Households Vanished - Please Help

I play The Sims 3 and all expansions except for WA on my HP laptop and they have ran fine (excepting the occasional and more common glitches) until now.
I have a save file for my legacy that is currently on its 3rd generation in Starlight Shores. I played this file yesterday and it ran fine. I opened it up today and the world was empty. Every house had no family in it, including my legacy household. Every lot I had built was still intact as well as all of the others in the world, there are just no sims.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
