Game crashes often when I try to save it

I swear, I fix one problem and another pops up. I can't save the game more than once or twice in a row without it crashing and losing all the game play between crashes.

Hello.
If you have any CC or mods, remove them and see if that helps the issue. They may be conflicting with the game.
Repairing the game may help. To do that, right click on the sims 4 picture in Origin and click repair.
Also, deleting the localthumbcache.package that is in your Documents-Electronic Arts-Sims 4 folder may help.
Also, if there is a large amount of items in your sims inventories, reduce the number of items in them because sometimes that can cause problems.
If none of these help, try lowering your graphics settings and see if that helps.

Thank you so much rosemow I did the first two suggestions already and it did no go. What sometimes works is deleting the saves and caches files while in game then saving. But not all the time. But I didn't delete the localthumcahce one.

I have TONS of items in my inventory and I had a previous problem that the game would crash whenever a sim would die. Clearing out the inventories fixed that problem so now I think that might fix this one. I will try that one right away.

Noooooo! not the graphics! LOL. I have them maxed out and it wasn't a problem until recently so I hope thats not a problem.

Oh, I failed to mention I am using the fullhouse mod and am running 16 sims in my house right now. In hindsite I seemed to be ok up to about 13 sims and the problem got bad a bit after I added two sims from another lot. I deleted 3 of the sims as a test last night but is still crashed.

Ok, I just tried deleting the items from my sims inventory and of course, I ran into a problem. The 4 older Sims, 3 of which are elders, won't allow me to sell anything in their inventories. And I am sure you realize the 4 oldest sims HAVE THE MOST in their inventories. When I pull the items to the sell icon, it says can not be deleted or sold. Yet on the younger sims, the same items can be. The garbage fruit is a prime example. I have near 200 garbage fruit on the 4 oldest sims and 100+ on the 5th sim. None of these garbage fruits can I sell or delete.

Is there away to get rid of these items I can't sell? I mean I can drag them 1 at a time to the ground and guess put in my household inventory but that would take forever.

Oh, and while I am at it, do I need to delete/sell the house inventory as well? I hope not as there is a lot of things in there I want and haven't placed.

I have deleted a lot from the other sims but I haven't tried playing the game and saving yet. Hopefully what I did delete was enough. Will check back later.

But you've still got all that stuff stuck in inventory - it could be your problem.

I'm having this problem too *again*. When i try to save there's about an 80% chance it crashes. I don't think it's due to inventories as my family of three sims all have less than 10 items on them and in the joint household inventory. When i first started having the issue those were the first things i cleaned out. I had no problems or bugs doing that.

I'm not sure what's causing it other than saving but it started happening after the last patch. My graphics card had a small update the day after the patch so at first i thought it might be that. But after i rolled back that update i still kept having the issue.

I have had more crashes since Get to Work but nothing major like this. Those crashes have been very random. Crashes while saving tho are a bit of an annoyance.

Have you tried turning down graphics options to see if that helps?

Posting dxdiag would be helpful. That way we could speculate with more information on whether or not it is a computer issue. My old computer started crashing on save (or every 20 minutes or so) when the content from the patches started to overwhelm my rather minimal specs. (Bought a new computer, was planning on it anyway).

Nice rig! Okay, so next question: Are you running other things in the background? If so, you might want to try turning them off. You might also want to put Origin in offline mode.

I tried deleting localthumbcache.package and that didn't work.

Why can't I delete the objects from the older sims and how can I do this? I mean when they die I will have to delete them any way because of the earlier problem that caused. Also, now that I think about it, I deleted the entire 4 older sims inventory and all from the game and it still crashed at the saves. So if the sims weren't even in game, how could it be their inventory?

I am going to try deleting them again and see what happens. I may not have cleared the cache and deleted the saves the last time I deleted them.

I meant to try putting origin in offline mode but got distracted and forgot to try. Will now. This may take a second because it dosn't always do it the first time or two. Not sure if it's game time played related or the number of saves or just random.

Not sure why you're having problems deleting stuff from the elders' inventories. Have you tried just moving some of it out of their inventories and putting it on the ground, then deleting it? Or sometimes inventory items have the option, "Place in world." I've heard of people having problems if they try to move the cursor too fast when they drag the inventory stuff to the "sell" area. Maybe you're too fast? Have also heard of people having trouble if there are more than 99 items in a stack, but I thought a patch fixed that.

I can drag them out of the inventory on the floor but as you mentioned, many of the things have 99+ items and unless I am missing something I can only drag them one at a time. So that would be 99+ times for each stack. Also, Some of the items have less than 99 on the elders and they won't delete either. I thought that maybe I was dragging to fast but I was able to delete them just fine with the other sims.

I had some massive stacks once (99+). I ended up having to drag and delete enough items to get it down to below 99 before I could delete the remaining stack. I did think they'd fixed that, but I haven't had any huge stacks since then and cannot swear to it.

When the elders die, their personal inventory should transfer to a living Sim (which may or may not be a good thing). It would be good if you could figure a way to pare it down a bit, but I'm out of ideas on that one :-/

Thank you so much for all your help I can put them on the floor one at a time and another sim can pick them up and then delete them so I guess I will have to do that. But the elders have stacks of less than 99 that won't delete either for me. But I am waiting to make sure the save issues are working first as I am not really playing it right now and just letting the game run for a bit. I would hate to delete all the items and then the save dosn't take and have to do it all over again. LOL.

Another 3 saves and still no crash.

In the past it would have crashed by now. So looking good.
