Can you sell ANYTHING you make?

So I was thinking about my Sims who might like to get abducted but aren't interested in the scientist career (to make the satellite dish). Could I have a scientist who opened a retail store and sold satellite dishes? Has anyone tried this? I haven't tried any of the retail stuff yet, but if this is doable I might have to, for the sake of my other Sims.
