Gimp 2.8 !!!

I am trying to learn how to use Gimp 2.8. I am trying to learn how to do simple recolors of objects in the Sims 4 Game. I pretty much know what to do with the Sims 4 Studio, and have watched a lot of videos on You Tube on Gimp 2.8. Most of my questions were answered, except a very basic question ! , after exporting my image from the Sims 4 Studio to Gimp 2.8, how do I open it so I can recolor it ??? This is the question that I can't find the answer to. I have watched all the tutorials on You Tube, and no one would answer this question. I am a visual learner, and you think I could find the answer?? NOOOOOO !!!! Can Someone help me please ??? Thank you !!!!!

In gimp, press file - then press open- then navigate on the left hand side to where you saved the exported file. Then click open.

You will need the plugin for gimp that make it read dds-files.
