It means quiet (not loud) and very funny... so it's very, very funny in a quiet way.

For example, I'll read your post, and I might not laugh at the moment, but later on, I'll be doing something, and I'll remember one of your lines, and I will giggle. Only it's not a polite giggle. It's the kind of giggle that at any moment might make me spit my tea out of my nose and cause my office-mate to look at me cross-eyed and say, "Are you ok?" And I feel like dying from hysteria. That's quietly hilarious.

Loved both of your updates. I was particularly struck by the most recent one and left you some thoughts on your blog. Much of my graduate school education was about unlearning the traditional ways of learning that we are taught as children. Very powerful stuff. Thanks for reminding me.

Thanks for commenting, @aroseinbloom ! It was fun to reflect back on early years in my career! Henrietta is having such a blast envisioning how her experience with solitude will translate into service--and she's drawing so much on the work of those who've gone before. I really enjoy writing her stories, and I think the reason I love it most is because I always imagine that I'm the only one reading them, too--that they exist within this little 8x8 grid of imagination populated solely by me! Every writer needs their own quiet 8x8 grid, don't you think?
