Probably. Also I have no idea what plum day is

It's our day for celebrating sims who have passed on.

I think that was a different celebration, Purple Day.

Plum Day was from 2014, I think, so it might be from before I knew any of you.... Could such a time have existed? It was my first collab, and it was a winter holiday celebration, way before Seasons. My Houseful of Hippies hosted Sims from other stories for a weeklong celebration. I'll find the post that introduces it and share it on the lounge and we can talk about what we might want to do this year.

Well plums are purple except when they're not, but I like the idea of that. Maybe not for taking over your thread :p (sorry!)

Opps... yeah I mistakenly assumed Purple Day is Plum Day too, @InfraGreen. Totally hijacked your thread, @CathyTea. 2014... I was a very new Sims gamer then so before my time in the forums.

Was this the thing where game aware sims go to a convention? No.. that doesn't seem right either.

    I'm excited to see

    Here's today's post! https://cathytea.wordpress.com/2020/12/02/another-legacy-1-7/

I'm kinda happy that I've been able to write this week! I thought that I'd be overworking....

and also, I forgot how happy I am when I'm writing!

@Shadami we should have Antwan Plum be the grand Master of Ceremony for Plum Day!

    OK.... so Plum Day.

Way back in December 2014, we decided to have this collab. Actually.... I think the "we" was me and my Sims! LOL. (If I remember correctly...)

But anyway, whoever "we" were, we decided it would be fun to have a collab during winter break.

A bunch of us were writing Sims 4 Legacies and sharing fun times here on the forums, so I put out a call for people to come to the Celebration, and they sent their Sims and helped me write the chapters.

If any of you followed A Houseful of Hippies, this was an epic beginning to an epic story.... for that's when we met Elder Wolff!

It started some back-and-forth collabs that lead up to S-GAS, which was the Symposium for Game Aware Sims.

If you want to read the posts for it--or even just the first one, to find out what it's about--you can find links to them on my Christmas Stories page, https://cathytea.wordpress.com/christmas-stories/

These ones are down towards the bottom.

It's gonna feel like a different era... I guess, because it was.

By getting back into just playing the game, I am enjoying the old/new and updated stuff I really never looked at before in the game. I’m happy I chose my title Plain ol’ Legacy.

When you do this, I'd like to send over Aspen Beckett from my Introverts Legacy Challenge. I haven't updated her look yet (i.e. oodles of alpha cc) so she's easy to share to the Gallery. You may need to tick the Include CC box because I use MCCC even in my vanilla games. I'll make sure she's uploaded later today. I think she would be a perfect candidate for celebrating Plum Day.

I just read over the Plum Day chapters last night. I think they're kinda boring, actually! LOL! They go like this, "Oh! We're so excited to see you! Oh! You have to leave, how sad! --intersperse weird esoteric stuff I was thinking about at the time -- Make some cookies, rinse and repeat!"

Also, I don't think I'll feel like hosting a bunch of Sims in my game this year... I just got a kalimba and I want to do lots of music over the holidays, so I'll probably not be playing Sims for hours and hours every day (just for hours....)

But I DO think it would be awesome to do a Plum Day celebration! Like maybe a story circle or something?

Let's think of ideas and share them on the lounge.

Awww... I didn't think they were boring chapters. You don't do boring, @CathyTea. At least I never find anything you write boring.

But I can understand not wanting to host something big with a lot of Sims. It sounds like a wonderful idea, but my introverted self is (slightly) cringing at the idea of hosting all sorts of strange (but wonderful) people in my home if I was a Sim. :grimace: Sorry if we got carried away here. and we certainly want to be respectful of your time.

Oooo a kalimba! How cool! I hope you enjoy making beautiful music!

I have a half- finished thought or two about a Plum Day celebration... I might share one in the Lounge once it's more fully formed.

I recall one time I was driving with my mom to Santa Cruz. I was eating a sandwich and I opened my window a crack to shake biodegradable crumbs out (I recall thinking a bird might enjoy them) and my napkin went flying. I think I felt guilty for weeks. 😬

I feel like I get similar looks like Case picking up trash when I pick up things or return extra carts to the cart return in parking lots. It's as if people have no concept of doing the nice or right thing.

My mom is big into recycling and got me into it. She actually started a recycling club on her block when she was just a kid back in the 60's.

Case's consideration for the neighborhood reminds me of a program at my work. We really focus on rallying communities. What are you proud of? What assets do you already have? What resources are naturally there?

Like this one neighborhood we work in - neighbors really look out for neighbors and there's a network of folks doing things for others. People have a sense of pride. Their homes may be small and need repairs, but they own their land and most don't have debt. That's a big thing.

The people in the community of Port Promise show promise and interest in beautifying the place they call home. At least I hope they do and they're not just passerbyers or doing it for celebrity.

@AdamsEve1231 I guess your mom is probably my generation--I was a kid in the 60s, also in Northern California, so she and I probably share a lot of cultural similarities. It was such a rich time to grow up!

I really love the work that you do. That community work is a definite thread of my story.

What are some of the job titles for people that do this type of work?

Case works for a large, multi-national NGO that has lots of local semi-autonomous branches. His official title, I guess, at this stage in the story, is Project Manager, but I'd love to know other titles that I can refer to when he's thinking about his work and the organizational structure.

Yes, I suppose you and my mom are around the same age. I never think about age when it comes to friends. It's just a number. I've always had friends of all ages. When I was 9, I had a pen pal in her 80s, a retired school teacher and sister of friends of my grandparents. She would send me newspaper clippings (she wrote a kids column in Texas during the 90's) and I sent her scribbling and poems. We wrote until I was a freshman in college when she passed away. She was a dear friend.

Oh titles. I don't pay much attention to them. I mean I like the defined space of a title and even the attached importance. The way I can give a socially acceptable response when someone asks what I do for work and I can share the importance of my work through my title. But I'm a bit boxed in by my title because it never quite encompasses all I do.

I work in donor relations and manage communications, public relations, resource development, marketing, and even some volunteerism. And communications is really broad because I do a lot under that banner. My colleague who works with families has the title Neighborhood Manager, but I've also heard Community Manager for the same thing.

There's Resource Development Manager for all sorts of resources (i.e. funding, in kind gifts, physical assets, community leadership training). That's essentially what my boss does (and part of my colleague's team).

Land Acquisition Specialist is its own thing. Someone needs to work to purchase and/ or acquire donated or discounted land for your nonprofit or NGO sites and there's a lot of red tape around that and sometimes years to decades of conversations, connections, and relationship building. That's essentially what my boss's boss does. I'm still learning about all the (thankless) work that entails.

You can always add "specialist" or "director" to the end of pretty much anything i.e. Environmental specialist, Water Quality specialist, Sustainable Systems Specialist, Program Director, Development Director (essentially the CFO of nonprofits), Executive Director (essentially the nonprofit CEO), etc.

You could also employ consultants who are specialists. Or policy analysts to facilitate discussions to educate politicians in power to enact change and represent your cause. We can't lobby in nonprofits but we can advocate.

And I get the word out there about the work we do and all departmental needs, I advise all the departments on how to improve communications flow, plus I help find connections... for donors (both monetary and physical items), potential partners, governments, volunteers, etc. It's exhausting, but rewarding work.

We're in different fields/causes, but I really admire Case for his part. My team works behind the scenes a lot, but boots on the ground is where the real change happens. Grassroots is really exciting. And working for a cause you really believe in requires the long haul but it's beautiful to see positive change occur. Even if you don't see changes for a long time, you're making a difference and the work is never wasted.

Thanks! This is super helpful. I'll be returning to it for reference.
