Never played sims 1. Should I get it?
    TS1 doesn't run on win10
you have to use a hack to make it playable

    other than that
if you like pixelated games then it's a must
if you prefer smoother graphics over unique gameplay, then stay with the newer games
if you dislike hard games to play, stay away from TS1, it's the hardest to play sims game

The Sims 1 runs fine on my Win10 laptop, no hack needed. How is TS1 hard???

Keeping your Sims happy is much harder on Sims 1 than on any of the later Sims games. In Sims 2, you can use the phone to build relationships and socialize with other Sims. In Sims 1, sometimes other Sims don't want to talk with you during the day or visit with you, resulting in low social need if you didn't take full advantage of the welcoming party and you are playing with only 1 Sim. Sim relationships also deteriorate much faster. The AI of Sims 1 is also much more primitive, so Sims do not automatically fill the lowest needs - they are known for autonomously picking Fun over Hunger when Hunger is lower, for instance. Burglars can also steal important objects in Sims 1 - like the refrigerator or stove. Not that the stove is a big loss if you have Sims with low cooking skill. Fire also spreads much faster in Sims 1, and the fastest game speed is much faster in Sims 1 - part of this is the processor speed of modern computers vs. the computers that Sims 1 was designed on and for. Finally, there is the Evil Genie, and I will leave this to your imagination.

I finally found my Disk 1 of Sims Complete Collection and successfully installed the game on my Windows 10 machine today.

There are so many details, so many interactive objects, even so many objects that created unique game play, that you just don't find with Sims 4, at least not to date. I missed the Santa interaction with the tree and plate of cookies from Sims 1. I also missed the roller coaster tracks, and the rest of the Makin Magic objects. Sims 4 City Living adds back the karaoke stage from Sims 1 Superstar, and Sims 4 Spa Day added back the mud baths from Sims 1 Superstar, but they don't have the steam bath object, the operating table or fencing from Sims 1 Superstar, nor celebrity clothing. They also don't have pre-made bathroom stalls as were added just prior to Sims 1 House Party coming out. (If they do add those to Sims 4, maybe they could add a "Ask for TP" interaction to adjacent stalls? That would be something no previous game has done.) I also missed the snowy vacation lots and beach vacation lots and beach volleyball and carnival games with tickets from Sims 1 Vacation. I also wouldn't mind
seeing the comeback of casino related objects/venues. Vending machines still haven't made a comeback in Sims 4 yet either, unless you count the get to work fridge. I would like to see a modder mod that to maybe make a soda machine. (EA should have an even easier time of it, should they be so inclined.) A companion snack machine selling chips and candy bars and granola bars and cups of ramen would also be welcomed. (Preferably with non-nauseating candy bars, unlike Sims 3 University, unless perhaps the Sim has a trait of Dislikes Sweets or Foodie (so few candy bars out there are "Inspired"). There could also be an opposite trait of "Sweet Tooth".)

I do miss the ability to keep up social needs more easily with later games when playing Sims 1, and I miss the graphics of later games when playing Sims 1. For me, the Sims 1 and Sims 2 personality scale with 5 traits on a sliding scale, vs. 3 customizable traits (Sims 4) with reward traits and emotional buffs or 5 customizable traits (Sims 3) plus reward traits is a tossup.

Ohh, I so badly miss the sound effects in Sims 1! The brash, annoyingly loud horn that blows when somebody's caught cheating still bounces around in my head if I see it in another version of the game. Same with the first kiss swell.

I think that TS was more.. darkly comical. It felt like the game was aimed more at teenagers and adults than children, like TS3/4.

Aw man, now I've got the urge to go find my copy again! :p

I have been playing The Sims 1 lately, and I have found it much more enjoyable than The Sims 4.
I'm happy that the sims actually react to cheating. If one sim cheats on the other, their partner will slap that sim. Meanwhile in The Sims 4, my sims don't react. If a sim dies the sims will react too. Plus I have terrain tools so I can change the terrain of my sims house. Plus my sims get to use dishwashers! and my sims actually get into a car to go to work instead of vanishing into oblivion! My sims can also call the police, firefighter or repairman if they are in trouble instead of having to sort it out themselves.

Does anyone remember these creepy phone calls too?
