I love making my houses and spend hours perfecting them. Then I get to the roofs and I totally suck at them. Anybody have some tips on making a decent looking roof???
I'm awful at it too, in all honesty. I got so frustrated with my roof so I just took one kind of roof design and expanded it over my entire house. As much as I want it to look nice, I really kind of stopped caring because most of the time you can't see the roof anyway - as long as your like doing things in your house.
One tip I have sounds odd but this, if you have a roof that you want cut off at the wall, but it instead bleeds through, delete the ceiling, it's strange I know

You can't treat roofing like an afterthought. If you leave it until the very last thing, it will never ever ever look like it fits in with the building. Think of the whole house from the bottom to the top. Try the exercise I discuss in the earlier post about making a big rectangle with smaller rectangles that stick out from it.
These guys got the tutorials covered! I also recommend looking at images of real houses. You will likely notice they tend to be very simple. You get into trouble when you go for overly complex unless you really know what you are going for. I agree with aquilifer also, try and think of how the roof will be ahead of time. It just takes practice and you can create a lovely roof too! :)

The basic problem is this: You can't treat roofing like an afterthought. If you leave it until the very last thing, it will never ever ever look like it fits in with the building.
