to your Mods folder and it should be fine.

nooo that's not what I mean. I know how to add cc package files to the mod folder. I am saying that all package files are assigned to open with the 7zip program. So when I download cc, it says there is an issue with the file, so I can't even use it.

Is it actually PACKAGE files that you are trying to open? If so, you in fact do not know how to add cc package files to the mod folder. Package files don't open with anything, because they are not meant to be opened by the average user, so your computer will often times just guess and pick a program that it thinks would be a good idea. In reality, you do not have to open package files at all - you just put them into the Mods folder and you're done. Whatever program your computer wants to open them with means absolutely nothing, since you don't actually have to open them. The game will still read them regardless of what your computer thinks needs to open them.

Windows 10 here, too. What I recommend is downloading S4S package editor (easier *more user-friendly* than S4PE, IMO), the link to S4S website is in my sig. Sugar Beta 2.6.11 is current.

Once you have it installed, right click on any .package file, and choose Properties from the bottom. You'll see a screen like in the picture, I'm guessing yours will say Opens with 7zip where mine says Opens with S4S. Click that Change button, and you should be able to select S4S from the list that comes up. Hit Apply, and that should set it for you.


Edit: Current S4S version info and downloads will always be available HERE. They're back up to providing both a Community Tested and a Beta version, so my best advice would be to go to this page and decide there which version you want to use.

I had another thought. If it's an issue when you're downloading an unzipped .package file (I run into this on Mediafire a lot), in Chrome when you click on the downloads in the bar at the bottom of the screen, it does try to open the package file. (Not a huge problem with S4S installed, but, not what I had in mind at the time, either.)

The way I get around it is, in the File window that opens there, on the left side of the top text/address bar, click that up arrow to put you back into your /Downloads folder. From THERE, you should be able to copy the package file over to /Mods.

You might try the Mac Forum. I don't speak Mac, but some people in my MC help thread have them, I've asked for help here. Good luck!

And if you'd add to this thread with what works (surely something will) so other people get both "flavors" of help, that would be wonderful.

These links explain about installing cc and mods. Installing cc/mods on Mac is similar to installing on a PC. The mods/cc all go into your mods folder which is in Documents-electronic arts-sims 4 folder -then the mods folder is there.

Do you mean to say you have a similar issue with the .package file type being associated weirdly? If yes then see http://osxdaily.com/2013/08/08/change-default-application-open-files-mac-os-x/ (or any other of the ten million search results for "os x file type association").

The game does not care either way though. That info is just for the OS to know what to *open* a package with, but you would only need to do that when you plan to actually modify it. There is no reason at all to download any CC tools if all you want is change the file type association, neither for OS X nor for Windows .. simply associate .package with the game and you're good to go (you could also just ignore the wrong icon, but I guess it can become confusing when it's a file type you often use).
