I understand that they can "disguise" themselves in a fake skin and can go to their alien planet. Is that all they can do?

They can also erase a Sim's memory of seeing them. They probably have some other stuff too, but I haven't really read a lot of about them.

I think the ice thing is an invention made in the science lab, but I may be wrong about that.

yeah its the sim ray (can freeze/mind control/and transform objects into gnomes)

In youtube there's an interview with a couple of the dev team guys and I think they said you can abduct people or get abducted...I'm not sure which or if its both though.
